I think you've provided answers for some possible errors in logic but not necessarily for the concept of a sentient first cause. Your quick treatment of Judeo-Christianity and the Bible, however, does leave something to be desired. Just from reading Ezekiel today I concluded that Cherubim are flesh and blood beings just like us when many people think they're only spirits. In modern terminology they'd be biological aliens. The Bible is deep. It takes time for a proper treatment. Give it one.
@sk1ll3tfr34k P.S you're comment about his fallacies was the equivelent of a kid walking into maths class saying "I know how to do calculus already, better ask the other kids" but instead you actually don't know calculus, you just say that to draw attention away from the fact that you can't compete against intellectuals and it makes you feel inferior.
the christian god is a god of hate ,pride, envy ,jeliousy, etc.NOT LOVE, he wants his ego boosted by prayer and grovelling to him, how insecure he must be. what a failure, tyrent ,and cruel god, i cant think of anything as evil as hell as punishment for pissing him off. I could have done a lot better if i was god.judgement day would just be a film.Oh forgot ,there is no god hes just a joke
@sk1ll3tfr34k May I? Man acting "wicked" so god sends a flood not only to wipe out all man but also ALL other animals, what about the rule in the old testament that you are allowed to kill a pregnant women if she is pregnant with another man. Homosexuality is an abomination, stone unruly children, god sends a bear to maul children for making fun of an old man...need I go on?
@kly45 its called divine punishment. during the flood, God sent direct warnings of coming punishment, but they REFUSED to believe it. they got what was coming to them for their sins.
"about the rule in the old testament that you are allowed to kill a pregnant women if she is pregnant with another man."
where in the Bible does it state that? provide a reference
"Homosexuality is an abomination"
duh, how many diseases are now present because of homosexuality?
@sk1ll3tfr34k 1. Still missing my point, why did the animals deserve death? Did 100% of people sin? If not then it isn't fair that babies that did not sin were drowned to.
2. I can't find the specific part for that, I will try and find it but look up this passage which is very similar and also hateful "Genesis 38:24"
3. Something causing disease isn't equal to it being an abomination. Poor hygiene causes disease but the bible doesn't mention poor hygiene as being an abomination.
@sk1ll3tfr34k 4. you have also ignored the points about stoning unruly children and god sending bears to maul kids. Why did you ignore these?
I also want to say, if you want to be taken seriously by philosophers your attitude is all wrong. You assume things and show no respect e.g "duh". Also you laugh at Russell and ask others to point out his fallacies which is so intellectually lazy and disrespectful which is ironic for someone who is supposed to follow the teachings of Christ.
@kly45 4. i did NOT ignore them, i ANSWERED them with facts from the Bible.
"Also you laugh at Russell and ask others to point out his fallacies which is so intellectually lazy and disrespectful which is ironic for someone who is supposed to follow the teachings of Christ."
of course i laugh at Russell. for a philosophy major, his mind was definately messed up when he wrote "Why I am not a Christian". that one speech is full of logical fallacies. no it is not intellectually lazy...
@sk1ll3tfr34k Okay I see you didn't ignore them, youtube didn't notify me of that comment because it was marked as spame - probably because of the amazingly stupid and hateful things you agreed to. Again, if you want to fight a philosopher with philosophy you're going to have a hard time doing so by not addressing his arguments and calling him an idiot etc. He went to cambridge and lectured there, i don't think they would allow an idiot to to that
@sk1ll3tfr34k He was also a mathematician and a logistician - do you criticize his maths too or do you just call him an idiot for the things he said that you don't agree with? Yes you are being lazy, point out the fallacies yourself rather than jsut assume you know everything and ask others to point out. Your first comment was actually an ad hominum argument because you just called his work stupid without pointing out why. Secondly saying the bible is full of facts is circular logic -
@kly45 u can never disprove the Bible, there's way more evidence that God exists than there is against Him. if Russell was truly an atheist, why did he spend so much time talking about Christians and what they believed? he stated specifically that Christians believe in contradictory crap, and that he wanted no part in it, but he kept going on and on about it. why?
@sk1ll3tfr34k SO because someone criticises christianity it means he must think it's atually true? That is an absolutely moronic thing to say. "u can never disprove the Bible, there's way more evidence that God exists than there is against Him" you can never disprove a lot of things, you should look at Bertrand's "celestial teapot" example. We don't say things exist because we can't disprove them, we say they do because we CAN prove them, again, stupid statement
@sk1ll3tfr34k This is the problem with you, you have absolutely no understanding of what an atheist is. The only thing that qualifies an atheist is one that doesn't believe the claim that a god exists. It doesn't necessarily mean I believe god doesn't exist, all it means is that I reject your claim because you have a burden of proof. Again, actually look up the celestial teapot, Russell makes this point quite clear. So if i'm an atheist it doesn't mean I necessarily beleive in evolution
@sk1ll3tfr34k Buddhists, Raelians, humanists, nihilists are all types of atheists, yet not all of those groups believe in evolution. Secondly evolution has nothing to do with life beginining, it only describes the fact that with natural selection and variation a species will adapt to it's environment. Like always you're arguing from ignorance.. "We don't say things exist because we can't disprove them" - again, celestial teapot.
@sk1ll3tfr34k I don't know how life began, I don't claim to know how life began, all I say is that I do not know. Just because you have answers doesn't mean you are right, it just means you can't handle the fact that you don't know everything
@kly45 Also the bible is easily disproved. If noah's ark happened or that adam and eve were the first humans, it would not account for the complexity of our genes and we would all be inbred. The cheetah went through a "population bottleneck" and now they are so inbred that you could swap skin grafts with two different cheetahs and their bodies would accept it as it's own skin. Why can't humans do that? if noahs ark happened every animal would be that inbred
@sk1ll3tfr34k The Bible if full of fairy stories and is instantly disproven by archaeologists. To answer your question: Because there were hateful 'religious' people like YOU in charge of the wars and gov'ts. The Christians were decidedly 'unchristian' and throwing their heavy weight against free thinkers. That is why he continued to speak. Get it???
@windstorm1000 lol no i don't. how about showing me where archaeology has disproved the Bible? better yet, show me if there are any contradictions in the Bible. contradictions that YOU find, not those sum lazy kid posts a video about when he knows nothing. and i don't like your use of the ad hominem attack at all.
@sk1ll3tfr34k I'll give you one: there is no arch. evidence what so ever that Moses led 200,000 people across the desert to the land of milk and honey. such a crowd would have left numerous 'leftovers'--but none has been found
@windstorm1000 either the Israelites were extremely good at cleaning up after themselves or all those leftovers have yet to be discovered. no one knew the Dead Sea Scrolls existed until they were found. no one knew that dark energy existed until recently.
@sk1ll3tfr34k how about the commandment "do not kill" read the story of samson, and then try and tell me nobody was killed in the bible, go ahead and try, i cant wait to hear you rationalize this.
@anomyouscoward Give unto Cesar the things that are Cesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.
learn about Alvin York, a Sergeant in World War I. he thought war was basically murder and tried all the legal tricks to get out of being drafted. that verse I just quoted showed him otherwise. then look at the life story of Samson and why he did what he did. in all those instances, God was with him.
@sk1ll3tfr34k he killed 30 completelty innocent and unrelated people in an alley way for goss bidding and pushed down the walls of temples killing hundreds of "only evil" people, and spent 20 years after delialah dumped him whoring around and killing random people who pissed him off. that was more than a treat than i could of expected. clueless, just clueless
@anomyouscoward what do you do when you're in a war? you kill ppl. what do you do if your town is taken over by enemy troops? if someone messes with your wife, do you just sit back? when he killed those 30 men, the Spirit of God came upon him. was it bloody murder? no.
if you're being hunted by enemy troops, and they find you and you're in a position where escape is impossible, what do you do? do you surrender, or try to kill as much of the enemy as possible before being killed urself?
@anomyouscoward what was going on in the temple? did he volunteer to have himself chained and mocked? or was he a pow, looking for a chance to exact revenge on the enemy for digging his eyeballs out and torturing him?
delilah dumped him? lol i think you'd better re-read that.
i said earlier that you should read Samson's story, and i'm serious. all you're really doing is looking at one side of the picture. you're focusing on all Samson did and not on what the philistines did to provoke him
@sk1ll3tfr34k so i just re-read it and... genocide is an acceptable form of problem solving? revenge is okay as long as its in the lords name. god is an asshole.. oh wait he doesn't exist. fuck you. fuck your stupid book. your full of shit and you know it. ignored
@anomyouscoward cussing me out doesnt change anthing bud. did i say that genocide is acceptable? and what about when God says "Vengeance is mine, I will repay"? can God not act through a human?
if i was really full of crap i would have committed suicide long ago. Merry Christmas, sir.
@sk1ll3tfr34k it is, and science proves it." glad you agree with me, although it's actually logic that proves the bible is circular. "why else do archaeologists rely so heavily on it if it's always been right on the way of life back then?" Oh dear, you have no understanding of anything. MODERN science and archaeology don't rely on anything but prior knowledge, science comes to conclusions, it doesn't use a conclusion (the bible) and try to reach it
@kly45 "although it's actually logic that proves the bible is circular"
provide evidence
"MODERN science and archaeology don't rely on anything but prior knowledge"
u have ignored my statement completely. archaeology PROVES that the Bible can be trusted. archaeology has UNCOVERED the scrolls and other texts used to write the Bible.
@sk1ll3tfr34k "provide evidence" Why should I? You were the one that said you knew about logical fallacies, this is like talking to an 8 year old. Bible is true > how do we know> bible says it's true > how do we know it's infallible > because the bible is true. There, evidence of circular logic.
@sk1ll3tfr34k - which is also a fallacy. Lastly, I never said I was defending every word Russell said, all I did was point out the hate in the bible and then told you to respect peoples ideas, even if you don't agree with them. Again, i'm pretty sure Jesus was against this, you should be ashamed as a human and a "christian" or as I prefer to call you a "hypocrite"
@kly45 "I did was point out the hate in the bible"
no u pointed out certain punishments on ppl who rightfully deserved them and called those punishments hate crimes.
"you should be ashamed as a human and a "christian" or as I prefer to call you a 'hypocrite'"
why? just b/c i state my beliefs and i jump on ppl who basically worship an atheist's speech? one of the major issues of ppl today is THEY NEVER STOP TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING. that includes Russell
@sk1ll3tfr34k Despite them being punishments, punishments ARE hateful, hence there is an example of his hatefulness. "why? just b/c i state my beliefs and i jump on ppl who basically worship an atheist's speech? one of the major issues of ppl today is THEY NEVER STOP TO THINK ABOUT SOMETHING. that includes Russell"
Cntradictory, you say you have a belief, yet others should stop and think for themselves. idiot
@sk1ll3tfr34k The first thing a proper instituition will teach you about philosophy and philosophers is to respect their views, as a simple rule of the thumb: "If you think a philosopher's idea is stupid, then you don't understand their idea"
again, divine punishment. the children know the Ten Commandments, one of which is "Honor your father and mother". failure to follow the rules results in consequences.
"god sends a bear to maul children for making fun of an old man"
do u even know who that man was? by mocking him, they were mocking God.
