  • they are not "bad" computers, they just are EXTREMELY overpriced compared to building it yourself LOL!

  • What CPU cooler does it have?

  • This system is amazing. My school has a computer club that has 1 to 2 lan parties a month and someone bothers to lug this beast every time with a big monitor and a bose sound system. The most that I have seen it do is play ghost recon, unreal tournament goty, and itunes. (old games but still fun). The teacher nicknamed it the fridge because of how big it is and how well it handles heat.

  • my 630 will come soon, i hope, this computer looks great, i hope it is good

  • is the 630 nice??

  • Duh!

  • It's great :) But mine's already like a year old..

  • can i put 1 of these in 1 of tre free hard drive space :

Internal hard drive from Seagate, 1TB storage capacity with SATA interface.

Seagate Barracuda 3.5 ", 1TB SATA internal hard drive. 7200 rpm and 16 MB cache.

  • yes

  • 1:09

    178 degrees Celsius?

I find that odd. although my system temp reads out as -65C so i guess its common for that to be a misread temp.

  • I think i will buy it with

    Intel Core Quad Q8200

    nVidia GeForce 9800GT

    4 GB Ram

    500 GB HDD

is it good enough to play crysis on max. settings ?

  • 2GB is not fine if you are using this for CAD. I had 2GB and it ran out of memory all the time. I have 3GB now and haven't had any issues. It's so cheap that you might as well put the max in.

  • People don't buy this system! I have this and I have nothing but problem. You can't even install Windows XP cause you need drivers for SATA/RAID threw floppy drive which isnt even included. There is problems with fans, soundcards and the overclocking is almost impossible cause of the heat generation. And false ad on the site about the Dominator memory modules which "might" not even get included. Yeah like I said. Even if you choose full ram for your system you might not get the high end modules!

  • Lemme guess... noob?

  • I got a new system. But I threw out their homo mobo, replaced the ram. Gonna change again to OCZ Gold 8GB at 1200Mhz. Dell is just nothing but overpriced crap. Trust me. I wouldn't say it if it wasn't true...

  • Not in all aspects. I've seen some of their older ones last me for at least 5 years.

  • Yep. I had a Dell Dimension 5000. Damn that PC served me well! I loved it. But it got older and wasn't upgradeable alot so... unfortunately

  • My dad has a 5150 he's gonna give to me. I'm gonna upgrade it from a 2.8 Ghz PD to probably a C2D or C2Q. And 2 GB of RAM with a 9600.

  • Oki that's gonna be nice. If you can try to find 8800 GS or 9800 GT

  • It's probably gonna be a 9600, though. Budget's kinda tight. Well, the good thing is there's a giant 120 mm fan running at 2.5K RPM. Around 90 CFM, according to Delta. Uses PCI-E and SATA, made in 2006. I think the memory can go up to 4 GB.

  • Okay. That's very do-able. The main reason I regret buying the 630i is cause I don't need a "beast" for a computer. I could have spent those money way better lol

  • Yeah, Especially since the board isn't even by Dell. ONLY the BIOS. In fact, instead of using their own onboard Ethernet, they use an Intel one.

I don't remember the socket on this, but it's one of the ones that will work with the C2x series, and PDC.

  • My XPS 630 Was Just Shipped!

    Specs

Intel 2 Duo 3.0 Ghz Proc.

    Dual GeForce 8800 GT's

    AgeiaPhysx Proc

    4 gigs of ram

    Very HAPPY :D

  • Er, you do know you wasted money on that, right?

Right now, 2 GBs is the sweet spot. Rarely do programs use more than that. In addition, you need a 64-bit OS to use up all 4 GBs.

The PhysX card can only be used with certain programs, and with multi-core CPUs, is becoming obsolete before it was ever mainstream.

You should have taken money from your RAM and PhysX and upgraded your GPU and CPU.

  • actually go look at benchmarks, in 4gb lowers your minimum fps a lot, but not average fps

  • Yeah 2GB is all you need.

  • I just bought a 630 with:

    E8400

    8800GT

    4x1 Dominator's (free with package i used)

    2x250GB (7200.10's FTW!)

    Soundblaster X-FI

    media card reader

    3 year warranty

I got it all for just over $1.2k after the RAM discount, 20% off coupon and 6% AAA membership coupon! What a steal!

You actually could not build a PC with those specs for that cheap (I tried to spec it out on the egg, those dominators are expensive) plus you get a warranty!

  • Yeah sure buddy! I built exactly the same but with 320x2 for 1000$ and with rebate 900$. You'll have a hard time upgrading your parts especially your psu so it isn't a steal.

  • you can upgrade anything in the new xps' (630 and 730). You can upgrade the motherboard, cpu, psu ect. They use ATX now.

  • for those who have no or less money then go build your own sh1t and brag somewhere else stupid loaf.

