  • I meant won.

  • You know if the Borg had sent more then 1 cube ship, they would have one! In Voyager when fighting species 1872, the Borg had fleets of ships fighting. In one shot of the show, they had 12 cubes and spheres in formation. That was epic!

  • This was easily the best scene of the film.

  • Thunderchild FTW

  • REPORT!!!!

Main powers offline, shields down and our weapons are gone

Maybe today is a good day to die, prepare for ramming speed!

Sir theres another starship coming in, its the Enterprise!

  • I'm sorry, but how did an Akira class heavy cruiser get destroyed by a tractor beam? 0:20

  • @swnerpwner21 Well, as you may not be aware, the Borg "Tractor beam" isnt just a Tractor beam. It is also a weapon, and an affective one at that. It serves to drain a ships shields and grab hold when the Borg mean to slice the ship with there cutting beams. Then if they will not bother with cutting a ship, the tractor beam drains shield rapidly and then acts more like a weapons then a holding device. The Borg tractor beams are significantly more advanced then Star Fleets.

  • @swnerpwner21 The Borg Tractor Beam is the only tractor beam that is actually an offensive weapon. It's even been Incorporated into Star Trek Online... it weakens your shield.

I would surmise that it concentrates it's energies on instead of pulling the ship in, but rather on pulling the Hull, or Shields apart.

  • Good job Picard, mainly on calmy walking up to the console and waiting 5 seconds to say "Fire", in which 2 other ships (and their 300+ crew) were destroyed.

  • I watched Star Trek when I very young, I do not remember anything except that Riker was my favorite.

  • Defiant survived battle with Borg only to be destroyed by Breen during Dominion War...

  • @MIMALECKIPL Yea, but it was replaced with a new ship.

  • @sixshooter500 True, though i was merely stating the irony of the situation. Pity the second Defiant didn't have a cloaking device...

  • @MIMALECKIPL I don't think it had ever been defined if it did have cloak, or not. But I do think the Federation is kinda stupid for not getting the Tech themselves. Both the Romulans and the Klingons have it for their ships, and Jem Hadar could do it with soldiers.

But not the federation... no wonder some races consider them the weaker ones.

  • @sixshooter500 Federation was bound by Treaty of Algeron to not to develop cloaking technology ( TNG Pegasus ) - Treaty of Algeron (see at Memory Alpha )

  • @MIMALECKIPL I remember, though I didn't remember which episode. But the federation has a bad tendency to sign treaties that are hurtful to itself.

  • @sixshooter500 Federation is willing to give some military fields to secure peace.

  • @MIMALECKIPL I forgot to mention territory ( see Cardassian Demilitarised Zone )

  • "Prepare for ramming" ha ha ha

  • It really seems like the cube is just owning EVERYTHING in one or two shots.

  • @yazf1991 That's actually how powerful Borg weaponry was before Voyager came along and declawed them. Watch Best of Both Worlds and the first episode of DS9 again; the Borg are capable of taking out a Federation ship in one shot.

  • Good thing most of those ships had their Torpedo: High-Yield BOff ability available.

  • @EricStone5 Good ability to have when fighting The Borg.

  • Perhaps next time Picard tell the fleet were to fire phasers BEFORE the admiral's ship gets destroyed.

  • I love this scene, the sounds effects are great. Also love the little ship that fires over enterprise. I never liked time travel though. Why didn't the time travel police take action against them. Also I think the borg are in combat with the entire universe not just with earth so that's probably why they don't send more than one ship. I hated the way they brought a queen into it also. Was better that they where more like a virus or a collective with out a leader.

  • (1:02) Awww, maybe you should have invited Picard to the battle, that way the cube would have been destroyed in seconds and the admiral (and millions of people) wouldn't die.....(1:27-2:15) I rest my case.

    Sorry for my shitty english

  • why do they only send one ship?, why don't they just send 50 and Earth would have been easily theirs

  • @BrettJRipley it explains in the books. If you follow the series this movie is cannon with deep space 9 and TNG. In the entire TNG series only 1 cube came from the delta quadrant with the purpose of attacking earth. Nobody could stop it and 1000s people died at wolf 359 defending earth. When data hacked the signal from piccard the borg were defenseless and self destructed. The borg intelligence "knows" that the federation does not have the fire power of harming them yet hence 1 cube sent.

