blah blah blah blah, all your assumptions are a product of a cultural operating system that is man made and paper thin at best. Chew some shrooms and stop the verbal diatrab...peace
I would love to see this critter and anyone else like him out in the real world, off the pedestal they have put themselves on, that others also have put him on.
I would love to see this man put under pressure like the rest of us, then and only would we see what he is truly made of.
Mooji does live in the real and has had some very tough life experiences that led him to search for truth instead of doing what most of us do and createa bitter existence for ourselves. And he is living his version of truth and seems to be doing a good job of it by the looks of it . So don't judge a book by its cover, see if his teachings resonate anything in you. If not move on, he is not forcing you into anything.
That's a pretty good response there and I appreciate what you are suggesting.
I am just a bit scathing about many of these people these days who appear to be "cashing in" on the "enlightenment" business with all their books and DVDs. It would seem that everybody is "enlightened" today and whilst many seem to be pretty charismatic individuals and say and do many of the right things it's fair to say that the great saints such as Ramana were never cashing in along the way.
Ramana, rightly so he is a great master but should you not place a difference between Eastern and Western teachings, with the running costs being more in the West, printing costs, hiring venues to hold satsang aren't cheap inorder to make this teaching available to more in a language that does not confuse the western conditioned mind. Its like my teacher he was paying his waterbill last time I met him and how would he do that if he didn't charge on some level. Masters have to eat, pay bills
Every Master I know has a team of people who act on his/her behalf on running their organisation once it gets to that stage where more people get interested. I'm more than happy to contribute in a fair way in the running costs and I do want my teacher to have a life away from just teaching me, enjoy a cup of tea or a new car as we do if that need arises. Some people want to improve their monetry level or status in society and may attract a wrong teacher. They may have to experience that first.
Every Satsang has running costs no matter where they are in the world. In India they are much cheaper and the money from sales of books still circulate back into the wider population in way of charitable means too aswell as paying costs into the printing companies, the cost of venues which helps those people. The teaching is for seekers of truth and the money goes back into the teaching and wider population and their organisatons.
As for giving books away it will depends on how big the organisation is, how long they have been running, what percentage of people are willing to work for free and run a family themselves . And many do, many can't. The Radha Soami Beas of India who have been running for at least a 100 years can now afford to do that, htey now a free hospital, library and books are at cost price now. That may not of been the case when they first started.
This is always going to be the danger and the various "spiritual centres" in India these days always come with a price tag. I believe they have mostly lost their way, it's one of the great obstacles.
No you can't call it a business in the sense it is a profit making corp for sole purpose creating a pyramid structure as we do where the man at the top really gains. There are laws in place where they have to register these places as charitable organisations. The days are gone when a teacher could sit by the side of river and a group would acumalate arond him and his needs from food and clothing were met. You can't do that really anymore in the East and you sure can't do that in the West.
Of course it is, it's a commercial enterprise and anyone who suggests otherwise needs their head read, hell, at least call it what it is even if there is some good being done.
The way I see it is that these ones have all discovered the great dollar and have mostly become influenced by it in one way or other.
There are indeed a few very pure ones around, just not many.
Well instead of aiming your vent at the mystics why don't you turn it around and ask the question why don't venues give out their premises for free, printing companies offer their services for free, catering companies offer free food at seminars. The banks pay the mortgage on the house that mystics live in and own..... I'm sure you will find they will all say will say the same we've got to eat, pay bills, pay a mortgage, we would love to live in a world where we could do that for everyone.
That would be excellent of course and perhaps that is possible but the banks and the various other business entities are putting themselves forward as precisely that, they are commercial enterprises there to make a profit for their owners and shareholders, they don't for a moment pretend to be anything else.
Hardly venting, and sounds like you are getting a little wound up in defense of the "mystics", they more often than not are criticised for their focus on the material rather than spiritual
One must be blind or deaf if they really think that a mystic just focuses on the material rather than the spiritual. They have to include the material aspect of life as we do live in a material world. Our body is material according to them and has material needs. So I would be weary of a teaching that didn't include an aspect of focusing on the material side of life. A teaching that purely aims at the spiritual side of life is lopsided and your material life will suffer for it and you with it.
Well that's the easy bit. You know there is no reward for that as it is your responsibility to do so, but then you know what I mean anyway don't you ?
Do you make your living from being a "mystic" too ? If not would you like to ?
No I wouldn't like to be a mystic, enlightened maybe yeah, in the sense to find out what we really are away from the many scripts we are in, as we are many things at different times and with different people we meet at different times of our lives. This for me is what is making me think, and this frantic search of reading books and going to mystics as they are talking a different talk compared to the collective. Anyhow am out of here, good luck in what you do. Was good having this chat.
Joe Miller/ American Mystic never charged for his teaching but he worked a 6 day week, was mainly invited to give talks from people who organised the events. He does mention mystics have to eat, many have a family to feed. He said he never charged for anything and even ran up a hundred dollar bill feeding some kids ice cream once. Imagine if he had to do that every other week, he wouldn't have a house to live in. And mystics do give their teachings for free at times and those who can pay, pay.
You know, I think a big part of the problem is that over the years it has become perfectly acceptable for people to charge for anything and everything, even quite "righteously" it would seem.
The whole "spiritual" thing come to a point where it is not only a good money making business but has become an industry. It has become very difficult to see who is genuine and who is not for many people and they are even taught that financial prosperity is actually important if you want to be spiritual.
I think that those who charge for spiritual teaching have missed the point by putting a price on something that is priceless (including allowing their followers to do it for them.
If someone needs food or a place to live and cannot do so by donation then they need to work like the rest of us or simply go hungry.
What's that old Buddhist saying ? Something about before and after enlightenment, chopping wood and fetching water ?

I appreciate everybody comes up with this sort of logic but it's very simple, donations.
A system of donations not only leaves it to "the Gods" so to speak but very quickly would expose the frauds, of which there are many.
This is the way the saints worked originally, they asked for nothing.
Do you not think Ramana had expenses ? Even though he himself probably had little to do with financial matters himself I imagine.

Give them away. If the message is pure then any expenses would surely be taken care of by donation also.
