  • Sampling can be good if mixed creatively and NOT making your song shitty so people who like the original song don't get pissed off. Daft Punk succeed at both of these!

  • WHATEVER!!! Daft Punk made it sound BETTER!!!!!!

  • this makes me a sad panda

  • Doesn't really matter, the originals of these samples sound terrible and I wouldnt have never heard them if it wasn't for daft punk. So thank you DP, you just made 3 or 4 nobody bands into a dance/techno classic

  • Sampling is also an artform!

  • keep pressing 7 and he'll keep saying superheroes

  • Every Artist Today Copies Older Generations of Artists. It's called evolution :3

  • Well they might take the samples from those guys who we never heard of em but they made em new and transformed em to something more appropiate to our century.

  • @LAGOZY ...Actually, sampling is pretty easy, and they didn't just sample a guitar riff or drums, they sampled whole sections of songs. Not hard.

  • @Goldbloodeddragon

watch this video and then tell sampling is easy: /watch?v=NZboBQ6rDrU&feature=related

  • @Goldbloodeddragon right the sampling aint hard .. but its hard to find the right sample and see the potential in em !

  • EVERYONE WATCH THIS VIDEO YOU WILL UNDERSTAND HOW AWESOME DAFT PUNK ARE: /watch?v=NZboBQ6rDrU&feature=related

  • @LAGOZY they are awesome

  • @bubbalance1

    yeah =D

  • LOL EVERYONE WHO SAYS DAFT PUNK SUCKS FOR SAMPLING CAN GO FUCK THEMSELFS.

FIRST OF ALL SAMPLING IS NOT THAT EASY AS IT SEEMS, ITS NOT LIKE DAFT PUNK LOOPS A SAMPLE AND MAKES A 5MIN SONG OUT OF ONE SAMPLE....NO! THEY ADD ALOT OF THEYRE OWN ELEMENTS. ALOT OF THEIR MUSIC IS ORIGINAL. AND LETS NOT FORGET THEIR MUSIC STYLE IS "FRENCH HOUSE" WHICH IS A MUSIC GENRE WICH CAN BE ONLY MADE FROM SAMPLES.

*SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH* DAFT PUNK 4EVER BITCHES.

  • @LAGOZY actually, french house can be made without sampling. its just really uncommon, but if an artis knows how to make funk or disco music by computer, can also make french house without sampling.

  • @takeshiShudo check out Madeon, for french house without samples.

  • @LAGOZY Actually, french house can be done without sampling, but its not really common, i mean, if the musician knows how to recreate disco, funk or new wave in the computer.

  • @LAGOZY you're right, look at the prodigy and their "smack my bitch up" -> totally new song, amazing creativity, daft and prodigy rock :)

  • @LAGOZY Your Right Bro Sampling is a big part within the music industry everyone has done it even the artist that we listen to now sample you just have to get permission to use it and pay the person who originally created the song back for using their work everyone who say that sampling is stupid the go to hell thumbs up if anyone agree's with me!!!! Daft Punk Is The Best!!!!!!!!

  • its not bad that there sampling everyone does it in every genre its that they do nothing to it they dont switch nothing flip anything chop anything its just a loop no wonder they wear helmets so if they ever get caught in a milli vanilli situation they can just start a newband without you knowing who they are

  • lol funny thing is modern djs/producers do this ALL THE TIME and this is nothing new. i swear do you people listen to EDM at all? lol

  • @majthomp but they often add enough filters to make it sound different. not in Daftpunk's case ;)

  • Still love them

  • pfff my respect for Daft Punk started to drop, not that they sampled but they barely bothered to tweak the sample, just modifying the pitch -_-,compare this shit with what liam howlett from prodigy did, he samples too but he gives the sample a life of its own you could barely recognize from what song it is.

  • It's ok to take samples but couldn't they refer to them such as "release the beast(daft punk remix)"

  • I just want to clarify that I own all of Daft Punks albums. In the back of the cover art with the album of "Discovery" they give credibility to these artists. And in a press release they admitted that Discovery would have more funk and disco roots, and MANY samples from the early 60's and 70's. Daft Punk is what brought House to the mainstream and they're beyond amazing.