  • @wesker723 Of course you can't forget part of Star Fleet's abysmal performance at Wolf 359 was because Locutus knew all their tactics and battle strategies so the Borg could effectively counter every attack formation the fleet made against them. It should also be noted that this fleet seems to have caused more damage than in the previous encounter. It's possible with more ships they could have destroyed it. But not likely with the strength they had present.

  • @BrettJRipley

You don't rent a backhoe and a cement mixer to deal with fire ants.

The Borg didn't know about Data's trick with Locutus to make the cube destruct.

And if they had known, then it wouldn't have worked, and the one cube WOULD have been enough.

  • Defiant refit Star Trek online FTW! xD

  • press 8 to fire phasers! press 9 for quantums :D

  • ..every gamer knows to focus fire! Where's Wesley we really need him!!

  • As expected, I find most of the people watching nitpicking the movie.

  • @Gravolux Or just having some fun snark.

  • @pavelb1 If you say so, dude.

  • Picard bogarts the fleet even though their central command authority on Earth is *right there*. Starfleet: "Playing it by ear since 2161".

  • I have to wonder why the Borg didn't simply time-travel in the first place.

  • I was Surprised when i found out Adam Scott(Step Brothers) played the Helmsman aboard the USS Defiant.

  • Poor Steamrunner at 2:13

  • @Ambarenya13 Funny thing is, that happened to me once in Star Trek Online.

  • Thank God the future isn't going to be like the all American Star Trek.

  • too bad the Borg did not figure how to time travel in their own quadrant and appear over earth 1000AD. End of story. Stupid writers and time travel paradoxes. I will bet the next movie involves paradox too.

  • @Stubbee Exactly, just what I was thinking. Conquer the entire galaxy just by time traveling to the past and assimilating each civilization before they even have the wheel invented.

I hate time travel to the past, UNLESS it's using the alternative universe model.

  • @UnknownXV I would have loved the borg to time travel back to the alternate universe...

  • The Defiant is so bad ass..huge hole on the right side and she is still firing, I love that little ship.

  • Sound of quantum torpedeos = spine shivvering.

  • yes enven data thought picard was attacking uselessly

  • I always wondered who would win the death star or the borg cube

  • Worf banging his hands on the console, every single moment of character development during season 4~5 of DS9 down to the bin. Blame the writers. Also, the Worf from DS9 or Benjamin Motha'fuck'n Sisko would have fared much better.

  • @DeftCrowMk3 seriously? he's a klingon, he's meant to be fierce and ferocious in battle. the character development is saved for when he's not in battle, so this doesn't change a thing

  • @Omegafire17 Being fierce in battle and wasting time venting out frustration are not the same. If the writers have known better, they would not have penned un-Klingonly conduct like that into the script, wasting four precious seconds that would have been spent accelerating towards the Borg cube.

  • this is a captain! the first to have destroyed a Borg cube with no special devices! w picard

  • Cool, so I'm not the only one who love the Akira class, awesome. :D

  • This is why the main weapon on a starship should be an old school catapult on it's back. Purpose? Launch warp cores!

  • ok, is it me or where the weak section of borg shields the fleet fires upon in the same place the defiant was shit kicking at 0:22 ?

  • -The fleet is standing by, sir!

-Wait, we still gotta watch some people die while I'm standing still in silence...Ok, now you can fire.

  • @c0p13dn4m3 they had to get into position!

  • @c0p13dn4m3 It's pretty obvious you have to give the surviving fleet time to maneuver into a place they could fire at the coordinates Picard indicated.

  • @GnatTwo It's also pretty obvious Picard could have just given those coordinates to the fleet before the battle even began, possibly saving thousands of lives.

  • @c0p13dn4m3 It's also very obvious that picard heard the borg talking about where their hull was weakest... you do hear the borg talking in the movie...

  • @benjaminmullin96 It's also obvious that the plot of the movie is just an unbelieveable mess. Either the writers didn't know what they were doing, or the delivery is so bad that noone can make sense of it.

  • @c0p13dn4m3 While i stand in this epic stance, looking EPIC!

  • @c0p13dn4m3 EXACTLY! WTF?

  • @c0p13dn4m3 LMAO...I was thinking the same thing.

  • Perhaps today is a good day to die, prepare for ramming speed!

    Best line in the movie.

  • @Usercool hell whenever i'm on star trek online n I'm about to do ramming speed, that line always comes into mind lol

  • @Usercool "assimilate this" is better.