@sk1ll3tfr34k Really so they deserve to be stoned to death? That is absolutely ridiculous do you follow this teaching yourself?. And what? God can't take mocking? if he is omniscient and omnibenevolent I think he would be able to take some mocking. Even so, these acts ARE hate-filled no matter what way you look at it. Point proved
@sk1ll3tfr34k "would ur parents be able to take it if u posted a video that mocked them? thats definately messed up if they didn't punish u in some way, right?" I never said punishment was bad, but what if my parents sent a bear to maul me? would you say that is just punishment? if so i'm done talking with you because not only are you seriously immoral but you are an idiot
@sk1ll3tfr34k "that law is now void and no i don't follow that teaching anymore. if u rebelled against your parents, would u not deserve a harsh punishment?"
WHY is that law now void? go on, why? explain to me, last time I checked it was in the same area as homosexuality being an abomination. Likewise it's in the old testament WITH your ten commandments, so how do you know the ten commandments aren't void? you are just picking and choosing what suits you. You have no mind of your own
@kly45 the ten commandments are NOT void b/c many of them were restated through the words of Christ. also, homosexuality is a sin as it creates harm to individuals, not help them. the law of the OT was in place BEFORE Christ came. once Christ died and resurrected, the law was no longer needed.
It’s unfortunate that people have been tortured or killed in the name of Christianity; e.g. Crusades, Inquisition, Protestant-Catholic Wars. However, these are actions of the Church, which is made of people, who are flawed & make mistakes. This doesn’t falsify the Christian worldview or discredit God – it just shows that people are fallen, which the Bible clearly indicates.
@wolfpack2023 I would also argue that the # of people killed in Christian-based wars, is minuscule, compared to the hundreds of millions of people killed as a result of atheistic ideologies in the 20th century.
The fact that some people who claim to be Christians don’t follow Christ’s teachings is just a reflection of humankind’s sinful state. We must ask, “Are they really Christians – followers of Christ?” Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps they are still maturing in their Christian life. There are certainly a lot of Christians that do adhere to Jesus’ teachings. The Bible describes all of these situations. The true meaning & context of Jesus’ teachings are also important to understand.
Hell exists, but it wasn’t originally intended for people. God is just, but also loving, so loving that He offers a way to avoid this Hell, through His FREE GIFT of eternal life. One just needs to genuinely receive Jesus as forgiver and leader (Rom. 10:9, John 5:24). It’s by grace that one is saved—not by works—it’s a gift of God. God has done it all for you to be saved; Jesus said, “It is finished.” (John 19:30).
@wolfpack2023 If hell wasn't made for people then why did a god create it? I'm sure you believe your deity to be all-knowing, right? So then shouldn't he have known that eventually people would inhabit hell? If God knew this then that means he did create hell for people, thus he is immoral (and you saying he didn't create hell for us is incorrect). If God didn't know that people would later inhabit hell then he isn't omnipotent, thus not worth worshiping.
@MassLiberal1 Excellent questions. God created a place (hell) for those who choose not to glorify Him. It was originally created for Satan & fallen angels, but its purpose was extended to humans, who were later created. God does have foreknowledge – He simultaneously knows all events. God is moral, since the purpose of His creation is to show His glory in all fullness, & if people choose not to glorify Him, then there is a place for them. Hell (& heaven) was created to execute true justice.
@MassLiberal1 God is omnipotent because all events are foreknown & foreordained – He did know that people would later inhabit hell. Human beings were created in His image (as free rational, moral & spiritual beings) but have misused their freedom in order to sin & thus need redemption in Christ. God is still omnipotent because our free choices always result in the execution of His will. For more info. see gotquestionsDOTorg/if-God-knewDOThtml
In the Christian worldview, evil, suffering & sorrow do exist. However, God is in the process of suppressing these & will eventually eliminate them from His followers. These things even have a purpose & will eventually work out in the end for the good. It’s all part of His redemptive plan for His people. I recommend Why The Universe Is The Way It Is by Hugh Ross, & Without A Doubt by Kenneth Samples, both of Reasons To Believe.
God doesn’t have a cause & doesn’t need one. In our universe, we have only 1 dimension of time, which is linear. The God of the Bible, however, creates independent of our dimension of time (Titus 1:2, 2 Tim. 1:9, Heb. 11:3). He has access to an infinitely long dimension of time that never touches the linear time dimension of our universe. Just think of these 2 independent dimensions of time, & you will see that God doesn’t need to have a cause. I recommend Beyond The Cosmos by Hugh Ross.
Anyway, Russell said that we shall not trust that our world is One and perfect as in the system of possibilities there can be another possibility.. so, goin that way, we can still belive that there are things, beings which may be just way advanced to our experience of existance.. so, our understanding can be right based on our senses, but it doesnt reject the possibility of other existances which we arent able to "sense" due to our limits..
The one think that amazes me is human beings come to this world from being nothing, a drops of semen, they grew up and argue like if they know something, where is Russell today where are those great knowers like bertrand. O humans you are going back to your creator one day whether you like it or not, so get ready
This man gets it! I've read this book. Twice. and I'm STILL impressed. This book brought me from being an on the fence believer, to total non-believer.
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world. For since in the wisdom of God the world through it's wisdom did not know him, God was pleased with the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 1 Cor 1:20-21
You're an idiot. No offense, its just that someone needs to bring this to your attention. You believe in religion, the biggest bullshit story in histroy. You believe in a magical sky daddy; that if you don't listen and obey him. you will spend forever in hell!...But remember. He loves you. You believe that a jewish zombie known as Jesus will forgive you of your sins if you telepathically accept him as your lord and saviour. And I'M the fool?
@J0EH3AD Infinite punishment is a choice. It means you have chosen to reject infinite paradise and the infinitie sacrifice of Jesus Christ. He died and rose so you would not have to face infinite punishment.
Debate is found to be successful only in a mutual agreement. In Russell's case, he makes statements of particular concern after which he supports by healthy logic and reasoning. If logic and reasoning are to prove inadequate in debate by way of a fallen agreement, how are we to carry a constructive argument to the limits of truth? If question, hypothesis, and conclusion are not found in both parties, debate is useless, mundane, and eventually antagonistic. In short, lets just be intelligent.
There seem to be quite a reasonable number of the "religiously inclined" throwing out slurs and attacks willy nilly at Russell.
Strangely enough, the VAST majority merely amount to emotional attacks. I dare say because he doesn't happen to believe in their flavour of deity.
Some actual rational arguments, against Russell's espoused positions would really support your views much better than childish emotional "foot stampings".
Although that said, I do feel your pain, ARE there any arguments?
The reason Russell was an average philosopher was because he rejected God. In fact, most of his philosophy does not make any sense to me. I studied it for for 4 years and got NOWHERE. I read the bible in a couple of months and it has answered my questions. Sure, I still have some questions and I do not want to force my views. Atheists are free to their views, but let me tell you, I have finally seen the light. AMEN
@MrGeorgios2020 Bible aswers your questions? Then I am sorry, you are idiot. You need bible to tell you not to kill other people? You are idiot. I dont need any gods to tell me. What about killing? Yahweh gave Moses commandments and Moses the killed 3000 people. Jesus was so obsesed with himself to threaten those who dare not to worship him with hellfire. This sound rational to you? Then you are idiot.
Wake up man. Grow up man as an adult person. You dont need this bronze age myths to be good.
@MrGeorgios2020 Amen brother. This is something you can't experience with the intellect until you experience it first with the spirit. I'm sure God is not too impressed with the "logic" of these "brilliant" men. A finite mind can not understand an infinite mind even with an IQ of 1000 or 1000000 or 10000000000000000000. I am exaggerating the IQ potential to prove a point. God designed it this way so NO MAN can brag about figuring out God's plan with his mind.
Word of advice: If one does not want to believe in something, good, one is free to do so. But if one wants to stand up against a particular belief, one should at least try to know what one is fucking talking about, lest one will come off as stupid, which is how the stuck-up philosopher will be reminded by me henceforth.
These are some of the most uninteligent, childish and pretentious arguments I have ever seen. I certainly expected more from a so-called serious thinker. Sheer charlatanism, that's what it is! Moreover, it's simply a case of prejudice against Christians based on a very poor, dogmatic and outdated cientific reasoning. His interpretation of the Bible is ridiculously vulgar. Seems to my he didn´t even read it in the first place. What sort of thinker is that?! That's why I say: charlatanism!
Mr Russell became delusional in his old-age. He refused to accept GOD as a means of protest against his parents who died when he was very young. Unfortunately years of undiagnosed dementia explain the irrationality in his arguments which lack any credibility whatsoever. He was not a bright man, simply an opiniated toffee-nosed fool who loved the sound of his own voice. He will incur the wrath of GOD for not repenting for his sins.
@KIERAN11872 MrGeorgios is simply indoctrinated by his gods. That is why he cannot see Russels arguments. For him everything is average if it does not worship his gods.
@KIERAN11872 , you're an ass licker and a miserably naive pal for believing that an IQ around 190 means anything. How idiotic and inexperienced is that! Now I see how in-depth you go with your judgment You're hopeless. Keep indulging in Mr. Russells buffooneries. I´m sure they nourish your mediocre, easily overwhelmed mind.
My heart breaks for you. You have no hope when people pass away, no hope in your own future. That must be unbearable! I will pray for you! I hope that someday, you will recieve the true love of Christ and God's true purpose will be revealed to you through the Holy Spirit. God loves you! I hope that you one day can share that same affection with him. I tell you, it will be the most rewarding feeling in the WORLD! God bless!
and suezhomekmaker, you don't believe that muslims, jehovas witnesses, pagans, all feel the same thing you do when they pray? the feeling of "god" is unique to christianity? are you sure its god, not just a natural high? o.O...
@ichis6 No religions can feel the same thing. Having a relationship with the creator of the universe is something religion can not offer. What they feel is a poor substitute for the real thing. In fact, in a way, what athiests feel is a substitute. Once you convince yourself there is no God you can feel a certain peace. The problem is the same as religion though - it will never substitute the ultimate high which is to commune with your maker.
@ichis6 Well, sir, the grammar of my question should not be an impediment for the expression of your ideas: Once more, please stop the ad hominem and begin the explication of your position. Peace!
Tp believe in god is also a way of denying your responsabilty towards others, you can always say it was god's will to whatever happens in the world. But I have become a non-believer actually studying the Bible!
Many well known real free men with knowledge were Josef Mengele&Charles manson....sorry but Russel even his brilliant mind he conceived only the academic enviroment and not the outer reality.Sorry
Russel is cheating... if there is no hell and cruelty how can a man conceive and avoid the evil functioning.....Russel divides its way of thinking in dualistic manner as good and evil...God and Absence of God e.t.c
Yeah the weapons are made by... gnomes using magic? To convince people to kill each other the leaders use any speech and lies (as Russell payed by the oligarchy), and is just that: WORDS. Someone can kill people saying that is in YOUR name... it make you guilty?? The one who kill is not christian because its against Jesus teachings. blessings.

