Offside is only given if you pass forward to a team-mate, not backwards. There's no real "why" in it, except that it would be stupid not to employ the rule. So if you're past the opposition's defense you must be on your own? Why would that be a rule?

I guess the defending team here was resigned to the fact that they were loosing badly and didnt bother running into the penalty area as Ajax took the penalty. This is perfectly legit.

@Tomid Read up on the rules. The only rule in a penalty kick is that the ball must be kicked forward. That's it. The taker has no obligation to kick it at goal. Cruyff kicks it forward and his teammate runs to get it.

Of course you don't see this happening all the time because it's a risky move as the defenders will immediately run in once the kick is taken. Much safer to just try to score. However given the final score I assume Ajax were already well up on the scoreline and wanted to rub it in
