My dad past away when 9 days after my 16th birthday, I remember his singig this song when we went Christmas Shopping that December....Love the song, but makes me cry EVERY time I hear it...
I enjoy Ronnie Milsaps Beautiful music..This is true music to listen to and enjoy. my favorite is "lost in the 50's" love the opening verse close your eyes baby!!
Too me, this just may be the prettiest song ever made. To someone who grew up in the fifties, such as I did, this is just fanastic. A great remake of "In the Still of the Night", Ronnie, you are one of the all-time greats.
sitting in a bar on kereoke night on a saturday night listeining to all these horrible drunk fucks sing.. all of a sudden this eldery worman walks up to the mic and they announce shes singing a ronnie milsap song im like wtf is this.....it was one of the most beautiful voices i have ever heard and my life..not only did i get goosebumps it almost brought a tear to my eye with the extravagence and soul in her voice... one of my most beloved airforce memories..
Just a note on Milsap ... I think his songs can cause my ears to vomit and my voiced to shout out oh god no not that terriable noise again. I want to put my head in a wasp's nest just to get away from it ! Just for the record .. in the still of the night why dont you shut up Milsap and stop singing we want to slepp fatty bon bon !
This is undoubtedly one of the best "why" dances ever. In case you don't know what that is, it's just stand there and rub, "why" dance. Definitely "why?" My husband is in heaven now and I will be joing him shortly - I sure hope that song is there. Does anyone know where I can get this CD? It's from the Branson Sound, RCA Volume 7. I need to get one for my friend.
Lost in the fifties driving around in your 55 ford , Chevy with gas at 21 cents before radar and the Vietnam draft and back when the cops caught you with a quart of beer they would make you pour it out instead of rapping you for minor possession. No worry about muslims flying jets into your city or your child getting abducted by some lunatic. Gone with wind.
each year our local oldies station plays the top 100 oldies of all time by popular vote and the original by the 5 satins is always #1. to me it is a testament to do wop that ronnie did this version.absolutely beautiful.anyone see that the original has over 2 million hits..must be a good song for all generations..
Great song...great to dance to or just listen and remember the times we had in the 50s...I love country music too...but love old rock'n'roll. This song is saying how great the music of that era was...thanks!
Awesome song!!! I'm 29 love this song!! Romantic voice, puts alot into his music... This song reminds me of a close friend that I hold close to my heart....
I am also not a child of this generation, but this music is timeless. I hear it, and I can't help but picture me and the one I hold dear sitting under a full moon enjoying the music and each other.
im gonna play this for my mother for her birthday in a few days(i play sax)im 35yrs old my parents dont even know i play the sax.gonna take her to my friends resturant and do it there.i took my GF there last year and played john cafferty's TENDER YEARS it was awsome she didnt know i was doing it.told her i was having it polished that my friend was going to do it.it was a good feeling and everyone in the place gave me a standing applause.felt good to make people happy in such a bad world nowadays
Ronnie is one of the singers that lasts no matter how many years have passed ! Can't deny the talent of someone like him. Each generation has its best songs, but the ones who overlap and continue on, especially those you can really dance cheek to cheek with, they are imprinted in the memory and in the heart. True romance is still the "real thing "! Thanks Ronnie !
NOTICE: Ronnie Milsap is coming out w/ "Country Again" July 26! "If You Don't Want Me to" will be released the 18th! Please spread the word everywhere!
@CharlieAndRonnie Thanks for the heads up! Went over the Amazon and listened to samples of the songs. Great classic country sounds. Gotta have it for my collection!
Song reminds me of my grandparents. They used to dance their butts off ever weekend to all kinds of music but this would be there last song before they went to bed...
ah the memories...me....him....45 yrs ago, Pasadena, Ca, '57 chevy, oldies on the radio, raindrops on the windshield shimmering from streetlights, my head on his shoulder, the smell of his jacket.............*sigh* Why does time go so fast?
Ronnie has the best with this song. I dislike most country music but HE IS GREAT. Danced to this with my g/f 20 some years ago. She;s in Florida ,I'm in Tennessee../The sax player is great also ..
@MrFunFactsMulalley amen to that.... i am a 90's kid too... i hate this crap that is now called "music" just think, our childeren will be listing to this crap.. lets just hope that the good erea in music comes back!!