russell was a pro-british oligarchic luciferian slave. If the intellect alone was a good thing, no scientist would create any kind of weapons. and there would be no denying Jesus philosopher if he had a healthy spirit. Blessings in Jesus.
I adore Bertrand Russell. A few years ago, when I was a steadfast Christian, he was my mortal enemy, but that was only because his weapons were so sharp. Now they are on my side, and I wonder how I ever fought against them.

Philosophy is the love of wisdom for the love of humanity. God created that love and you shouldnt be byist as a philosopher you should think that anything is posible. it seems that you are an athiest.
The word you were looking for was biased. Should I think anything is possible? No. What about contradictions? Should I favour one position over another? If the arguments and evidence come on it's side, YES. It seems you think philosophers are wishy-washy pussies who don't defend positions. I think you should reconsider what you think philosophy is.
So you are in the domain of reason alone. You need to have physical evidence in front of you. You dont have any FAITH, what it seems like. That FAITH is more important than you will ever know. And I never said that about philosophers, that was a bad judgement call on your behalf.
You keep claiming that faith is important but you never say why. That's just a bold assertion. And you did say philosopher's were not supposed to be biased, which is why I said that your view of philosophy is screwed up.
@boiscool7 Faith just means belief in something without evidence. This is not a virtue. Just because something is comforting does not make it true, and even if it were true, Jesus Christ being the son of God is not inherently moral or good.
Don't get me wrong, I'm an atheist, but I'm also a religion scholar, and your definition of faith is quite limited. It might fit some Christians of today, but faith has, historically, meant much more than that. In order to properly discuss something, you need to know the full context of the thing you are discussing. Look it up.
He does not sound like a tough grizzled old soldier but some kind of dandified Nancy boy, who spends wars at home and he is indubitably no sea-dog but the sort of pasty landlubber I have always despised. I'll warrant the most exciting thing that has happened to this limpid prawn in a whole year, was the day when he forgot to put sugar in his porridge!

