I'm playing this piece for this years cello festival in hope to become the winner of the cello faculty, and this performace is the bigges inspiration I could ever wish for (the only thing I'm concerned about is that he uses a completely different fingering to the one my teacher gave me and it seams less difficult but less musical to me

i think because it's so naked, intonation is a big factor. same with every piece, but much more so with faure.  I just played elegie and was critiqued on intonation. now i'm playing this and hopefully i can wow my professors

It doesn't sound too fast to me. This works beautifully on the cello - especially when it's played this well. The pianist makes such an important contribution too; the accompaniment here is unobtrusive but essential. Thank you for posting

That's really good. I'm playing this at the moment, looking for inspiration. I'm struggling a bit with the sound in the high majority of the piece- I will have to strive to be like this cellist!
