We've started a TEFL social network where we are trying to build a community of TEFL teachers around the world to meet and share experiences and tips. If anyone is interested take a look at tefl-me.com. It covers lots of areas and has a blog, forum groups individual profiles and a map to indicate your location in the world to help you meet other TEFL teacher when you are on the other side of the world. We have a group relating to Korea including discussions about first timers in korea & culture.
Teaching English in Korea is not necessarily cool. There is a strong chance you can get screwed over by your employer, and the government won't care. Now, mind you, if you have a good employer like he did, they will pay you every month and on time. You can save a lot of money as he said. It's better to work for a public school. The salary is more like 2.2 million won starting, I would say right now if not more. I have not checked lately.
Hey BodhiOceans thanks for posting this video. I'm heading off to Jeju-do in a month or so to teach and it's great to hear about the experiences that other G.E.T.s have been having.
I'm glad there's no weed there (hate the stuff), it definitely sounds like a nice place to be. How did you find the local level of spoken English? Is it a big barrier to communication or are most people fluent enough to be comprehensible?
hey thanks for the info, sounds like your having a great time. What motorcycle did you get? and how much to buy one there? i've tried to google but i can't find any prices, thanks.
@ihahahayou HAHAHA. Americans his age, like me, most likely won't be able to depend on S.S. anyway by the time we retire because we won't get nearly enough to cover cost of living.
Hey love your videos, I hope to see more! I'm about to finish my degree...I've been looking into teaching in Korea. I was wondering what recruiting agency you used to find your position in Jeju. Thanks!
Hey! I have some questions. I have been looking into going to Korea myself and I have checked out various sites. All the recruiters stated that I needed to have my original degree as part of my documents to go. I believe I only get one copy of my degree when I graduate; therefore, I kind of feel uncomfortable giving that up. What do they do with my degree and will I ever see it again? Would it be possible to just make a photocopy of it to send in instead? I hope the questions make sense. :)
WOW! You are really saving a lot. Anyways, the way I live is maybe dinner once or twice a week. Not too much partying (maybe once a week). I'm considering getting a moped there. Not a $250 a month motorcycle.
But this would be for living in Seoul. I hear it is expensive there? Do know if it would be difficult to save if you're living in Seoul?
I'm considering teaching there but I'm not too sure yet.
With the exchange rate the way it is and with the cost of living. Is it still possible to save $800-1,000 a month if you are making 2,000,000 won a month? Can you really live off of $400-500 a month (living expenses)?
Hey man great video. :) I've been thinking about doing this after I get out of college, but I'm still debating where I want to teach abroad. I originally thought Japan which is the usual choice I'd say for people in general. Uhh. But Jeju Island is a vacation spot, is it still ok living there with all the tourists? Well technically you are "kind of" a tourist lol. But you know what I mean.. Take care, and good luck! :)
you'd hardly ever notice a tourist unless you live near a resort on the south side japan would be fun with the economy now, i'd do some up-to-date research on the money side for example, korea was, by far, the best place to work money-wise but now, with the exchange rate, i don't know another fun resort place would be Okinawa, Japan it's gets cold here in the winter which last 5 months but june-october is Great!
You said your motorcycle was 250 dollars... is that a month or is that how much it cost. Also is it a large motorcycle or a scooter... and what is the deal with lisence and insurance...
a bachalors degree is required in korea, and i think most asian countries besides that it's easy tons of jobs some that pay very well a criminal record doesn't help but mine didn't stop me a drug test for grass which is easy to work out an aids test offical copys of degrees, ect... ...let me know if you want anything else ps. i like your favorites ;)
i found a recruiter J & E Recruiting that only does Jeju Island because this is where i wanted to live he found 3 jobs for me within a few days and i choose one one them and it has really been a good job fyi. i would try to find as much info about the school as you can because some of my friends got shit bosses it does happen... but the flip side is that you can always quit and easy find another job-no problem happy hunting !
ok thanks. i did try to google J & E Recruiting but i can't find their webpage. Could u please provide it for me? I did have an interview today with Seoul but I have no idea if that went well. it was hard to read the guy over the phone.
is their alot of foreigners over there? is it hard to find other foreigners and make friends?
they really should test them teachers for drugs..

1. isn't teaching little kids the worst because they talk all the time, are loud, and are hard to keep control???
greekmonstervt91 3 years ago
i think their the best b/c it's so easy-going...
it's fun (if you like that sort of thing)
not all stressful like english is for older students
and kindergarden is great
because the kids are so sweet & fun
older kids get cool & mean
to generalize
BodhiOceans 3 years ago
what i would recommend is joining the Yahoo Group called "rhymeswithjeju".
then post up something asking about job openings and procede with applying to them.
then, once you have offers, then post again asking about those schools reputations
there's also a facebook group
but everyone uses the yahoo group
this is probably the best way to find a job and find out about school's reputations
good luck
and feel free to ask some more...

Hey I really wanna teach in Jeju, are there any schools in Jeju you recommend?

it was 250 cash done
it's dope !
150cc full power
no papers
ya, i and many foriners
don't have a licence or insurance
(motorcycle insurance is about 200/yr)
(for a moto lic. you need to take a test, i think)
