  • Do you play this tuned a half step down? On my guitar it only sounds right tuned down when I play with the song.

  • No worries - as soon as I get am MP3 of this am throw my youtube version out there - (I cant seem to youtube and webcam record at same time) - I learned most of the tune by listening to your version - then noticed the variation on the chords - my best effect seems to be a dirty chorus / delay / and heavy compression .... nearest I can get to a decent sound on it ......

  • Am pretty certain your first 2 chord riffs are correct - but the 4th actually has a G root -theres a slide to 3rd fret e string = G /appregio on strings DGB strings with 1st finger on the 1st fret of the B string (C) - so its .....slide to 3x001 then xxxx33 on top two strings (of a G chord)-also the little chord appregio after 2nd verse is split into 2 shapes xx6533 and then x1311x x1313x x1314x (which u do anyway) - thats my take ... am sure its right ....great guitar chorus effex u have

  • @ALTelecaster Hmm. Gotta try it later back at home. Thanks! I think this one I'm playing though a You Dirty Rat and a Boss CE2 clone.

  • That was great, you did the song justice.

  • @halfcabdisaster7 Thank you!

  • As a total Siouxsie fan I have to say you a fantastic guitar player 8-)

  • @lewisner Thanks a lot for watching and writing :)

  • Nice to see someone keeping the spirit of McGeoch alive :)

  • @pawnsacrifice1 It's an obligation for music lovers :)

  • Hi man, good job! :)

What kind of effect do you use for this song? Thank you!

  • @Vivv791 Hi, thanks! I'm not sure, but probably it was guitar>you dirty rat(distortion)>boss ce2 clone (chorus), into the sound board.

  • EXCELLENT !!!!!!!

  • Awesome cover. Great job!!

  • @Mojooverlord Thanks for watching!

  • Proof positive that having a good ear is not just fundamental, but without it, any skill or talent is quite effectively negated. Can you really not hear how wrong you are playing this? (2nd measure) It's not just a note out of place, it's a note that isnt even in the correct key! Really though...you cant hear how dreadful that sounds? Get the tab. Watch a video, anything! Clean those ears!

  • @eggbertsmith Sorry, I can't. Enlighten me with your wisdom... what do you mean with second measure, the second chord? I've watch dozens of videos to get this right, McGeochs videos, not Robert Smith's, he plays it differently.

  • @Guedzilla fuck it sounds good to me 5*

  • @gottisher28 He never got back to tell me what was so terribly wrong...

  • @Guedzilla I always thought when I played this (a bifferently to you, shape-wise) that the guitar followed the bass, i.e., D......... -> C......... -> B..........

Sounds to me like you miss out the "C"

  • @secallen The first version I recorded had the C, but it seems McGeoch didn't play it at all... watch?v=FZgNlWRWtp0 at around 15 seconds... :)

  • @Guedzilla I think you're absolutely right. It sounds odd only without the bass. they must have decided that the D on the guitar combined with the C on the bass created a nice tension.

  • @secallen Do you think it's audible on the original version? I think it would not make much of a difference if he played that C. I think the bottom line may be that since the bass is playing the note, there's no need for the guitar too. Or maybe he came up with the guitar part first, and then Steven did the bass line a bit different and they kept it that way.

  • @Guedzilla It's so hard for me to tell on the original but if he's doing that live I guess the studio must be the same, the only difference being the guitar and bass don't sound as separate as they do live.

BTW I just found this interview with the Banshees which has a couple of words from JMcG too. Pretty dumb interview but nice to hear John's Scottish/English voice.. Maybe you've seen it already...

    watch?v=g0Ns0NwlJq4

  • what kind of guitar do you have good sir?

  • @Calvakins This one is a Yamaha SG3000

  • Ok, I owe you an apology... I'm an idiot. I was trying to remember how to play it from memory, and I appear to have made up some nonsense about "removing the index finger", which is utter bollocks. I just played through it now, and the chords I use are x5353x, xx0x30, x2xx31, x53533. Whereas you play 'xx0230' (adding the A) as opposed to 'xx0x30'. That's it. That's all I'm getting worked up about. Again, I'm an idiot. Many apologies for this long-winded attempt to explain nothing in particular.