YOU KNOW WHAt? WE WILL FIND OUT WHO IS RIGHT AND WHO IS WRONG WHEN WE DIE ON THIS EARTH. ITS NOT TOO LATE TO CHANGE YOUR GIVEN THE FREE WILL AND OPPORTUNITY TO CHANGE. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS OUR SAVIOR HE WILL FORGIVE YOU FOR NOT BELIEVING IN HIM DONT LET THE DEVIL TAKE YOU OVER BECAUSE YOUR HEADING THAT DIRECTION RIGHT NOW.......
@boiscool7: No I am already there; to quote Milton: "Since, through experience of this great event, In arms not worse, in foresight much advanced, We may with more successful hope resolve To wage by force or guile eternal war, Irreconcilable to our grand Foe, Who now triumphs, and in th' excess of joy Sole reigning holds the tyranny of Heaven." I join Satan anytime as this stupid Jehovah-father and his wimpy Jesus-son are unfit for state and majesty!!!
@boiscool7: Why not? Hell is defiantly the place to be: "A dungeon horrible, on all sides round, As one great furnace flamed; yet from those flames No light; but rather darkness visible Served only to discover sights of woe, Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace And rest can never dwell, hope never comes That comes to all, but torture without end Still urges, and a fiery deluge, fed With ever-burning sulphur unconsumed. Such place Eternal Justice has prepared For those rebellious"

