The comparison to Al Jolson really fits and for the up-tight PC crowd who would complain about the word "Mammy", a word I grew up with which had a lot respect as to Mammy is Grandma. There is nothing on earth that can beat Mammy's hug, apple pie, fixing a scraped knee....it is a word of love same as Memaw, PawPaw, and so on.
Thanks for the post (he did end it roughly on the open mic)
Jerry Lee loves Jolson, and has praised him to the high heavens many times. Jerry Lee is the living musical link to Jolson, Crosby, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, Armstrong, et al. When JLL goes there is NO one to replace him.
In fairness I dont think anyone should make negative comments about the way Jerry does this....it was a private recording session, it was never meant for public broadcast....just Jerry and some friends sat around a piano.
I would rate this higher if it were not for the profanity at the end and also the ego which clearly leads Jerry Lee to erroneously think he can emulate the great Jolson.

This is fucking awful. Does he think he sounds like Jolson? Sing it straight, Jerry, you don't need to do immitations.

I think he's just having some fun in the studio.

You're right. I'm probably a bit hard on him. I'm just sorry he didn't record the song.

He did record it.
