During the ferry scene, where 3 thousand people are trying to board the ferry. There is no room for them, why?. Because the ferry is full of cars. What about the part where Tom is car jacked with the mob all trying to get his car. Hey the world could be ending or aliens could be terminating mankind i still won't take public transit. @Marqozat I hate people like you who make accusations and don't bother to do their research. This War of the Worlds is a remake of the same film from 1953 also based after a book. Signs, however was writen, created, and filmed in the early 2000 decade. The only thing changed about the previous War of the Worlds and this one is the use of CG, the actors, as well as the time change. As for it being copied, the only thing similar to the two movies is the use of aliens. Nothing more...

@Wolfy2k10 the viruses that we have immunity to infected them, causing the shields to malfunction (tripods are living, as they found out) and aliens were infected too.

essentially, they didn't NEED to grenade it, the infections would eventually of taken them down, the soldiers simply reacted to an opportunity.
