@mjnoir1 The 50's to early 60's. It was a show for kids so we didn't follow that stuff too close, Plus this is where the phrase jumping the shark comes from (Fonzie jumped a pack of sharks on his motorcycle), the show got less technical post jumping the shark.
Ritchie and Ralph left the show to become cartoon characters, get in a time machine, and try to get back to 1957. You see, they knew the time lines were screwed up.
well, to clarify, it STARTED set in the late 50's, but by the time Leather was introduced it would have been set in the 60's...actually, the early 60's, sorry
@SuperWright74 Johnny B. Goode was written and performed by Chuck Berry in 1958 and so it is assumed this was about that time. Ron Howard's character left the show in what would be about 1959. Regarding her music style, Leather was ahead of her time.
@tryithere Actually Happy Days updated its year every year. It ran for 14 seasons & took place between 1952 (debuting 1/15/74) to 1966 (9/24/84). The "final" episode ran on 5/8/84 with unaired episodes continuing through the summer. Ron Howard left the show after the 7th season so the 1960's episodes are those w/o him, except when he returned briefly for season 11.
@tryithere ...(continued)....Later plots reflected the 60's including the family seeing the film THE MUSIC MAN, an episode where Fonzie travels to Alabama to participate in civil rights activities with the Freedom RIders (who formed in 1961), an episode where Fonzie is upset Folk Singing has replaced Rock-N-Roll, the Frankie Avalon episode (Beach Party era), & in the final season "The Spirit Is Willing" Fonzie wishes things could be the way they were back in the 50's when he was younger.
@Gnillob802 You are right, I am wrrrrr, You are right, I am wrrrrr, You are right, I am wrrrrr, You are right, I am wrrrrr, You are right, I am wrrrrr, You are right, I am wrrrrrong.
Wasn't this show set in the fifties? There was no woman performer alive in those days who had a shag haircut, played a bass and wore a glittery jumpsuit. Or had the name "Leather", either. Whose brainstorm was it to have Suzi Quatro on Happy Days? Talk about a stupid idea!
@cynthiacher hey, watch it, Suzi is great!!! I think it's good that she was on a few episodes and she was born in 1950 and she was born into a musical family, so yes, she was playing music and started around the age of 14 with her sisters. She was in her 20s here in the 70s, so yes, it was a perfect time for her to be in the show
Because the guitar and bass weren't plugged in. Or they'd have tripped over the leads as they did the side shuffle out of the door and back.
Meanwhile Ron Howard can cry all the way to the bank - he's a very successful film director now. I was in one of his films; only background, but hey, I stood that close to the man between scenes. Never worked with Suzi Quatro though, botheration !
This show just got horrendous about this time. When Potsy went from absolute dork to some kind of entertainer/"heart-throb" it just became awful. Rotten scene.
Everytime I get a crap haircut where the hairstylist doesn't understand "long layers in the front only" I end up with her hairstyle- reminds me of this all the time!
@amcfan100 It was cool unless your name is Ralph (like me) in the 5th grade, lol. Still enjoyed it though, good times until Fonzie jumped the shark! This song was probably post jumping the shark days.
Hey, Danny Bonaduche got away with it for four seasons on the Partridge Family- Ron Howard's a better actor than Danny so if Danny could pull it off so can Ron.
Rididulous! The hair was not in then,Johnny B.Goode would have been an 'oldies'by then.,and women didn't front bands like then back then.Vocal groups,Yes,BandsNO!
True,In part. She did play guitar and she did front the band but mostly known as Wanda Jackson not WJ and the..... Plus ,Not whole heartedly Rock n Roll, tho close in some ways. For that matter so did Loretta Lynn. I guess my point was that a group like 'Leather Tucsadero and the Suedes' would not have existed. I do appreciate your input!
@Nickcat5 Hey check out Suzi's band with her sisters called The Pleasure Seekers here on YouTube. So far I have only found an audio recording of them but I think some video exists of them somewhere..
@tryithere The strange thing about that though is Susi introdues them as Lilly and Tilly to the crowd, but on the IMBD website it claims they were cast as Bertie(donna fein) and Gertie(kathy richards(hilton).
Brilliant! Brilliant!!!!!! LOOK OUT MAIDEN!!!! LOOK OUT PRIEST. SHE ROCKS SO HARD. SHELL BLOW YOU TO THE EAST! ....Apparantly she only faces east when shes performing. now that I explained the joke I ruined it. GREAT JOB, -ME!