  • I just bought the Dell XPS 630 Gaming computer with 4 gb ram and 1tb (1000gb) hardrive capacity i will recomend it to anyone! I also got the price down and 5 years free warenty =] also a inkjet photo printer so yes it is all good and ill recommend it 100% xD

  • getting the xps 630 with ageia physx and 4 gigs of ram, win xp pro, kenthurst quad core, 2 x 500 gig drives shit loads of extras at $3500.seems like gamers want a little tooo much from their system???

  • bullshit, can you buy a warranty? Not to mention all those [unnecessary] parts would easily go over $2.5k.

  • ahhh, im with ya brother, I just got mine shipped today. BEST THING I DID IN MY COMPUTER CAREER>

  • this system has a glicth with the ESA as u know its gives wrong temp readings.thats not the only problem with this sytem. U have no control at all over the fans or the led lights and there is no such thing as LightFx 2.0.and the computer sounds like a lawn mower when its running this is becuz for some reason the computer thinks the mobo is at 178C.its been only 3 days since i got this computer and its been nothing but a headache and 2 sleepless night going thru dell forums and support for a fix

  • you control light fx through nvidia control/advanced then select chassis option. this controls the colour display although you cant syncronise with music like on the 720.

its quiet except at startup in my experience.

the 178c is a bug in the nvidia program not the computer. i checked the reading using everest for eg and its fine. obviously it doesnt run that hot or it would melt.

  • theres something even more strange..u get blue screens when ur playing games and the worst part about all this si that sometimes u can't change the colors of the led lights

p.s yes i know where and how to change the led colors thanks..the problem is that the chassis icon seems to disappear on its own..so how do u change the lights then?

  • change the colours to ones you like. soon as you change them the APPLY option shoudl be available at the bottom of the screen. APPLY. then select the profile option on the top menu and save to say "my favourite leds". this should always load.

reading the dell forum it sounds like a lightfx application is coming.

i played assassins creed this w/e on high settings and it was fine. dunno about the blue screens - assume you havent overclocked. chk with dell support.

  • My 630 has ESA CPU temp glitches too. It consistently reads my E8400 at like 60C when it is really barely over 40C.

  • lol 178C was it sitting out in the sahara desery before they plugged it in... lol big a** glitch they had there

  • Interesting.

When this guy runs the Nvidia System Monitor thing it shows the motherboard SYSTEM TEMPERATURE at 178C!

I just got a 630 - love the system - but it shows the exact same motherboard temp. at 178C. Always. Wonder if its a Nvidia bug or a Dell sensor problem. Its obviously not running that hot. Reported it to Dell anyway and we checked the Bios was ok. Dell XPS support is great incidentally - runs 24/7 and seems to have their smartest guys with better english than me.

  • is it upgradable to 8gb of ram?

  • yep

  • The 630 has two fans at the front. It is the same computer as the 720 with the only difference being the motherboard is a 650i instead of a 680i. If there is a second difference it is just the smaller case that is still called large.

  • thats a nice pc, i wish my 720 has the same interior it looks cooler and easyer to upgrade i really like the cpu case, cooler.

    and it's afordable :D

  • Your kidding right? The inside has a bunch of cables clumped together. Also it has only one fan. How does that make it cooler?

Have you even opened up your 720?

Everything is tidy, multiple fans, large interior for cooling and plenty of space for upgrading...

Everything in the 720 is made to be removed and upgradeable fast.

Yes, the 630 is sweet and probably can take most of everything you could put in a 720, but it just screams cramped!

  • it has 2 fans

  • i dont understand dell xps 720 is good but why is the 630 worse. most people r sayng its crap when its feaures r just as good as the 720 or even better. the only thing better with the 720 is the expensive cooling

  • 630 is newer and cheaper than the 720. there isnt any game atm that it wont be able play on high settings.

not crazy about the case but i think ill get one with sli configuration and the blu-ray drive. should be future proof for 3 or 4 years.

  • well besides crysis lol

    but i doubt 3-4 years

    maybe 1-2 at most

  • Great system, not as powerful as XPS 720 but ATX makes this line worth considering for any gamer on a budget.

Dell are fantastic at listening to what customers want and delivering it.

    5 Stars.

  • im getting xps 630 is cheaper and better

  • which one is better, please help mee im undecided on buying the 420 or 630

  • I wanted to buy the XPS 420 but when i configure the 420 its as expensive as the 630.

  • i agree yellowleader1, i cant decide which one to buy because i am having the same problem as you, when i configure them both to the same specs, they cost the same...oh well good luck choosing, i think im going for the 420 because it has a mini screen and it ahs a viiv processor...

  • I would go for the XPS 630. The 420 still uses the old obsolete BTX chassis, while the 630 uses the standard ATX chassis. Therefore, you can be 100% sure that any upgrades you would want, it will work with the XPS 630.

  • i first wanted to buy the 720, but this is cooler, and cheaper ;)

  • first view ... awesome pc