You seem like a smart guy and you obviously like philosophy. Russell was a good philosopher in this world. Do you think he went to the right place when he dide? Im taking Philosophy now, i think many philosophers overthink some things including the faith we should have to the Lord Jesus Christ. Please do not get caught up in that.
its people like you. trying to scare people into converting. using fear to make others believe what you believe. just because you believe it, does not make it right. btw its kindof hard to be scared of something that well, frankly, i don't believe in.
I have mixed feelings about wittgenstein. On the one hand he is a really smart guy; and on the other, he can sometimes be an anti-theorist. Case in point being his "analysis" of causation.
Kick yourself some more. . .the only horror is that people continue to delude themselves with shadows of living while liberty beckons. Russell had it right that we incomprehensibly ensnare ourselves with apathy and indolence.
I have long been a great admirer of Russell's philosphical arguments and obstensively humanitarian philosophy. However, having become aware aware of his outlook on society from a political scientist's view, now view him with horror. Huxley is another of the 'Disciples' I now view with dread. Who was the singer? I have seldom heard such an effortless and liquid rendition of Ave Maria as this, and kick myself for not knowing who she is. RSVP.
thanks for your video. ill point out a few things. look up Lazareth and the rich man. Luke 16:19-34. That will explain why the wicked prosper n the weak suffer.
The fig tree, Its a symbol. Us humans are the fig tree's. Wen God comes n he sees that we dont have any good fruits we will not go with him. read matthew 7.
Now God. He doesnt have a past or present or future. He is out of time, space, matter. How can he be cantrold by somethin he made. n also God is Love He wants whats best 4 us
Lazareth story- Bringing up hell is supposed to show God has a good plan?
Fig Tree- How do we know it's symbolic? What is a reliable way to separate the Bible's literal and figurative passages?
God is Love is a vague description and is either clearly false or of no use.
I would love to know how you come to know all these facts about a timeless/matterless being though and still think you are epistemically justified in believing in them.
It's funny you mention this because this is a summary of Bertrand Russell's essay "Why I am not a Christian." Seems you have an argument to pick with Russell, not me.
Third of all. You didn't grasp the concept of evolution, wich is steered by natural selection. The features organisms gained during the evolutionary process are random by nature, however whether the average gene pool of an organism get affected by certain gene-mutations is not random at all. Natural selection is "NOT" random. A chance-argument therefore is nonsensical.
You showed me you have no understanding of evolution whatsoever. It makes no sense to discuss this with a uneducated person that lets his bias rule his opinion. You are the most biased person I know, the more ironic your name.
As I said, gen-mutations are random by nature, natural selection is not. To get a fair understanding on evolution, read a book. I suggest: "The selfish gene" by richard dawkins. If you've done that, please return and debate this issue.
you are an idiot and a liar. nothing i have said is based on bias it is based on facts that i have uncovered. and theories that i state as such. not is misrepresented and you border on isult to say other wise wihtout offering proof. ironically the biased man accuses me of being biased. this is the type of thing that get you hurt inthe real world. so enjoy it online while you can coward.
and prasing your high pirest dawkins, a man that doenst hide his bias is fitting for a fool like you
and btw the question about chance concerned CREATION not natural selection.
was our creation (or reason for existing) based on chance, or was it based on design? that is the question. not our change since, but our reason for. and our reason for can not be supported by science in an evolutionists perspective. we did not just happen to come together through chance. that is next to impossible so then;obviously..
so building off of that we have a differnt perspective.yours is faulty from the jump
The purpose for existence supported by science is a relativistic one: Our purpose is what we assign to it. That's the relativistic approach, and not a faulty one at all.
Besides, if you can't think of more alternatives then chance and creation doesn't make creation valid by default if you somehow pretend to dismiss the chance-alternative. (wich in fact you didn't).
That is a fatal error in your reasoning.
Chance/creation are not the only alternatives. You just dismiss them.
Mr.Russel was a very clever man!
And Fear IS the foundation of regigion!