  • @SireLeMarticles House?

  • So what, why don't you take any samples from any song or songs you like, and try to make something nearly as good as Daft's songs?

  • I ALWAYS LOVE THIS VIDZ! THANKS MAN!

  • Third daft punk pic on the right...

    Robots

  • What the hell.. have they ever done more than just boost the volume of a sample? I much prefer producers that can chop and flip a sample, incorporating it with their own music. But props to them on finding stellar samples: it's not as easy as it sounds.

  • No shit, but u have to love them anyway :)

  • you'd be surprised how much of todays music does exactly this

  • Old School = Foundation

  • they are djs at first, so they have the rights to do this, also because the songs are a little old

  • @Domyzel They had the rights to do this

  • wow after watching this video its made me love daft punk so much more! thanks for the post

  • @The420jay420 yeah me too man

  • its daft punk? I think they're allowed to do this...

  • everything is a remix

  • @SpikeTheSpiker Sampled...

  • Merci

  • I honestly don't care that much about how similar they are to the originals. I went and listened to the originals, and confirmed that DP took each one and improved it. Little tweaks and stuff is what they did, and it worked in my eyes. DP forever!

  • They have never on all their albums credited anybody whose records they sampled ,even going as far as denying they did so !

  • prepare for 9gag

  • woah i mean this is just pure stealing, no offense but even a newbie producer knows that the whole point and fun about sampling is to flip it so peeps are like "woah he used that, it doesnt even sound like the original" daft punk just looped it and didn't do anything notable with it

  • Comment removed

  • I thought they were gods, but now I know that they are human, after all

  • maybe they dont make original songs, but those who made that originals WERENT ROBOTS WITH SMOKINGS! xD seriously: i prefer daft punk, they are dj, dj make remix, the best of daft punk is when they do remix with some songs of them (as harder better faster stronger with arround the world, etc.)

  • lol dafk punk remixed it for example pendelum remixed'd voodoo ppl best tune

  • yeah is a kind of remix, dj-s do that a lot :)

  • thumb's up if your like me ( FUCK NO )

  • i really think you should start putting some good vids on youtube these vids are just pointless you have just changed the pitch or tempo on all the songs daft punk are original

  • @parsleygremlin lol wat?

  • Djs are supposed to mix songs

    Deadmau5 makes his own

  • @Taeytaey13 you can thank Daft Punk for people like Deadmau5 and Skrillex.. i love both of them but if it was not for Daft Punk the previously mentioned artist never would have been heard of

  • @noodalar "Deadmau5 was inspired at the age of 13. He liked listening to Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, Radio Head, and Thom Yorke. "

  • @GrimLP and what I'm telling you is that if it wasn't for Daft Punk's Cooney Island Concert , and their light show (with their pyramid i might add... huh kinda similar to deadmau5's cube.) then electronic music would have remained unground like it had been for 20 years. So I'm sure Deadmau5 was inspired by other people THAN daft punk, but if it wasn't for Daft Punk electronic music would have remained in the euro clubs

  • @Taeytaey13 That would be because Deadmau5 is a producer, not a Dj...big difference and it's not mixing, it's sampling, mixing usually involves turntables.

  • Daft punk is horribly over-rated in my personal opinion.

  • @GrimLP well no one asked you. so stfu.

  • @nataku7 Oh, I'm sorry, I wasn't aware I needed some little punk weebo to give me permission to voice my opinion. Why don't you go film some more drawings, moron.

  • @GrimLP Sorry I didnt jump on the lets play bandwagon like you.

  • @nataku7 lol, was that supposed to be an insult? Ha.

  • @GrimLP I'm just saying you have pointless videos too.

  • Fucking hipsters... the style of Daft Punk is called Indie Dance NU DISCO!!

    NUUU!!! > NEO > NEW!!!

    DISCO > DISCO WAVE!!!