  • @Usercool What about: "If you were any other man I would kill you where you stand!"

Admitedly, Word Owns this Film, and DS9

  • @Usercool that's speaking klingonese

  • @Usercool

That kid was like "WHAT??? Ramming Speed?!! Oh god, I knew this was gonna happen when they let Worf command the ship. I gotta think of something fast! Wait, the Enterprise is here! Hmm...Maybe if I tell him about it, he'll forget about that ramming speed shit!"

  • Now this..is the Borg..

Not Janeway's pussy shit from Voyager..

  • I wish this battle was longer...

don't get me wrong, i LOVED every second of it, but i just wish there was more weapons fire, action insanity, the whole deal

still, favorite moments are Defiant firing it's quad cannons, the Enterprise-E's awesome dramatic entrance, and the entire combined firepower scene ;)

  • It's a great scene from the film, but farrrrr to short.

They should've extended it, would've made for an awesome space battle.

  • Arent they a bit too fucused on transporter Room 3?

  • What would the Federation have done if the Borg were smart enough to send more than one Cube at Wolf 359?

  • @L0LWTF1337 Worf would take care of that. "PREPARE FOR RAMMING SPEED!!!!" So, all 40 ships would die in the most romantic way...

  • @L0LWTF1337 There were even smarther than that, they were just probing the Federations defences. In 2381 they luanched an all out offencive against the federation. 7000 cubes against the whole of the alpha quadrant, they were barely stopped. In the end 54 billion people were dead or assimilated and many alpha quadrant races did not recover.

  • @wicksinn Dont know, there did u get this? I mean none of the series covers this time periode. voyager stopped 2378.

  • I liked first contact although the borg battle was too short. However, thats not why i comment today. Im just amazed that the Endeavor was yet at another borg battle and lived yet another day. Still the same Nebula class ship and the only old school ship shown at the current battle. Can be seen at 1:50 rest in peace old starfleet ships, you are all missed! :(

  • Surely, they could have just vented plasma then realign the warp core to emit graviton neutrinos that would destabilise the cubes integrity field, causing a micron particle singularity, therefore preventing them from cycling their outter proton couplers and produce a metaphasic shift in their fluffy white bunny feet which would discomfort them to no end and hey presto, you have one dead cube. Or else you could just use conventional tactics.

  • @TheRhinehart86 Ah! you forget that the borg would have anticipated this ;)

  • Is it just me, or are the weapon sounds used in this movie a bit cartooney sounding? The sound effects from the TV show sounded much better..I wonder why they did not use them?

  • yay! Millenium Falcon at 0:20 to the left of the screen! :D

  • @BongleBot I think that's a Saber class.

  • Main power is gone - Prepare for ramming speed?!?!?!?

  • @SuperJuliusC main power doesn't equal all power ;) after all, many ships do have auxilary power for things like this

  • @Omegafire17 Okay okay okay - But I still have a feeling why Sisko and O`Brien stayed at home...

But ramming speed while being under the influence of a tractor beam?! Beaming while shields are up?! Only the Enterprise got the "good" torpedoes (so let`s keep her totally out of the main battles of the war against the Dominion)?!

    Nerdgasm!

  • Are these models or CG?

  • @horaciosi Mixture. The borg cube also had countless paperclips, among other office supplies, glued on the side. Star Trek has an interesting history of using just about anything laying around for props and sets.

  • @horaciosi

Looks CG. First Contact was made during the heydey of DS9, which used CG. That and it's extremely difficult to coordinate all those models around and to blow them up at the director's discretion. If a ship's explosion didn't look right to him, they would have to build another model and film the scene again. Ad Infinitium this process would force the cost of this one scene to skyrocket.

  • Kirk as the voice of the Borg. I shudder to think, but it would be funny if the Borg began using his halting speech patterns.

  • The defiant class are like the tanks of spaceships.

  • I wonder if star fleet used the other 4 Soveren class ships

  • @SauceofEpic They don't like to confuse the audience, that's why they didnt toss in other Sovereign Class ships in the battle scene, or Intrepid Classes (Voyager), they don't want the audience confusing them with the hero ships of the series..I guess they don't give us Trek fans much credit :)

  • Ben Wyatt!? What are YOU doing on the Defiant?!?!

  • I hate those Borg SOBs. The place where I work is full of them and they're all rotten bastards.

