yo yo yo. so what if i want to use vm fusion to get my 2008 macbook pro up to 8 gigs of ram, would i have to change settings for it to know i have 8 gigs of memory on my mac osx and windows so i could have the ability to use windows 7 64 bit and osx

??? please any advice would help, if needed automotive advice is on deck.

Ya Linux and Windows both can run vmWare Player

VirtualBox is better and it's free. Linux has have VirtualBox for years...

Linux also has CrossOver, and WINE...

Is that really true what he said about viruses not affecting a Mac system? I just installed my xp virtual machine the other day and I saw online somewhere that you should still get virus protection for it.

yeah, if you get a virus on the virtual machine (XP), then it won't affect Mac OSX. if you don't want your virtual machine to be affected by a virus, then maybe virus protection should be considered.

I've been using VM Ware Fusion for about a year now with my mac and have really enjoyed it.

One hiccup to note though. If you suspend WinXP and then start up another PC on your home network and it grabs the IP address WinXP via VM Ware was using, when you pull WinXP out of Suspend mode it'll generate an IP error. To fix it, just restart XP in VM Ware and it usually takes care of it.

Besides that small hiccup, I've absolutely loved it though! Great app to have on the mac.

I have a mac with leopard and when i use vmware fusion with windows xp on it and i go to restart windows xp it makes me restart both systems.. i know its not suppose to do that i should be able to restart windows without having to restart my mac also, is there something i have to change to do that.

I have the Macbook Unibody 2.4ghz, its specs state that it has a 9400M 256mb Vram under OSX,i installed XP and the video ram Jumped to 512mb can anyone explain what is going on???? it ive notice that under Xp you can play GTA4 with higher resolutions than in vista. so in a way it dose boost it a little.

I've had VMware Fusion with Vista Home Premium for about 2 months, and it was an amazing waste of money. I've used it once. It runs really slow. I would recommend Parallels over VMware fusion. Don't get this. Sorry, it just sucks

You should consider Parallels as well.

I have used both VMWare and Parallels and prefer Parallels, find it faster and more friendly. Parallels was also first to offer "Coherence" mode - where you integrate the operating systems into one.

The first time I installed Parallels on my new macbook pro, the system became very slow once parallels was launched, and eventually, I got the Grey Screen, telling me to restart my pc.

But later I found out that I had the PPC version, not the x86, thus Rosetta was flooding my CPU and caused my system to freeze... Still, I think parallels is inferior to VMware, in terms of user friendliness, and speed...

I have VM on my macbook pro (2.6 GHz cpu + 4GB ram) and I still notice that Win XP still runs sluggish at times. It's not as smooth as I thought it would be? Anyone else has this same issues.

it's too processor and RAM intensive. sure it dosent use all of the processor/RAM power and if you're just going to use simple apps it's very good but anything more than 2 windows and it will chug. i just un installed it.

Ummm, actually if u get a virus on a virtual machine it can still get your ip and other personal information so its not completely safe...DONT PLAY WITH VIRUSES ON A VM!!!! ITS NOT SAFE!

Oh dear, not my IP address! That's horrible!... Not really though, a webpage can get your IP address, and it's not unsafe. And about 'other personal information', virusses would only be able to obtain information from the VM that they're on, not your main operating system. Just don't do any banking or similar stuff on your VMware which could possibly have virusses, and you should be fine! Don't worry ;)

I've had to help people with both virtual machine options on OS X Leopard. Both need some work, but VMWare fusion is HORRIBLE. It has all kinds of annoying glitches, seems to be slower and use more resources. A lot of the features, namely printing, also seem very half-baked. Parallels, while not perfect itself, is MUCH better.

Really strange too. The VMWare solutions I've used on Windows and Linux have been really good.
