@und3rth3bridg3 You should try to make one. It`s lots of fun and you get to have your own instrument. I do have a tutorial on Youtube. You should check out how the voicing/airway is made. That is the most difficult part. Good luck and let me know how it turned out!
Thanks! It really is a nice little instrument. You can take it everywhere.. it`s easy to learn and it sounds great. So If you want something special you should get one and practice.
You should take a look at the ocarinas that you already have and pay a lot of attention to the airway... is it all smooth? It needs to be just as wide as the soundhole... How big is your soundhole. (too big means airy notes, too small gives faint sounds in the lower regions). What is the angle of the ramp... is is almost the same as the ocarinas that you have? Is there enough space below the soundhole to make the air circulate properly?
I make the basic shape of the ocarina, then cut the ocarina in half and scoop out the inside clay... then work on the airway and holes... put everything back together and then I start fine-tuning and adjusting the things I don`t like yet. It does take some practice to get right, especially the airway and soundhole.
Thank you... The latest ones are even better... and I am still learning. The latest ones really sound great. Now I only need to get them at concert pitch, but that`s difficult if you don`t use molds.
I'd love to have one of those 10 holes- the first one was so mellow~ just it couldn't play the high notes D.=, 2nd one was awesome!~ You should have like a contest to give away a specially selected ocarina of yours- it would be awesome~ all of your ocarinas are beautifully crafted, and probably a lot of people would to like to win it- cmon try it!~
Actually I already did that a while back. I did an ocarina design challenge over a one month period, but noone entered a design, so I kept the ocarina myself, haha. I am currently making more special designs and I`ll make another update pretty soon!
Maybe this time you could get it popular with another famous ocarinist on the web. Then he/she could get the ocarina contest out and then I can get it, oops did I say that? I ment that everyone will have a fair chance and that I will win- NO! I mean I will .... Argh never mind- I want's one of your awesome ocarinas so bad, I'll go crazy XD, and uhhh where was I?
Hahah, me being an idiot- so it would be cool if you held a contest and see who would win, and I'd be happy to help =D.
Thank you for the nice comments. Making ocarinas does take some practice... especially the voicing and soundhole. If you want to try again and need some tips.. I`m willing to help you with my knowledge... just mail me.
Hee bedankt.
I really enjoyed this video. This is really good. I hope you did not break one of them at 01:41. The long face ocarina looks and sounds particularly nice. The small ocarinas are cute. I like them. The larger ones are also impressive as well. Thanks so much, Schwessie!
Thank you for the comment. The ocarinas get better every time I make one. I now have two horn shaped ones that are great. I also made a small 7-hole. That was new for me, but it sounds great. When I make some more I'll make an update video. Thanks again!
maybe you can ry tilting your head forward when playing the sweet potato ocarina