@sk1ll3tfr34k May I? Man acting "wicked" so god sends a flood not only to wipe out all man but also ALL other animals, what about the rule in the old testament that you are allowed to kill a pregnant women if she is pregnant with another man. Homosexuality is an abomination, stone unruly children, god sends a bear to maul children for making fun of an old man...need I go on?
kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 its called divine punishment. during the flood, God sent direct warnings of coming punishment, but they REFUSED to believe it. they got what was coming to them for their sins.
"about the rule in the old testament that you are allowed to kill a pregnant women if she is pregnant with another man."
where in the Bible does it state that? provide a reference
"Homosexuality is an abomination"
duh, how many diseases are now present because of homosexuality?
sk1ll3tfr34k 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k 1. Still missing my point, why did the animals deserve death? Did 100% of people sin? If not then it isn't fair that babies that did not sin were drowned to.
2. I can't find the specific part for that, I will try and find it but look up this passage which is very similar and also hateful "Genesis 38:24"
3. Something causing disease isn't equal to it being an abomination. Poor hygiene causes disease but the bible doesn't mention poor hygiene as being an abomination.
kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 1. animals- they live in a fallen world. if u dont believe me, read the first 4 chapters of Genesis.
people- yes 100% of people sinned. in the beginning there were only 2 ppl. both disobeyed God, therefore, causing 100% of mankind to fall.
2. Tamar sinned, and as a result, she should pay the consequences. there is NOTHING hateful about that.
3. do u know why God forbade that the Israelites eat any type of pig? back then eating pig was bad hygeine.
sk1ll3tfr34k 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k 4. you have also ignored the points about stoning unruly children and god sending bears to maul kids. Why did you ignore these?
I also want to say, if you want to be taken seriously by philosophers your attitude is all wrong. You assume things and show no respect e.g "duh". Also you laugh at Russell and ask others to point out his fallacies which is so intellectually lazy and disrespectful which is ironic for someone who is supposed to follow the teachings of Christ.
kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 4. i did NOT ignore them, i ANSWERED them with facts from the Bible.

He went to cambridge and lectured there, i don't think they would allow an idiot to to that

kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 u can never disprove the Bible, there's way more evidence that God exists than there is against Him. if Russell was truly an atheist, why did he spend so much time talking about Christians and what they believed? he stated specifically that Christians believe in contradictory crap, and that he wanted no part in it, but he kept going on and on about it. why?
sk1ll3tfr34k 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k SO because someone criticises christianity it means he must think it's atually true? That is an absolutely moronic thing to say. "u can never disprove the Bible, there's way more evidence that God exists than there is against Him" you can never disprove a lot of things, you should look at Bertrand's "celestial teapot" example. We don't say things exist because we can't disprove them, we say they do because we CAN prove them, again, stupid statement
kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 as an atheist, how do u believe life began? through evolution? if so, u have seriously contradicted yourself through that statement.
"We don't say things exist because we can't disprove them"
what?
sk1ll3tfr34k 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k This is the problem with you, you have absolutely no understanding of what an atheist is. The only thing that qualifies an atheist is one that doesn't believe the claim that a god exists. It doesn't necessarily mean I believe god doesn't exist, all it means is that I reject your claim because you have a burden of proof. Again, actually look up the celestial teapot, Russell makes this point quite clear. So if i'm an atheist it doesn't mean I necessarily beleive in evolution
kly45 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k Buddhists, Raelians, humanists, nihilists are all types of atheists, yet not all of those groups believe in evolution. Secondly evolution has nothing to do with life beginining, it only describes the fact that with natural selection and variation a species will adapt to it's environment. Like always you're arguing from ignorance.. "We don't say things exist because we can't disprove them" - again, celestial teapot.
kly45 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k I don't know how life began, I don't claim to know how life began, all I say is that I do not know. Just because you have answers doesn't mean you are right, it just means you can't handle the fact that you don't know everything
kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 Also the bible is easily disproved. If noah's ark happened or that adam and eve were the first humans, it would not account for the complexity of our genes and we would all be inbred. The cheetah went through a "population bottleneck" and now they are so inbred that you could swap skin grafts with two different cheetahs and their bodies would accept it as it's own skin. Why can't humans do that? if noahs ark happened every animal would be that inbred
kly45 8 months ago
@sk1ll3tfr34k The Bible if full of fairy stories and is instantly disproven by archaeologists. To answer your question: Because there were hateful 'religious' people like YOU in charge of the wars and gov'ts. The Christians were decidedly 'unchristian' and throwing their heavy weight against free thinkers. That is why he continued to speak. Get it???
windstorm1000 3 months ago
@windstorm1000 lol no i don't. how about showing me where archaeology has disproved the Bible? better yet, show me if there are any contradictions in the Bible. contradictions that YOU find, not those sum lazy kid posts a video about when he knows nothing. and i don't like your use of the ad hominem attack at all.

