Excelente!!! una preciosura..esta película marca una época que para mi que ya no volverá..pero sigue viva en mi recuerdo...cómo la mejor época que viví..andaba por los 13 años...
One of my all time favorite movies. I love the DVD. I skip the drama and go directly to the race sequences :-) The two-disc set has incredible 'extras' about the filming and how they incorporated the actual race footage into the movie. How about a GT40 as a camera car? I think James Garner discovered his racing talent while training for the role.
@sputnik16335 I'm pretty sure you're right. He and Steve McQueen entered several races at a small dirt track in southern California where they raced modified jeeps. One night, we sat next to a woman that my mom struck up a conversation with. Didn't find out until after the races were over, and he came up in the stands, that it was McQueen's wife at the time, Neal.
James Garner actually was a fairly decent race driver, for a short time, not in F1 cars, of course, but in some sports cars and off road. Brian Bedford, who portrayed the Jim Clark-like driver (I think), supposedly was really uncomfortable with driving fast so in the scenes showing the driver in close-up, an actual race driver did those, which explains the full face balaclava always worn by that character. Director John Frankenheimer did a remarkable job, if sometimes overly theatrical.
I´VE UPLOADED LE MANS 1971,ENGLISH WITH SPANISH SUBTITLES,AND I´M UPLOADING GRAND PRIX 1966 IN 2 CDS (TWO PARTS,CD 1 AND CD 2),EACH ONE DIVIDED INTO 7 OR 8 PARTS,ENGLISH.REGARDS.
@blopa3716 Was a blood sport, now it is quit safe if you consider a certain ratio. I mean, in 2009, we could name the dead in a race car rapidly: I think there is 3 of them... I know the Pardo, Carlos, the Shafer, Rich... And finaly Surtees, Henry.
In the case of Surtees, a flaw in design in the wheel tether. That could have been avoided.
In the case of Pardo, well the wall on the track was quit badly placed in my taste and the car not so greatly made...
@therrydicule Im affraid you didnt understand spanish. I just have compared the movies "Grand Prix" and "Le Mans" and "This is a blood sport" is just a line said by Steve Mc Queen
I Have The DVD, The CD which was very hard to get hold, and The Paperback Book From 1966, I Love This Movie, I Saw It First When I Was About 7 or 8 On Tv, Absolute Racing Magic, The 1960s Grand Prix Drivers & Cars I Just Such A Large Part of Motor Racing Folklore, and This Movie Brings That Time Back Everytime I Watch This, Clark, Hill, Surtees, Stewart, Special Times Indeed, I Get A Thrill When I Go To A Race Curcuit Like Silverstone Or Brands Hatch, And This Movie Played A Part In This, Great
Of The four main actors portraying the drivers: James Garner, Yves Montand, Antonio Sabato and Brian Bedford... Garner was the only one who did much of his own driving. Like Paul Newman and Steve McQueen, James Garner was a pretty fair race car driver.
Yeah. Brian Bedford did little driving; he could barely even shift gears. That's why "Scott Stoddard" always wears a balaclava while racing: to hide the stunt driver's face. Montand & Sabato were "OK", but Montand wrecked a car and was afraid to drive fast thereafter. Garner on the other hand proved to be a competitive racing driver, went to Bob Bondurant's school, got into impromptu races with the other "real" drivers working on the movie, and took up competitive racing as a hobby.
great movie and music...i was fortunate enough to meet mario andretti and walkter hansken at the bridghampton double five hundred on long island..i think it was one of the first races for chevy chapparals... love fone
I saw this movie on the big wide screen (pretty new at the time - 1966) when I was 17 years old in 1966. This was the first REAL, high quality use of in-car cameras. I was totally blown away, and have been hooked on Formula One and road racing ever since, including being an SCCA participant for over 40-years! Surprising what a movie can do to you! Great memories!!! Thanks.
John Frankenheimer shot the movie in Cinemascope and used EVERY Cinemascope camera available worldwide to make this film. Furthermore, being a realist as a film maker, he insisted on shooting the racing scenes at racing speed rather than undercranking the cameras to speed up slower driving. The racing scenes are the result of excellent editing, combining film of the actual F1 races that year with staged driving scenes. A beautiful movie!
Cinerama was 3 camers 3 screens 3 projectors [they were only half a dozen movies that were true cinerama] at some point they were calling films cinerama that realy werent [they might print cinerama on the movie poster and record album cover].
First GP Long Beach 1978. JPS Lotus!! Mario Andretti!! This movie was something my dad introduced F1 to me and hooked me forever!! I listened to this soundtrack over and over again!!! Thanks for the good memories!!
Ahead of it's time. One of the greatest movies EVER.

Adolfo Celi was born for that role as
Mr F., but the film producers didn't name him as such. Fantastic portrayal.

Cinemascope? don't you mean cinerama?

Yes, I believe you are correct. It was cinerama. My error owing to the similarity of the names.