  • @jaffacakesarenice Hey don't worry! It's a bit complicated to explain over the internet, indeed, but I see your point. I never checked about that A, I just went and did the Dsus9 chord with the bass changes or something. I'll check it later, but I think you're right! Don't worry about pointing this kind of things out, we all learn from them =)

  • this is my past....very good my firend....nando from italy

  • @Marcantonio40 Thanks! Cheers to Italy =)

  • Awesome.

  • Any chance of Nightshift or Pulled to Bits?

  • @ianagar Night Shift is on plans, but I still gotta learn it properly.

  • God job!

  • Thanks!

  • You seem to have the same guitar as Mc Geoch. Did you figure those chords by listening are they written some where? Anyway it's good to see young guitar players are inspired by the creative approach Mc Geoch took mixing jazz sonorities with arpegios and flamenco-like strumming.

  • I bought it after I found out which guitar it was he played. (Not only because he played it, but after research I found out it was a superb and underrated guitar). But it's not exactly the same, he played an Yamaha SG 1000, whereas mine's a 3000...but it was what I could find. I learn the songs usually by ear and by watching the available videos, which unfortunately aren't much. And the tabs that are around usually are based on Robert Smith's versions, which differ a bit from the original. =)

  • Great to see you on.I got two new tracks up on facebook.

    Dorian

  • Aye!

    Gonna check em out!

  • you have been missed dude, i was wondering if you were not going to do more cool things, i like this version but the singers sounds to me to other spellbound cover... anyways is cool to see more mcgeochs covers

  • Hey, how are you?

Last yeasr I was working on some songs by myself and recording a demo with my band... didn't have much time to record more Banshees stuff. I didn't understand what you said about the singer... but ehm, it's me :) But I wasn't aiming for a good performance or anything, it's just there toi make the song structure right, otherwise it would be boring to listen to just the instrumental...

  • awesome. head cut will be great. sin in my heart would be excellent too.

  • Thanks!

Sin in my heart is still on plans but I gotta get the moves with the Ebow first :)

  • Don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I think the second chord's wrong. Not sure, though.

  • @noceboxu

    You think so?

We've been over this for some time now... what do you make of it?

No being jerk, comments and corrections are welcome!

  • @Guedzilla

No, my bad. I got a bit confused by the bassline. Keep up your good work!

  • @Guedzilla I think noceboxu is right... Try xx0x31 for the second chord (then xx0x30). That's how I play it anyway, and I'm pretty sure how McGeoch does too. Good cover though! Nice McGeoch-y tone.

  • @jaffacakesarenice I didn't quite understand that... mean it would go x5353x, xx0x31, xx0x30, x53533 ?

Robert Smith played it a bit differently, he mouted the chords more on the first position of the hand, but it sounded a bit different...

  • @Guedzilla Nope, I meant x5353x, xx0x31, xx0x30 (that's just the chord you're left with when you remove your index finger from the 1st string), x0xx31, x0xx30 (again, the chord you're left with when you remove your index finger from 1st string), then x53533. Sorry if this is confusing; it's so hard to express guitar tablature properly on the internet!

  • @jaffacakesarenice Ok, I understood... I tried to post another message earlier on but youtube didn't help. But look, you can see clearly on the live version from 1981, posted by skywalker74 (I couldn't find a way to post the link to the video). He does the B on the bass, then does the little riff back to the first chord... right on the beginning of the video.

  • @Guedzilla Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot the B in the bass! I meant x2xx31, not x0xx31 (I'm starting to confuse myself here!). You're playing it right, other than the second chord (at 0:03) though I think, you're adding an extra A that I don't think is there when McGeoch plays it... I'm just wondering if it's me playing it wrong, that's all! It still sounds fine though. Don't even know why I made such a fuss about it in the first place to be honest.