@sk1ll3tfr34k I'll give you one: there is no arch. evidence what so ever that Moses led 200,000 people across the desert to the land of milk and honey. such a crowd would have left numerous 'leftovers'--but none has been found

learn about Alvin York, a Sergeant in World War I. he thought war was basically murder and tried all the legal tricks to get out of being drafted. that verse I just quoted showed him otherwise. then look at the life story of Samson and why he did what he did. in all those instances, God was with him.

@anomyouscoward what do you do when you're in a war? you kill ppl. what do you do if your town is taken over by enemy troops? if someone messes with your wife, do you just sit back? when he killed those 30 men, the Spirit of God came upon him. was it bloody murder? no.
if you're being hunted by enemy troops, and they find you and you're in a position where escape is impossible, what do you do? do you surrender, or try to kill as much of the enemy as possible before being killed urself?
sk1ll3tfr34k 1 month ago
@anomyouscoward what was going on in the temple? did he volunteer to have himself chained and mocked? or was he a pow, looking for a chance to exact revenge on the enemy for digging his eyeballs out and torturing him?

i said earlier that you should read Samson's story, and i'm serious. all you're really doing is looking at one side of the picture. you're focusing on all Samson did and not on what the philistines did to provoke him

Likewise it's in the old testament WITH your ten commandments, so how do you know the ten commandments aren't void? you are just picking and choosing what suits you. You have no mind of your own
kly45 8 months ago
@kly45 the ten commandments are NOT void b/c many of them were restated through the words of Christ. also, homosexuality is a sin as it creates harm to individuals, not help them. the law of the OT was in place BEFORE Christ came. once Christ died and resurrected, the law was no longer needed.

It’s unfortunate that people have been tortured or killed in the name of Christianity; e.g. Crusades, Inquisition, Protestant-Catholic Wars. However, these are actions of the Church, which is made of people, who are flawed & make mistakes. This doesn’t falsify the Christian worldview or discredit God – it just shows that people are fallen, which the Bible clearly indicates.
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
@wolfpack2023 I would also argue that the # of people killed in Christian-based wars, is minuscule, compared to the hundreds of millions of people killed as a result of atheistic ideologies in the 20th century.
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
The fact that some people who claim to be Christians don’t follow Christ’s teachings is just a reflection of humankind’s sinful state. We must ask, “Are they really Christians – followers of Christ?” Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps they are still maturing in their Christian life. There are certainly a lot of Christians that do adhere to Jesus’ teachings. The Bible describes all of these situations. The true meaning & context of Jesus’ teachings are also important to understand.
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
Hell exists, but it wasn’t originally intended for people. God is just, but also loving, so loving that He offers a way to avoid this Hell, through His FREE GIFT of eternal life. One just needs to genuinely receive Jesus as forgiver and leader (Rom. 10:9, John 5:24). It’s by grace that one is saved—not by works—it’s a gift of God. God has done it all for you to be saved; Jesus said, “It is finished.” (John 19:30).
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
@wolfpack2023 If hell wasn't made for people then why did a god create it? I'm sure you believe your deity to be all-knowing, right? So then shouldn't he have known that eventually people would inhabit hell? If God knew this then that means he did create hell for people, thus he is immoral (and you saying he didn't create hell for us is incorrect). If God didn't know that people would later inhabit hell then he isn't omnipotent, thus not worth worshiping.
MassLiberal1 1 year ago
@MassLiberal1 Excellent questions. God created a place (hell) for those who choose not to glorify Him. It was originally created for Satan & fallen angels, but its purpose was extended to humans, who were later created. God does have foreknowledge – He simultaneously knows all events. God is moral, since the purpose of His creation is to show His glory in all fullness, & if people choose not to glorify Him, then there is a place for them. Hell (& heaven) was created to execute true justice.
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
@MassLiberal1 God is omnipotent because all events are foreknown & foreordained – He did know that people would later inhabit hell. Human beings were created in His image (as free rational, moral & spiritual beings) but have misused their freedom in order to sin & thus need redemption in Christ. God is still omnipotent because our free choices always result in the execution of His will. For more info. see gotquestionsDOTorg/if-God-knewDOThtml

wolfpack2023 1 year ago
In the Christian worldview, evil, suffering & sorrow do exist. However, God is in the process of suppressing these & will eventually eliminate them from His followers. These things even have a purpose & will eventually work out in the end for the good. It’s all part of His redemptive plan for His people. I recommend Why The Universe Is The Way It Is by Hugh Ross, & Without A Doubt by Kenneth Samples, both of Reasons To Believe.
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
God doesn’t have a cause & doesn’t need one. In our universe, we have only 1 dimension of time, which is linear. The God of the Bible, however, creates independent of our dimension of time (Titus 1:2, 2 Tim. 1:9, Heb. 11:3). He has access to an infinitely long dimension of time that never touches the linear time dimension of our universe. Just think of these 2 independent dimensions of time, & you will see that God doesn’t need to have a cause. I recommend Beyond The Cosmos by Hugh Ross.
wolfpack2023 1 year ago
R.Hawkins' "God Delusion" is on similar matter...