    Remaking the Disco Era...

    Gosh Fucking people...

  • They're DJs, they're supposed to do this...

  • My respect for Daft decreased by 10

  • When i sample songs together they all sound like: "ASJAKSNDIUNAUWIRVNWDHIOWADWAUIODH", when Daft Punk does it, its sounds like "harder, better, faster, stronger"

  • the

  • This is soooo tight! I had no idea that Daft Punk was the robotic cousin of hip hop!

  • I see this mostly as a way to tribute old artists that would be forgotten otherwise

  • For all those who say its just sampling and not talent I shall await your next chart topping smash now you know how it's done..... Please show some respect to musicians regardless of what they use to make their noise!

  • You guys say Kanye West stole stronger but daft punk sampled all these songs.

  • What's the last song by daft punk in the vid called??

  • I understand that DJs sample and shit like that... but these samples make up 90% of the songs that they make. People call them musical geniuses when in 80% they just loop a sample they didn't make and add a drum beat/vocal line they got from somewhere else. Then you listen to someone like Kanye West, who gets a sample like "21st century schizoid man" and turns it into something else entirely.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be in a club with DP playing, but they're not musical geniuses.

  • I'm just glad we kept the Barry Manilow to a minimum :P

  • dont be a fucking liar yes the songs r almost the same but they r not stealing they r creating and modifying

  • This song gives me a boner its so good

  • This is not stealing, this is culture.

  • @LazyPinguin You're right, it's not stealing, but it is a let down. Still lovem though.

  • @LazyPinguin it's stealing

  • @griesrt

its sampling, not stealing. thousands of artists do it.

  • @LazyPinguin No. It's stealing. The fact that people have to hunt to find these samples, and there's no record of Daft Punk ever giving attribution, makes this stealing. I mean, daft punk is good, but main chunks of their music that most people love them for are actually made by other people. They need to address this.

  • @gaaratoast no they don't. it's a remix. your copyright argument is invalid.

  • @gaaratoast Actually, I'm pretty sure they have given credit. Also, sampling does not equal stealing.

  • @gaaratoast They're credited in the album notes....

  • they are djs......

  • i wonder were daft punk is now... cuz they to start making music already

  • This is what djs do, SAMPLE. They are not producers, they are djs.

  • daft punk are dj they take old tunes and make them better there great!!!!!!!!!!

  • holy shit i've been living a lie

  • @Messtevan I too o.O

  • So you take three seconds from a song and put your own personal twist on it and suddenly it's a crime? That's a shitty world. Where every single note has to be original for you to be impressed. Well guess what, music's been around for a lot longer than you have. All these guys want to do is share what they've heard and you haven't.

  • Its bcuz they sample they're the best today at what they do, they mix the old 70´s - 80´s funk with futuristic sounds and technology, and even in the songs they dont sample u can hear that they´re inspired by those songs and genres. they r known for funk and the funk was as its best at the 70's so its not odd that they sample, its genious... oldschool mixed with newschool!

  • Daft punk is the shit. PERIOD

  • um yea when they made the discovery album they tried to make the whole album using almost exclusivily samples, so yea i give em props for making it sound like an strawberry and oreo milkshake!

  • Hm, a little dissapointed. Wouldn't exactly call this sampling, I think because a lot of people do it these days people are a little confused at the definition. As long as the original artists got paid then it's all good. More than can be said for Timberland...

  • Since when was it a crime to re-arrange older music and sounds and create new music, while giving credit on their albums for the samples? It's not like they're blatantly ripping off an artist's work and giving nothing back.

This is what a DJ does. This is what musicians do.

  • hey do you think this will lead anyone to on and check out and dig George Duke and the other kings of jazz fusion? I doubt it

  • @emile235 lead me on to check some things out, so guess it worked after all :)

  • It actually makes them bad. It almost sounds the same.

  • This just makes me like them more.