  • Go on soverreign u sexy ship u :P

  • Why build space stations if they are always so easy to destroy

  • If kirk fought the borg, he would probably try to get it on with the queen....ewww.

  • @pierreo33 On the Contrary, First Contact is probably one of the better Star Trek Movies.

  • @pierreo33 I'd take this one over Star Trek 5 in a heartbeat

  • This sounds AMAZING on Blu-ray!

  • I love the Norway class so much, but you only see it a couple of times in this movie :(

  • @Dracotonis The CGI model for it got corrupted and they didn't have a backup, so we never got to see it in DS9...

  • I love the Akira class. To bad they never made a series focusing on it.

  • @DarkAutumnNight Akira Class is an amazing looking ship, and it holds its own in this battle. I used it a lot in Starfleet Command III.

  • @DarkAutumnNight ...It looks like they did. ANd it sucks.

...Too bad. The Akira is indeed kickass in my eyes, and I statted it up and used it in ocmputer games, Alex Jaeger made it into a truly decent CG (Guided Missile Cruiser).

  • @DarkAutumnNight They've always used new ship designs for our hero ships (except for the Enterprise-A and the Sao Paulo).

Still, the NX-01 was obviously partially inspired by the Akira.

  • @DarkAutumnNight Actually, they sorta did. The NX-01 Enterprise was an early version of the Akira class.

  • @kevinphoenix2007

It was a god damn copy of a good ship design. It is not very innovative to take an existing ship design and turn it around.

  • @DarkAutumnNight

Yeah they did...they turned it upside down....and called it the NX-01 Enterprise.

  • @DarkAutumnNight I love how one got blown up at 2:13 when the cube exploded!

  • me encanta!!!!

  • It's the Enterprise!

  • Having been a Borg for a short time he maintains a semi-conscious link to the collective. At 1:18 you can see him listening to the collective which reveals to him alone the tactic which wins the battle.

  • @andyt1313 yes

  • I really loved it the first time we saw this scene and seeing the Defiant on the big screen.

  • where in this battle is the Millennium Falcon?

  • @SmoggyZilla It's at 0:19 seconds, underneath the big Akira class, flying away from the cube on the left of your screen.

  • @SmoggyZilla

"Great Shot Picard! That's one in a million!"

  • I miss the sound of classic phasers and torpedoes.

  • what would happen if the borg sent 2 cubes? ^.^

  • @nightreaper999 or 15 like in voyager lol

  • who is the actor next to Worf in the ship scene?

  • @hexthorn551 Adam Scott. he played derek in Step Brothers :)

  • Christian Bale as Worf

  • The Battle Scene with the Defiant was good. It just should have been much Longer and started with teh Deep Space Nine theme that then blends into the Star Trek / Next Generation theme. An opportunity make an even Greater movie was lost

  • Comment removed

  • heres a question. why do the borg send 1 cube only?

  • @nightreaper999

    More than enough, they thought.

  • @nightreaper999 I know right why????!!

  • @nightreaper999 They "play" with their food. It makes sense given how the Borg advance. Examine a species. If interesting, send a Cube. If they get assimilated, oh well. If they somehow WIN, wait awhile, send another Cube. Why do this? Think about all the new gadgets a species will come up with after almost dying (necessity and innovation and all that). Quantum torpedoes, regenerative shielding, etc just some of the stuff the Federation came up with following the 1st Cube.

  • @nightreaper999 Voyager accidentally explains this process. Let the "food" keep advancing, feverishly coming up with all these awesome new ideas, then...send a dozen Cubes to their homeworld.

The last episode of Voyager reveals the Borg can Transwarp to one lightyear from Earth. The Borg have no need to even fight Starfleet. If the Borg wanted to, they could eat the Federation "tomorrow". They don't, cause they can afford to be patient, it's not like they've ever failed...

  • When seeing who much damage one Borg cube did you got to ask yourself what would have happened if the Borg had decided to attack in full force?

That is what would have happened if the did and The Voyager HADN`T returned with the special weapon to fight the Borgs.

  • @Erikjust Oh it did! janway got assimilated and the borg invaded with 7640 cubes. Voyager and an alliance fleet were tossed asside like rag dolls when the borg entered the alpha quadrant... 54 bilion dead.or assimilated.

  • und dabei hieß es doch ein Brog Schiff ist noch einsatzfähig selbst wenn 95% zerstört sind

jetzt hängt doch alles von einem punkt ab

  • Sir, the coordinates you've indicated do not appear to be a vital system.

