  • Just on the subject of death. You don't become sad because you think death is a bad thing or you are conditioned too. You are sad because you will miss their presence...

  • @Metknot666 I agree. I think his point doesn't exactly contradict that- I think he means something a little different- he's talking about the way the mind tends to label and categorize things and then filter and translate all experiences accordingly, and he's using death as an example. I think he's not necessarily saying something as simplistic as it may sound.

  • @Metknot666 i.e.- he's not saying death is good either. Seems to me the Buddha would say rather death is death. It's a process. It's change. The mind creates the experience of "good" or "bad" based upon conditions.

  • @Metknot666 btw- does anyone else find it ironic that he uses the example of an Irish wake and using the Irish as an example of positivity?

  • I love Ajahm Brahm. I need to take this opportunity to speak on behalf of non-humans. All sentient beings deserve to not be exploited. Please consider going vegan. We kill 56 billion animals (not including fish) every year for no other reason than their bodies 'taste good'. Non-human animals value their life as much as you or I and fight to hold onto it, please don't needlessly take it from them.

  • Does all this work in the "real"world though? When you work fulltime, run a home, pay bills etc?Sorry for seeming cynical but it would be quite easy to stay peaceful when you are a buddhists monk, leading a fulltime spiritual life, meditating alot during the day, running retreats, sounds ideal!!!!!

  • @TheMoonrakergirl Good point! I think his life is ideal for peace and bliss too. I planned my life so I could have the best of both worlds with lots of free time and solitude to do this stuff. But even if someone didn't, every little bit of working with the mind and expanding it with new ideas will pay off. i.e., A new study out in this week's Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging has a story about how an 8-week program of mindfulness meditation can actually rewire the brain for the better.

  • @TheMoonrakergirl have you ever try to meditating, said in retret?

the monk life is not easy ass it looked like. if it,s so easy and ideal then why soo many disrobed!

life in uncertain just traine to let go every thing, eat once a day, have no home. some live under the tree at a forest,or cave or grave yard ect,ect

  • I was so moved and enlightened by this talk - Thank you so much!

It's funny how every time I need to clear my mind that a 1 hour sitting with Ajahn Brahm is all that's necessary to bring me back to my true self.

Thank you for the beauty of you.

  • @RADIANTandRAW good for you! but you can develop your self only meditated you can still be your self with out the teacher

  • please find an authentic tibetan documentay for real teaching this guy is just as lost as I am

  • invention of electricity? what are you smokin? harnessing maybe(not the first), but see Nikola Tesla the proponent of AC/DC (which we use today) as opposed to just DC(Edison)

  • When he spoke about beauty being relative it reminded me of what Thomas Alva Edison said.

He said that due to his invention of electricity people of the future (who are us) will live like Kings of the past (people of his time).

Isn't it true that we are living like Kings of the past due to the invention of electricity?

Imagine a world without electricity. But are we happier than people of the past is the question. Is happiness relative with the time line of the world?

  • Why people don't like bad jokes?

because there are so many good ones.

  • The story about the cow literally made me cry, so sad. I love these teachings. Thank you so much for posting them. :)

  • Thanks Ajahn Brahm, you make life better! :-D

    Alf Inge Fredriksen

  • Never disappointed:)

  • woooooooooooow i love the joke about the carrot

  • bob

  • Wow, my friend needs to see this video. Thanks again for sharing.

  • (What's trantorns?)

I think you misunderstand. If you have psychological problems, or if you have a disease, telling yourself that "this sickness is an illusion" is just to fool yourself and isn't at all what one would call right perception. Right perception comes from seeing things as they are, and not being blinded by misleading emotions or ignorance. :)

  • I agree, I have just been having a rough time converting to buddhism, some relatives have passed away and I dont think I could deal with problems the way he said,, but I agree that his appraoch is a good. There are jsut situations for example like panic attakcs, moments of anger, in which you cant stop to think and deal with them with a right perception, they happen so espontaniusly that having this udnerstanding dont helps a lot, I guess meditation can adress more this sort of situations.

  • the talks are all brilliant. I JUST LOVE THEM. The bswa site is down now (CRYING!!)

(GMT +1: 21:00 hr 18 June), so I hopped over here to watch/listen to some talks. Love and Peace and pleace keep posting more. WONDERFUL.

    Sabbe Satta Bhavantu Sukhitatta.

  • Thank you ever so much for another wonderful talk. I work overnight at a homeless shelter so everyone is asleep and it is very quiet. When I first started the job I didn't know how I would spend my time and then I found these talks. I love being able to watch them over and over here. It has also started dialogue with some of the staff, residents who come in/wake up in the morning and get inspired from hearing the audio while they are punching in or checking their mail.

  • Thank our creator for these new videos :)

  • Great. I am greatful. I can listen to these dharma in US, far from where I was born...same spirit I listened in a different language, then.

    Thanks

  • I'm grateful, Amitabha!

  • I love these talks!

  • I can't thank you enough for these enlightening words. Just loved it.

  • Thank you. Ajahn Brahm is insightful as always.

  • what is that sutta mentioned I cant quite hear the name properly

  • If you are asking about the sutta that he first mention around 3:48, it sounded like "Vipallasa" which I just googled and came across a "Vipallasa Sutta" so I would guess it to be that. I practice Tibetan Buddhism in the Gelupa tradition and have not come across this one before so I am not completely sure.

  • Excellent thank you for sharing! !

  • THANKs for great video:)

  • Thank you for posting! These talks are very helpful.