Ronnie Milsap is one of the greatest singers of all time. He is blind, but he can see life in his music. I hope he comes out with some new music in the near future;
@The57zzBride Yep. Liquid sex, chocolate, a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado, and your best girl down at the lake....well, best boy for me, but it didn't sound like it was supposed too! Lol
you youngsters have no idea.....everything was different more violent and more sex more drugs...but people could still be trusted and went out for evenings....and people drank and smoked in the clubs and drove while drunk....nobody goes out anymore..
I'm not that crazy into country artists but this is a song that I'm surprised didn't crossover any further than the AC charts (I guess at the time the young Generation X considered this "square!") But the gated reverb drums present are very '80s however! This should had been included on the Back To The Future Soundtrack!
@DreamSeaker89 I GOT THAT TOO. Every youtube mix I play always randomly switched genre after like 4-7 songs. I was doing my yoga once to some nice relaxing music and then suddenly blaring death metal came on. Last time I ever use a youtube playlist... >.>
This is the best music, you could dance in the arms of your love or with a broom...Better with your love, but it was great, the feelings was so REAL....
I love this song and Ronnie Milsap. I see there's 5 confused people that have checked this out and dislike it. Seriously? How is it possible not to like this song?
I met ronnie milsap at beach bend park in bowling green kentucky right after he bought it.he gave a free concert that I went to with my mother and aunt.later I got to see him and shake his hand..it was great I will never for get it and ill always love his music. nick from bowling green kentucky.
How can anyone not LOVE Ronnie Milsap? Such a soulful voice, like liquid velvet it just pours out. I love Ronnie Milsap Thank You for all the childhood memories.
i was so lucky to be teen growing up in the 50s ,slow dancin with my cutie ,man what great times we had, seems like everytime we turned on the radio a new hit song was playing, the girls would run down to the record store a buy it, they had portable record players and we listened to the music untill it was time to go home...
17 here, too. I love the music of Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, Jerry Lee, The Penguins, Tommy James and the Shondells, The Clovers, The Temptations, The Del Vikings, the Five Satins, Dion and the Belmonts. 'Twas such an amazing time in music history. I wish I could have lived to see, feel, and hear it. This is the closest I'll ever get, I suppose. This is such a beautiful song! Thanks so much for the upload.
so nice, I heart this on the radio today and all I can say is this why I llove so wop and the music of the 1950s, nothing like it. What a great song this is.

that has to be one of the greatest songs ever recorded! It takes me there! All balanced - amazing vocal, backup just right, instrumentation supporting the whole thing. Love it to the max !
@gypwin my god !Do not give up the day job ! Your voice reminds me of rat being strangled by a large toad that's been eaten by a zebu(humped backed ox ). Keep flipping those burgers !x
I am a metal head who usually listens to hard rock, death metal, and the like. But for some reason this song and Mr. Lonely by Bobby Vinton gets to me like no other song.
@Renzordith Thats funny me too :) And I sing hard rock/metal but i really like Milsaps voice.... My friends would laugh if they knew I liked this tune
@toondan If you hate him so much, don't watch his video's. DUH! But as I can see, you're just another of those keyboard gangsters who go around starting crap on video's just to argue with people. Grow up and get a life. Don't criticize us for what we like, just because you don't share the same opinion. We are entitled to like who we want. Once again....GET A LIFE.
@princesslilianza1 cause, "growth hormone" is A euphemism for ROIDS! All the beef, pork and chicken in the markets has it in there. The veggies are "Speed grown" and have less vitamins and especially minerals. Our brains aren't getting what they need, and it shortens lifespan. This is how (if you have some old pictures) A young girl, say 17, in the 50's looked like todays11and 12 year old's. By now at 17,the body says "time for kids, I ain't getting any younger!"thanks to "Growth Hormones"
@bigfootskitty This is a possibility. I have notice that children, namely young girls are starting puberty earlier and earlier. In the '50s - '80s most girls didn't "start" until they were like 15-20. Now ((quoting from a yahoo news article)) girls are starting from 9 and up. However, this is the only difference. These same girls are no taller etc etc. They are heavier, but that is our mainstream society ((i.e. fast food)).
Ah well. Still lost in the 50's. I was born in '89 btw.
@princesslilianza1 I feel it to be more intimacy; nothing to do with sex, but that feeling that right person is right there where you can reach out and touch them; even if only in your mind.
I do love passionate love songs, especially the memories I have that went with songs like this. To slow dance with your love is so magical; ask any women and she'll verify this.
This was one of Mark's favorite songs and this morning it was the first song to launch in my media player. On this July 4th, missing my love I will keep him in my heart as I celebrate Indepence Day "lost in the fifties" of our twenty years of love.
I can't believe that there are people saying they don't like this beautiful love song. Are they out of their minds? What's not to love about this song? 12 dislikes? What's wrong with you people.

Dancing to this song requires holding the girl in your arms, not looking at each other and shimming your arms.

This song is like liquid sex. So romantic. Why aren't people like this anymore? This is real music, not stupid Disney channel.

@princesslilianza1 they aint like this any more cos he looks like a goofball and sings like a lizard being strangled. Milsap sucks !
toondan 1 year ago

By now at 17,the body says "time for kids, I ain't getting any younger!"thanks to "Growth Hormones"
bigfootskitty 1 year ago

Has anyone heard his 1970s hit, THE CAT WAS A JUNKIE? I can't find anything anywhere about it. I know I didn't just dream it!
alfredhitchcock8 1 year ago
This was one of Mark's favorite songs and this morning it was the first song to launch in my media player. On this July 4th, missing my love I will keep him in my heart as I celebrate Indepence Day "lost in the fifties" of our twenty years of love.
