@arnaud360 ...Fair play to ya...Good, no, make that GREAT music has no shelf life...Im delighted to see there are young people who are getting as much from this music as i did when i was was in my teens....
When David Jackson quit VdGG I was disappointed that violinist Stuart Gordon did not join the band. Stuart has done such a great job on Peter Hammill's solo albums and live performances over the years and I'm certain that he would have much to contribute to VdGG. He's also a strong melodic soloist and that's what the band lacks at the present time. Also the violin has worked well for Van der Graaf in the past; fans will remember Graham Smith's fine work.
@insensiblegradations I remember Stuart from when I lived in Bath. I think his lady was a girl called Gaynor, who worked at Crescent studios, who also waited at Tranter's Seafood Restaurant, where I was chef. Stewart played around with different bands then. Even XTC, who recorded at Crescent.
David Jackson was always the strongest soloist in VdGG and the new trio is a good band but lacks the extra bite that Jackson brought to VdGG. It's a crying shame that he fell out with the others and is unlikely to return.
@insensiblegradations ... I totally agree, the band needs Jackson for the musical timbre that makes VDGG what it is. I've watching videos without him and it's like ordering a pizza without cheese. I suggested getting a large group of fans to sign petitions to help reconcile issues or help raise some money to help Jackson has always complained about. This is probably one of the most musically rich, trippy and philosophical bands on earth and should be supported by government if needed.
I saw them at the London RFH reformation gig in 2005. Wonderful. Then I saw them again a few years later after Jackson left and I agree, not the same. And Trisector the album was pretty poor. Superb band, but bring back Jaxon!
25 years ago Peter Hammill went in Turin (Italy) to play in the Colosseo Teather. I was there and i wonder that there were more or less thirty people in all the teather. Italian people do not appreciate this kind of singer. Hammill really is an excellent singer.
@alexagosto1962 Seriously, here in San Diego Cal., I thought I was the only one that ever heard of this band,,, and loved it. In my various contacts with what I thought were true music lovers I'd ask them if they ever heard of VDGG, not one replied yes. I'd of course offer the idea to get Godbluff and try out that Arrow.
@chrisguygeezer: Yeah, never underrated. In fact, I would say that those who listen to VdGG would rate them quite highly (no pun intended!). I know I do. I saw them last year in chicago, and as a 30 something year old, it was, truly, a dream come true. They had incredible energy and even w/o Dave Jackson were stunning to see live!
No they were never underrated, they had a select audience who just adored them, and still do. They had a niche all to themselves, timeless with the their brand of jazz-prog music. I so hope Jackson gets back sometime, cos they don't quite cut it without him
I would love to see them at Glasto before they just don't want to do it any more.
I can't understand why thy have this magnetism for me, but they just are such class.
this kind of class is not for those who want, but for those who can...
incredible band... probably one of the most underrated bands of all time, with one of the best formations and one of the great lyricists and thinkers of music
incredible stuff, it disturbs me how great bands like this can fly completely under my radar.. good thing I have youtube, a bottle of wine, and nothing to do.. =)
The comments below praised already. But it can't be repeated enough: PHENOMENAL performance of VdGG's classic. Good sound quality and interesting "portrait"-style camera.
Peter !!!! Merci à celui qui a posté cette vidéo !!!!!!VDGG le meilleur groupe du monde et peter le plus fou et fantastique chanteur/songwriter du monde !!!

Governments support symphonies with cultural funds, why not support authentic artist like VDGG who have not sold out to commercial industry.