    Trust me Data.

    Whatever then Picard, just sayin'....

  • why only send 1 cube? pardon me for sounding vulcan but a fleet of borg cubs would have been more logical

  • @Joe89PS3 I don't know if this book is canon, but in the Trek book "The Return", half of their supposed 'homeworld' was destroyed. The one Borg vessel could be the Borg's last ditch effort to attack earth, so to speak.

  • OUR ENEMIES HIDE IN METAL BAWXES!

  • ket us watch the whole movie

  • PREPARE FOR RAMMING SPEED!

  • Fucking idiots....oh durr lets fire at the same spot! BRILLIANT!

  • @tmande2nd right like you know anything about being a tactical officer moron.

  • @youtheee And like you know anymore? How many IQ points does it take to realize that FIRING AT THE SAME SPOT is a good idea? Probably a bit more than you have I presume.

  • @tmande2nd Um i play star trek online thx nub, god people these days....

im a Klingon Gorn tactical officer .

    Pew -pew owned...lol

  • @youtheee im trill kdf tactical.go Kar'fi carrier

  • @tmande2nd Well, firing at that one spot wouldn't have done anything at the start of the battle. The weak point had developed as a result of the battle damage from hours of combat, it wasn't always there.

  • MAN! I LOVE THESE EFFECTS!!!

  • 0:19 Chewie! Get us out of here!

  • I can't help but wonder.... the size of the Defiant compared to a Borg Cube....

How much damage could he possible inflict. It would be like throwing a pea towards a tank :P

  • @HarakMolova

But, it's a tlhIngan naH pea, so the tank is destroyed, the tank's brigade is destroyed, the brigade's army group is destroyed, and three surrounding star systems are heavily damaged.

    Ka'plah!

  • @HarakMolova Despite its size, the Defiant was one of the most heavily armed and most maneauverable warships available. It was the first Starfleet ship designed for the singular purpose of war.

  • @GaMEChld She was indeed. Only reason she recived the escourt designation instead of destroyer or anything remotly close to a warship type was because Starfleet doesn't make Warships. But I call bullshit as the Ent E was a min, a battle crusier, at most a Battleship.

  • @HarakMolova The defiant is a dedicated warship. All peaceful facilities are absent to make place for military modules. The Defiant could give the Enterprise a run for its money. It's fire power is scary.

  • they should have just sent voyager....they never seemed to get bested by the borg

  • 2 minutes and 15 seconds of glory.....love Worf's reaction to the E!

  • @AnthonyP73 good you told him that

  • Picard>Kirk.

If Kirk fought the Borg he'd be toast.

  • @MrImastinker no, he would have gone over and beaten all the Borg with his fists of awesome.

it's also why sisko couldn't be in this film. he would have destroyed the Borg with the gravity of his balls.

  • @MrImastinker Let's make one thing very clear here: The Borg would not assimiliate Kirk. Kirk would assimiliate the Borg by virtue of his own awesomeness.

  • @MrImastinker I don't think so, because he Kirk has Spock in his team. Spock would very fast figure out how to destroy these cubes ....

  • @balouthewatz Well, that's Spock's victory, not Kirk's.

  • @MrImastinker He'd beat their ass like a red-headed stepchild.

  • @haljohn2814 After he nailed the best-looking Borg female.

  • @MrImastinker Wrong. Kirk would seduce the Borg queen and convince the drones that there were an imperfect, illogical race... at which point they would self destruct. Universe saved.

  • @Champion1970 Perhaps, or he'd just get a Borg fist in the mouth. Given he could barely dodge a geriatric Gorn I'm only partially confident Kirk could bust out any of his "advanced" combat moves long enough to get to the Queen.

  • @rubaiyat300 - In a space battle however, the Enterprise of Kirk's time would get trashed. The technology then would not be sufficient to destroy a Borg cube. Doesn't matter how good of a captain you are if your ship doesn't stand a chance.

  • @Sparrow9612 Oh yeah, I'm actually usually against using the campy feats of 60's Kirk as some kind of proof of his awesomeness or even superiority over say Picard. It would be like saying Adam West Batman would beat Christian Bale Batman. Yeah West might have some Loony Tunes type anti-Batman plot device handy in his 60's technicolor Batcave that could defeat Bale, but my money is on West being put in the hospital at the end of the day.