  • whoa ... i love daft punk but this is a little ridiculous. LOLd hard @ theyre djs its what theyre supposed to do

  • idgaf if they use samples bt daft punks music will last thru ages

  • wow, its really weird listening to the originals because you start humming the daft punk songs... then you think , ohhh.

  • "The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources." - Albert Einstein

  • Why else do you think they hide their faces!!

  • this video *is* a little slanted in fairness... showing the more 'greedy' samples daft punk have taken. They do a lot of layering (recreating synth patterns, adding to the original) and the way they produce is amazing. Many people try to copy their techniques in videos on here for example and don't come close. The problem is people just assume they made every beat and keystroke, then get upset when they learn otherwise. Many producers don't.

  • this isnt sampling

    this is called looping

    .. personal preference

i feel theyve are an icon youve elected and dont deserve it

  • @KyleNavares something like "one more time" i can understand.. they actually created something... but "robot rock"... im just like..... really...?? didnt change one fuckign thing... and claim its yours?

  • @KennyParkz i agree man.

  • Look how much people here praise the use of sample, and now go look at the comments on kanye west stronger video.... There is a problem is you ask me.... People think it's ok here, but it's not oke for kanye... shame

  • @kari801 People are upset because they feel Kanye is getting the credit for Daft Punk's sampling.

  • @kari801 Kanye didn't sample this, he just sang over a slighly slowed down version of the entire song. I call that Karaoke. But anyway, he got permission to do it. So it's all good.

  • @ddubs123 You must be kidding me right? listen to the sample daft punk used, it souds quite similar is you ask me...

  • @kari801 I think you should reread my comment. That's what I said.

  • @ddubs123 Except it was aim to kanye only... I just hope that what you think about kanye, you think it about daft punk too.

  • @kari801 I may be a punk but your daft.

  • I have lost a lot of respect for daft punk. There is a fine line between sampling (this of which is very heavily sampled work) and plagiarism, i feel this definitely crosses the line. I am all up for sampling and many DJ's do it well, it can be done creatively and still be very original, this on the other hand is not. It's not even like the previous artists are credited and their music seems to be the main body of daft punks apparent best work.

  • That counts, it's the way you make things and the way you express yourself and also respect. If i for example made a painting and I sold it and then someone saw it made a copy of it and sold it for even more then that is pretty mutch a fraud or copyright infringement.

  • In a way I kind of lost most of my respect for these guys. I mean alot of people are standing up for them saying they are sampling and that they are making the songs better. Well, firstly, they are not sampling, sampling is when you for example take a drum loop or a single note/sound from something else, not the "entire" song. And they can't call the songs their own they can however call these songs remixes or covers. And there are rules applying to art it's not just the finished product-

  • They didn't steal these songs, they made them better

  • Really disappointed :( hopefully they haven't sampled "one more time" or " around the world" from anyone

  • @doncorleaaron one more time was sampled

  • @doncorleaaron oh.. one more time is ALL samples loll the horns at the start..is just manipulated by pitch. the vocals are theirs tho.. i actually dont mind that one because they made somehting new out of it....

  • u just slowed it down....

  • @zenlikestate96 Your just retarded

  • you know your famous when a video about where you got samples from has 3.3 million views

  • but when kanye samples daft punk ..daft punk fans went insane smh

  • They don't try and cover up the use of these samples, which is good. They just make awesome modern versions of these songs.

  • the good thing with daft punks samples is they sampled tunes that most people had never heard of, or hadn't heard in a long time.

  • it´s amazing how daftpunk turns shit into gold...

  • my god daft punk are shit, other artists sample only a tiny portion of a song yet daft punk have literally copied the whole thing.

  • These samples make up like 2% of their songs so its hardly a full song. I mean if i heard that part from George Duke i would want to use it as a sample.

  • To everyone saying Daft Punk "steals" music from others...

    Welcome to electronic music.

  • whats the song at 0:31? The daft punk version?

  • @DaftAnimeFreak Crescendolls

  • @DaftAnimeFreak crescendolls its one of the best songs on 'discovery' in my opinion, wich is saying a hell of alot

  • WHAT IS THIS!?!?!?!

