This type of plasma has been in existence since the 70's and is known as Plasma Jet Ignition. Jet being a reference to shaping the plasma burst by the geometry of the ignitors. For those commenting on the extension cord, please use your common sense if you can. it is called a TEST! The whole thing can be run from a battery powering an off-the-shelf CDI unit and with the diodes placed in the proper place, can give you the plasma. The timing is delayed a bit towards TDC and the jet is turned all the way in and we can get full power on simply the idle jet - meaning at full power it is practically running on fumes.
From the comments, it is obvious there is lack of understanding about plasma jet ignitions so go do your research! They can dramatically extend the lean burn limit of any ICE and this plasma instantly dissociates water on contact meaning it doesn't have to be dissociated by electrolysis first! This ignition does not take any more power to run than a CDI, which isn't much and the gains are phenomenal. Anyone that didn't do the experiments should keep comments to themselves.
This method creates a negative resistance effect where the impedance the capacitor sees upon discharge is completely removed. Take the equivelant cap and scope it then do the same under these conditions and you see that 2/3 of the cap discharge virtually instantaneous - this is where the gain is coming from - the negative resistance - there is not just a power gain in the time domain, there is an effective gain in work done - doesn't matter to me who believes it or not.
As far as the relay goes, arcing is irrelevant as it is only a proof of concept and simple way to LEARN the method as someone correctly observed. In real application, you won't use a relay, yu use a CDI or MSD modified with the diode - so you can get high speed and it looks like this youtube video: watch?v=gqfY-SKCSoU (mosfet triggered msd) the relay is good for simple bench test LEARNING to study the effect and see the relationship between the effect & different capacitor sizes

Paul, get a HV oscilloscope probe and an oscilloscope to go with it and take a look at the waveform of the pulse... I think you will quickly see and understand what you've got going on there.
so basically you are replicating what an engine would do with the relay, variac, and the rest of your components? Does this mean one would only need the blocking diode on the ignition coil to enable the spark plugs to work with modified injectors that supply hho to the cylinder? Why don't we get some measurement of input power? If we can understand how many watts the input circuit is drawing we can compare against the thermo joules being released by the water.... I suspect unfortunately you will find you are losing power overall... however this experiment does not factor in the effects of vacuum in the cylinder. Perhaps the water dissociates more easily in a vacuum?
Could you crank the power right up and put a 2mile gap between the electrodes and by making sure there was several old peoples homes in between the electrodes it should be possible to vaporize atleast 2000 old biddies per day!! that will help the economy pick up a bit sooner!! anyway have you ever had the misfortune of having a hole in your teapot the size of 3! yes 3 boggles!!! its very annoying...
There is a way to achieve strong high voltage spark without high voltage diode. The circuit must look like car ignition system. To achieve that you'll need two high voltage capacitors rated for high discharge currents connected across relay contact on primary side.
I have no idea how it will affect plasma, but it will give even, strong and reliable spark.
That modification will prevent arching on relay contacts.

I tend to agree, havn't we invented the spark plug already? Its running off a mains variac, and producing a greater spark when you add water...
Stanley Meyers "spark plug" actually split the excited H2O molecules in the chamber.
It doesn't look like plasma? You are creating an HT arc that even jumps right off the plug and on to the wet paper... Why is this important?