Give me Joan Jett any day. At least she had some balls.
Wow. I think Ron Howard is right up there with Steve Vai and Eric Clapton. And he's quite a dancer. How about that great rendition of JB Good? Thanks for sharing. I have to go throw up now...excuse me...
This is the great, Suzi Quatro. There are over 20 of her videos on the MrPerod channel. She was Joan Jett's inspiration. Suzi was much bigger in the UK than in the USA but she was a Detroit girl in the Mitch Rider mold..
This show was actually good the first few seasons. Remember when fonzie was a bad guy. It went downhill when they went to a live studio audience & started using those crappy catch phrases. The people in charge of props were way off. Look at all the 70s hair styles & even some of the clothes. this show was supposed to be set in the early to mid 60s. I cant beleive I watched this crap back then. Horrible!!!
Suzi's first big "Glam" hit was Can The Can in 1973. This was shot in the late seventies when Suzi's career was in a decline. Pity she never made it big in the U.S., her native country.
Its definately a pity. I recently discovered her stuff here on youtube as I was watching Joan Jett stuff a few years ago. US's 70s music was pretty much soft rock and MOR stuff. We missed out on 95% of the kick ass Glam rock/ Pub rock.
I'm for Orange and Fearne Cotton interviewed him for us on the Red Carpet, if you search for bafta 2009 ron howard interview with fearne cotton you'll find it!

Suzi Quatro has a few albums to her name alright. She even had a hit single doing a duet some someone out there. Chris Norman whoever that is. Ths songn was called Stumblin' In. As for Richie, he has been seen playing the sax but I don't know if it's for real.
That song means so much to me, especially the past four years. This song brings back memories when Peter Joyce and Lady Diana and I had some fun back in the early eighties.
I have a lot to say about this for the television et movie et music et literary industry.
Google Jeff Fisher American Patriot loves Jane Bowell and God Forever
Richie is a musical God! How many instruments has he mastered? The sax, guitar, drums, piano, harp! He's a freakin' genuis!!!
Whatever happened to the actress that played Mary Beth? She was a semi-main character on the show but she's never mentioned on any of the retrospectives/reunions. She always reminded me of the wife in 'Family Circus.'
First of all the charcther was Lori Beth, not Mary Beth. Second, she appeared on the 30th Anniversary Special- only in the softball game. Her name was Linda Goodfriend.
Yeah really. He was really cool. I interviewed him at the radio station that I work at. He invited me and my mom to come to the place he was performing, I was supposed to meet his sister but we had to do some other things. So its recorded not written. Sorry...
Hey she seems pretty great. He's really cool too. Nice guy. And im sorry I forgot to answer when he came, he came about 2 weeks ago...it was really cool
I love happy days! It's as funny as hell, especially seasons 3-6.I also discovered Suzi after seeing her on happy days and bought all her albums and still buy her new stuff when it comes out.She should have recorded a version of this song, she sounds great here!
On the contrary, Happy Days is where i 1st saw her. i thought WOW there are girl rockers. The next day i bought her album. I think the reason she didn't "make it big" in the usa, is because the usa wasn't ready for a real rock n roll woman. same with joan jett & the runaways. in the late 70s, they never got air play even on the so called "progressive" radio stations.
It's always been a mystery to me too that Suzi was never bigger in the US than she was. 48 Crash and Devil Gate Drive were awesome tunes. But I guess people liked her for her ballads (Stumblin In).
Actually, Potsy was a very cool character in the 1972 pilot. Check it out. It's too bad he was relegated to such a background, dorky minor character in the real series.
How many of you know that Suzi Quatro has an "official YouTube page"?

Richie is a musical God! How many instruments has he mastered? The sax, guitar, drums, piano, harp! He's a freakin' genuis!!!
Whatever happened to the actress that played Mary Beth? She was a semi-main character on the show but she's never mentioned on any of the retrospectives/reunions. She always reminded me of the wife in 'Family Circus.'

Did Richie, Potsie, & Ralph ever find a name for their band? Leather & the Suades were damn hot. I think I prefer Leather over her sister Pinky.
Captmiloman 2 years ago
I think they were called 'Potsie's Players.'
Leather was hot but there was something ragged about her hair.

They became known as The Happy Days Band. Pretty original, huh.

@jksonny He can't even pretend to play guitar.

@jksonny

Sorry...

Ok thanx for the replay... I have some good records of him... but his sister Suzi is great!

I love happy days! It's as funny as hell, especially seasons 3-6.I also discovered Suzi after seeing her on happy days and bought all her albums and still buy her new stuff when it comes out.She should have recorded a version of this song, she sounds great here!

I think her Happy Days crap is what kept her from making it bigger in the USA.
sirdarklust 4 years ago
On the contrary, Happy Days is where i 1st saw her. i thought WOW there are girl rockers. The next day i bought her album. I think the reason she didn't "make it big" in the usa, is because the usa wasn't ready for a real rock n roll woman. same with joan jett & the runaways. in the late 70s, they never got air play even on the so called "progressive" radio stations.

It's always been a mystery to me too that Suzi was never bigger in the US than she was. 48 Crash and Devil Gate Drive were awesome tunes. But I guess people liked her for her ballads (Stumblin In).
Defensewhiz 3 years ago
I agree. Anyone on Happy days was a dork, or so I thought, so I discounted her. I was wrong about her. I only found Suzie by accident last year.

Actually, Potsy was a very cool character in the 1972 pilot. Check it out. It's too bad he was relegated to such a background, dorky minor character in the real series.

Suzi's brilliant - but WTF is the deal with the cheesy cheerleaders in the background??
GroovyBlackCat 4 years ago
They were Leather's backup dancers, Millie and Tillie, "The Suedes."
carpalton 4 years ago
LOL, how do you remember that? The Suedes, classic.