Aglabar 1 year ago

God designed it this way so NO MAN can brag about figuring out God's plan with his mind.

spardante2000 1 year ago

That's why I say: charlatanism!
nabokovdiplomat 1 year ago
Mr Russell became delusional in his old-age. He refused to accept GOD as a means of protest against his parents who died when he was very young. Unfortunately years of undiagnosed dementia explain the irrationality in his arguments which lack any credibility whatsoever. He was not a bright man, simply an opiniated toffee-nosed fool who loved the sound of his own voice. He will incur the wrath of GOD for not repenting for his sins.

ichis6 1 year ago 5
@ichis6 No religions can feel the same thing. Having a relationship with the creator of the universe is something religion can not offer. What they feel is a poor substitute for the real thing. In fact, in a way, what athiests feel is a substitute. Once you convince yourself there is no God you can feel a certain peace. The problem is the same as religion though - it will never substitute the ultimate high which is to commune with your maker.

As long as most of the people are kept ignorant, deliberately simple-minded, and unliterate, the "stupidity", in the sense shown, will endure.
The heavy influence of what the majority thinks, in terms of their views of the world, is a trace of our society.
Iliteracy leads to corruption and serfdom. Many, if not all of islamic nations have high rates of analfabetism. So as the third world countries.

russell was a pro-british oligarchic luciferian slave.

God created that love and you shouldnt be byist as a philosopher you should think that anything is posible. it seems that you are an athiest.
boiscool7 2 years ago
The word you were looking for was biased. Should I think anything is possible? No. What about contradictions? Should I favour one position over another? If the arguments and evidence come on it's side, YES. It seems you think philosophers are wishy-washy pussies who don't defend positions. I think you should reconsider what you think philosophy is.
utubephilosopher 2 years ago
So you are in the domain of reason alone. You need to have physical evidence in front of you. You dont have any FAITH, what it seems like. That FAITH is more important than you will ever know. And I never said that about philosophers, that was a bad judgement call on your behalf.
boiscool7 2 years ago
You keep claiming that faith is important but you never say why. That's just a bold assertion. And you did say philosopher's were not supposed to be biased, which is why I said that your view of philosophy is screwed up.

I believe that Lord Jesus Christ is my Saviour that is my faith. We have our free will do what you think is right.
boiscool7 2 years ago
@boiscool7 Faith just means belief in something without evidence. This is not a virtue. Just because something is comforting does not make it true, and even if it were true, Jesus Christ being the son of God is not inherently moral or good.
Crosskeys 2 years ago 13
@Crosskeys
Don't get me wrong, I'm an atheist, but I'm also a religion scholar, and your definition of faith is quite limited. It might fit some Christians of today, but faith has, historically, meant much more than that. In order to properly discuss something, you need to know the full context of the thing you are discussing. Look it up.

How can he be cantrold by somethin he made. n also God is Love He wants whats best 4 us
reflectinglight87 2 years ago
Lazareth story- Bringing up hell is supposed to show God has a good plan?
Fig Tree- How do we know it's symbolic? What is a reliable way to separate the Bible's literal and figurative passages?
God is Love is a vague description and is either clearly false or of no use.
I would love to know how you come to know all these facts about a timeless/matterless being though and still think you are epistemically justified in believing in them.
utubephilosopher 2 years ago
It's funny you mention this because this is a summary of Bertrand Russell's essay "Why I am not a Christian." Seems you have an argument to pick with Russell, not me.
utubephilosopher 2 years ago
Third of all. You didn't grasp the concept of evolution, wich is steered by natural selection. The features organisms gained during the evolutionary process are random by nature, however whether the average gene pool of an organism get affected by certain gene-mutations is not random at all. Natural selection is "NOT" random. A chance-argument therefore is nonsensical.
DinkyDoeDoe 2 years ago

"Natural selection is "NOT" random."
do you see anything wrong with the two statements being made in the same video box? lol
unbiased000 2 years ago
You showed me you have no understanding of evolution whatsoever. It makes no sense to discuss this with a uneducated person that lets his bias rule his opinion. You are the most biased person I know, the more ironic your name.
As I said, gen-mutations are random by nature, natural selection is not. To get a fair understanding on evolution, read a book. I suggest: "The selfish gene" by richard dawkins. If you've done that, please return and debate this issue.
DinkyDoeDoe 2 years ago
you are an idiot and a liar. nothing i have said is based on bias it is based on facts that i have uncovered. and theories that i state as such. not is misrepresented and you border on isult to say other wise wihtout offering proof. ironically the biased man accuses me of being biased. this is the type of thing that get you hurt inthe real world. so enjoy it online while you can coward.

unbiased000 2 years ago
and btw the question about chance concerned CREATION not natural selection.
was our creation (or reason for existing) based on chance, or was it based on design? that is the question. not our change since, but our reason for. and our reason for can not be supported by science in an evolutionists perspective. we did not just happen to come together through chance. that is next to impossible so then;obviously..
so building off of that we have a differnt perspective.yours is faulty from the jump
unbiased000 2 years ago
The purpose for existence supported by science is a relativistic one: Our purpose is what we assign to it. That's the relativistic approach, and not a faulty one at all.
Besides, if you can't think of more alternatives then chance and creation doesn't make creation valid by default if you somehow pretend to dismiss the chance-alternative. (wich in fact you didn't).
That is a fatal error in your reasoning.
Chance/creation are not the only alternatives. You just dismiss them.
DinkyDoeDoe 2 years ago
If there exists some sort of creator, does that creator need to be conscious of what he's doing?
Or can he somehow accidently create us by chance?
Possible alternative or not? Does dismissing a chance-alternative then support creation?
DinkyDoeDoe 2 years ago