  • A) Never, ever, call "sampling", stealing because it's NOT! It's creative.

    B) They're DJs, it's what they're supposed to do.

    C) Daft Punk are so effing talented because sampling is not as easy as you all think.

    D) Don't agree with that? Die. Daft Punk = legends.

  • @xXashleytfaanXx there is a difference between sampling and flat out taking an entire song and calling it a SAMPLE.

  • Nobody read the liner notes in Discovery?

  • lol everyones crying over them using samples? so what other producers do you like? deadmau5? the prodigy? 99% chance any one of them have used samples before.. its no big deal, its not "stealing" its just recycling as such. its jsut what they do.

  • The majority of electronic music is sampled, chill the fuck out n00bs

  • You guys are overreacting.

THEIR DJ'S FOR CHRIST SAKES, OF COURSE THEY USE SAMPLES FROM OTHER SONGS, IT'S WHAT DJ'S DO.

    Seriously, no fucking surprise here.

And this certainly doesn't make Daft Punk bad.

  • @SkullSyker mmmm daft punk aren't DJ's. They're a band. They don't DJ. they put on live shows which mix all their own tracks with loads of technology and equipment. They actually aren't all that good at DJing. From the rare videos I've seen of them trying to Dj they are terrible. there's a video of thomas bangalter trying to DJ with busy P and DJ mehdi but he hasn't got a clue how to sue the thing or how to mix. He just plays one track after another. Plus their music is well thought out.

  • @Asianbeard Well I'll be damned, you're right.

    Touché, Asianbeard..

  • @SkullSyker yes it does, they just looped that shit

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • When it comes to art, no rules apply.. you guys forgot that? You have to look at the finished product. If it was as simple as you all seem to think to make all these amazing tracks and to be loved the world over then everyone would do it. I produce electronic music myself and if anything I find working with samples harder. When im playing on my Keyboards and synths i can change and rewrite every note as I like. People dont sample to steal, its using recordings that have a vintage quality to them.

  • Of course they used samples from other songs they're DJs. Daft Punk still has my full respect they made these songs their own. Still #1 in my book.

  • Like I say....Daft Punk is vastly overrated.

  • Wow, 0 respect ...

  • Ediwin Birdsong Cola Baby Bottle sample Harder Better Faster Stronger

Geroge Duke I Love You More sample Digital Love

Anthony and the Imperials Can You Imagine sample Crescendolls

Barry Manilow Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed sample Superheroes

Breakwater Release The Beat sample Robot Rock

  • When you think about in almost every Pro Dj have used other song and made them their own. Be truthful who has ever actually heard any of those songs before watching this video? Daft Punk have made loads more songs THEMSELVES. It is VERY hard to make your own song especially with this genre of music.

  • Comment removed

  • That's the whole point of being DJs. They are great at spotting and re-using nuggets to create something much better (or at least more modern) than the original. I couldn't do what they do, so mad props!

(Btw: photographers take photos of things that already exist; film makers film things that already exist, ...)

  • Sampling is an art form. Artists didn't invent colors but they use them to create there own works of art...

  • @djjessebrooks Exactly ! I like what you said !

  • @djjessebrooks That's not the same, colors are more comparable to notes and paintings are more comparable to songs.

  • @suicideposter I agree with you. That was a very good way of putting it. I still do believe that sampling is an art form. It's not as easy as some people might think to transform a riff into an anthem. Thanks for that reply!

  • @djjessebrooks not a valid comparison.. colors to artists=/= songs to musicians. art to artist=songs to musicians*****

  • you people obviously dont understand what french house is huh

  • ...At least they have good taste in music. :)

  • wow i lost alotta respect for daft punk after seeing this D:

even tho they are gods, i thought it was all original

  • @INSULTINGKLOWN I understand, but I just dont like the fact that I belived them to be good just to find out they were remixing other ppls music. It makes them less valuable in my eyes atleast.

  • So you read the linear notes to an album and act as if you're uncovering some great conspiracy? Good one.
