Ah, I see what Tim did here. He used parts from Zach Barocas drum riff in "Reel" by Jawbox & used it in the second drum rhythm in "My Life As A Housewife". Definitely one of my biggest inspirations. BTW, killer job on the cover man. I bet few can pull that off w/ ease. Not too many drummers floating around of that caliber
Hey Tim! Thanks. Re: being bummed at full completion. I don't think many people understand that on YouTube here :/
I guess the ripping off thing seems like something, but lemme tell ya, take full credit for this friggin' compositon. Drums are pretty exciting when only a few people sit down at the kit IMHO
At the risk of sounding like a complete psychopath, I don't think I actually liked any drummers for the same reasons I would like guitarists or trumpeters until I heard the "Lula" record
Not bad, dude. Have to say, I'd be a little bummed if you could nail it after only an hour and a half. I had to re-learn that song for the finale gig in KC and it took me awhile to figure out what the hell was going on. And I came up with the shit! That song was mostly me ripping off Zac Barocas from Jawbox. Glad you dig it, tho.
the part after 2:49 is so awesome. i love how it's switched up a little there and sounds behind-the-beat. ...just sounds so HUGE!! good work pal, thanks for posting!
I got a video up of my old band recording at great western record recorders (Matt Talbot's studio) He engineered the record and we even got him to sing on one whole song. It was back in 2002. We wanted to record there because that's where "the egg" was recorded and obviously because we would be working with Matt freaking Talbot for about a month. Anyway... thought it might be worth checking out. (try to find my Gerken rip-off beat) hahaha... um.. I mean Gerken "tribute beat"
@madamorgan Ha! Your responsible for one of the best hardcore records of all time. That's a friggin riot man! I have listened to the Satellite Years a lot! and for a pretty damn long time.
My friends and I inevitably talk about that record whenever the topic of "the good stuff" comes up. The "good stuff" is music that is the real fucking awesome stuff. I mean I don't like putting stuff like this on Youtube but y'all done help defined the sound of 2000's hardcore. THUMBS UP!
@lordofendsville Dude! I love that hopesfall shared some of the same fans as Shiner!! That makes me feel like we must have been doing something right all those years. Thanks for all the kind words. I love meeting people who share my intense love for Shiner. As much touring as we did, I probably only met about 20 people that had ever heard of them. These guys never got the recognition that they deserved. I might have to do mine own little Tim Dow cover and throw it up here. We'll see.
@madamorgan SHO DID! Man I have actually been practicing to 'Play Dead' lately so go figure. I will probably post it up after two videos on the way so like sit tight or something man.
TBH I don't think there have been many drummers as completely mesmerizing and fucking nut crushing as those two. Chris "Magical Jaguar Attack The Life And Times" Metcalf comes close but, meh, not that close. Thanks.
kinda fell apart there at the end but an otherwise great attempt at some insane drumming. tim dow is a beast. If you make another attempt or get the end down you should upload it, i'd love to see more covers of shiner tunes.
@wooofums yeah dood! Me too. Gotta wonder why there aren't more Shiner things on youtube i guess.
I do have the ending down, it's just that when I have only booked an hour in the practice studio I guess it just bared down on me or whatever. If I re-record it will be for another purpose. In fact I am not sure I want to ever perfect it because even if I did I hain't no Tim Dow. Or Jason Gerken for that matter. I edited the shots for a reason I guess. PLUS Shiner is a helluva band!

@madamorgan YEEEAAAAAHHHHH! Do it. Man, CHRIST SIZE SHOES...

YES!! Finally someone that recognizes the musical genius that is shiner!!
Great cover man! That has got to be the trickiest song on Lula Divinia. You should try some Gerken shit though. How about "play dead" off the egg?
Have you heard of The Stella Link? They were another great KC band... especially if you're a drummer.
