@moonlightkagomefan The mayans were on an entirely different continent from greece -slow facepalm- they were near south america. NEAR the Aztecs and Incas. =_= NOT greece
This was my ABSOLUT FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME I used to stay up late and watch it with ma Daddy every tuesday and saturday...i wash i could still do that but ma lil' sis came...
In real life, the conqiztadors (Spanish Troops) did find a city made of gold in 1519. But the Conqiztadors looted all the gold and burned the city to the ground. The Conqiztadors found El dorado while General Henary Courtes and about 500 Conqizadors were on thier way to Mexico City. The real city of El dorado wasn't made of all gold like the movie says. But it did have lots of golden things like, weapons, julery, dishes, walls, tables, etc.
Brings back memories of childhood the Native Americans thought the Spaniards when they came to south america and modern day United States were gods even though the city of gold is just myth. The Spaniards coming to the Americas is true though. Cortes was not necessarily a good person as I would understand but times were different. Some people don't understand also why some Spaniards had blond hair and blue eyes.
@dawoof4ever Well technically, The City of Gold was in fact real though because the Spanish looted so much gold, the city isn't there any more. Though, saying it was made from actual gold could be simply a misunderstanding like how immigrants heard that in America, the streets were paved with gold. Also, Sebula was, in Native American, also seen as a City of Gold so I believe there is some truth and it isn't completely a myth.
well really not a mythical city because i remember seeing a documentry saying they found the city but the thing was there was no gold it was just three land marks but u can correct me if u want too.
@KaitiLuvsU13 Specifically, El Dorado was the Spanish name for a Muisca king who would supposedly cover himself in gold dust, later reimagined as a city of gold.
@KaitiLuvsU13 Well It's kinda,The city Might be made up but El Darodo really represents the Aztecs and how the spanished pretended to be Gods and take all the gold but in a more brutal way ( wars I mean) I might be wrong. anyway its an wonderful movie.
@KaitiLuvsU13 Yea, if it was real we would have found it with all the deforestation. But we havnt, and if it was real the forests would have taken over it like in other ancient citys. If it was real, i doubt it is still today. :( Would have been a great archeological find :(
@MultiDocdoom Not necessarily. There are still alot of places in South and Central America and Central Africa with very thick rainforests that are difficult to navigate without a native guide. I believe that there are still mysteries waiting for us in there. Cities of gold, doubtful, but maybe living dinosaurs.
@dawoof4ever It's wierd cause El Dorado was portrayed in many ways but it was a city of gold but El Dorado was actually a giant statue with the god's on it. Another thing is that it was a tomb for a king.
But as i said it is portrayed in many ways, and this is really a top movie!
@Darkfigure101 Well the actual El Dorado was the king who i forget how often used to sail into the middle of this lake with priests covered in this sap and gold dust and other golden items and he threw the gold into the lake and dipped in himself.
Btw does anyone know if there is any difference between el dorado the city and cibola?
2 people have never been to El Dorado.

@dawoof4ever Well it's a mystery yet to be solved, kinda like Atlantis.
Avatar230594 6 months ago
@dawoof4ever In addition - it was slightly based off Aztec Civilisation - which is why Cortez was moseying around that area.

@KaitiLuvsU13 it could be a real city
cause it was known as a city of gold or rather treasure
the Mayan's treasure wasn't gold but instead knowledge
so instead a city of gold it was a city of knowledge
