If i ever see justin bieber in the street il tie him up and make him listen to metallica, pink floyd, ac/dc, queen, etc. untill he realizes that his music sucks and kills himself in shame
Yeah, and add them up and they're like evolution. 100 years from now, when you've long since shuffled off your mortal coil, someone will be listening to 'Childhood's Beginning' and the lyrics will be talking about McDonald's latest breakfast sensation. Why can't people just eliminate errors from lyrical postings and save us nitpickers a lot of work and heartache and having to explain things to non-purists such as yourself. Now go shout in YOUR sleep.
I thought the 90s had made people realise that rejecting corporate culture was the only way because of its inevitable stifling of innovation, creativity and surpressing culture itself. Consciousness and awareness was raised. If u wasn't there U DON'T really know how good it was. If u was. you know. Certain music is better and we ALL want to listen to it, don't feed the trolls (corporates!!!, commercialization!!!!) Its time, more than ever that we need to break away again.
Early Floyd is pure magic. I like all Floyd but for me, nothing is better than post-Syd pre-Dark Side Floyd. At that time they were so creative and didn't seem to care about much except making their music. The result is some of the most unique and beautiful music ever made.
By Clouds / When You're In"(live versions), "Burning Bridges" , "Mudmen" , "Childhood's End"(live versions) and "Stay". This is the soundtrack to the film La Valle. They recorded the music at two weeks, if I have a good memory. I prefer this album than The Wall and The Final Cut.
Absolutely, I'm a HUGE Pink Floyd fan, but this album is not underrated. The songs are really, really occasional, mostly lacking any sort of climax or punchy lyrical / melodic lines.
I see a correlation between this album and the front side of Meddle (with the exception of "Fearless", which is epic). Obviously, Echoes on the back side initiates a linking of Floyd's branded spacey psychedelic rock and lyrical empathy of Dark Side of the Moon.
This is a great antiwar song and relevant to modern America. The first verse is about PTSD. The second verse is about the romance of war fading and being replaced with longing those are who are told to "sail across the sea" (invade another country) develop for home. The third verse is about how the leaders and weapons are ultimately useless and that time - not war (which time turns to rust and dust) - is what heals all wounds.
Childhood's End, your fantasies merge with harsh realities. And then as the sail is hoist(ed) you find your eyes are growing moist, and though the fear is never voiced, soon you'll have to make the final choice.....brilliant.
Why in every vid of good old music do I inevitably found comments about the same two damned things: negative references to Justin Bieber & lady Gaga (or more generally music of today) and of course vehements conspuations about those who disliked the vid. Come on, this makes us, fans of Pink Floyd (and old music in general) look like insecure freaks.
@mcdonaldold1 I know he has the lyrics under the video but I think they sing "adjust" the beating of your heart, because you;ve just awakened with a start. Also, he writes "if once" put to the test and I think it is "it was" put to the test. oh well, my ears is gone now, all blkown out by those derned headphones in the '70's.
Such an underrated album. Sandwiched between the influential Meddle and the masterpiece Dark Side of The Moon, this album is so overlooked, but a masterpiece in it's own right.
@skorziks Specially this song, I still love. But: Meddle is far better then Obscured By Clouds. My opinion. I don't know, but I heared this album just a few times completelly - and I am a great Pink Floyd Fan!!! I like more Atom Heart Mother or Meddle, of course also Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and Animals. I never really like The Wall, because of the sound. There a great songs in it, but as an album I never like it. But: I never like it from a view as a fan. It is still great music.
@SoWirdGelogen I love Atom Heart Mother. I was playing it this afternoon(for probably 500th time). The eerie chanting section, Gilmour's awesome and passion guitar solo and the tribal section leading back into the main theme........I get a chill down my spine when I listen to it.
@EastMountain81 I am comforted by that knowledge. Now go and give Kevin Ayers' "Confessions of Dr. Dream (part 3@4)" a listen before you O.D. on Floyd.
@skorziks Agreed; one of the best parts about Floyd is that their music isn't inevitable: play this album for a listener that doesn't know their whole discography, and they peg this as pre-DSotM, maybe even pre-Meddle; this is a little bit of throwback sound compared to those highly technologically advanced albums. Which is exactly what's so cool about it. Paraphrasing Gilmore from the Pompeii shows: you need to be controlling the technology, it can't be controlling you.
May the 20 who didn't like the track suffer a coma for a hundred years or so only to wake up in a gloomy London like city where they are the only living humans in this city (all humans had moved to another planet) , the problem is that all of these left out souls have lost their breeding organs and above all this track is played over and over again in the back of their lives ...
@populvuh02 Wow man, I honestly do not remember writing that. I love this album. And if I had to pick a 'best song' off of it, this would not be the one. I need to lay off some stuff...

Even though pink floyd is my favorite all time band, i havnt really heard anything before darkside before this. Ive always just assumed i heard the essentials(darkside, animals, wish you were here, the wall, momentary..). but this is really good. I saw a special where they played this old video with this great song and they said then they were realy for darkside. anyone know what that is

What youtube should do is when someone dislieks a song it gives the account name and all their info. so we can find them. and break their bones xD nah jk
Fave band, fave album by this band, fave song on this album... And now saved to favorites.
I try and try to get some people together and play this old gem. Surprising how ignorant even fans can be of the Floyd's work- like the time I went to an open jam and tried to bust into Young Lust- and nobody else knew how to play it. Most of these guys were professional musicians and Floyd fans... Sure, they could play Time or Comfortably Numb, but get two bars into Mother and they're lost. Pity.
@AndyO1987 ya i consider myself a floyd expert, somewhat. instead of doing my real homework i end up looking up the history of pink floyd and all their music and etc. for some reason i just love reading and listening to their history. anyways i think their should be classes because if i go to college, i have no idea what id major in... if i could major in pink floyd then that be sweet lol. i taught my mom some lessons about them before i made her go to the RW the wall concert, she enjoyed it
Don´t want to fall into the "Such underrrated whatever...." cliché, but it's true PF had it already here, as much as in Dark Side... The later maybe a tiny bit more catchy, but the success difference is hard to justify...
@BilisNegra These days the media decides what's gonna be a success. Wasn't around then, but did the media just latch onto DSTM more. I think they are so different as albums, but each as good in their own way.
@cockywatchman1976 That's true. Music has gone from being art to being a product just like anything else. It wouldn't surprise me if you within a few years were able to buy underwear lying on the same shelf as the latest Lady Gaga album
@cemalson - Actually...I think we'll start seeing Lady Gaga cds being sold alongside toilet paper. How is is that a talentless 20 something can re-invent the wheel of musical expression into crap? Lady Gaga most certainly isn't the first young female to come up with uinque ways of musical expression. Remember Nina Hagen anyone?
I don't like a lot of their early work, but Obscured by Clouds is a great album. IMO, this is the second best song on the album. People never give Gilmour enough credit; I see there is no Floyd without Waters but not no Floyd without Gilmour.
Obscured By Clouds is Identical to the way Dark Side Of The Moon was put together as an album. Its just as good in my opinion. No doubt in my mind this track had a lot of influence on the song Time.
The Russians was extremely desparate to get revenge on USA and its Western Allies for their defeat in Afghanistan and fall of soviet Union.. and they finally came up with the Filthiest, nastiest, fuckiest but a very destructive weapons "RAP" and "Hip Hop" They armed their Communist mujahideens with RAP and Hip hop weapons just like CIA armed Muslim mujahideens with RPG and AK47. They have successfully sabotaged and ravaged such magnificent and elegant Western music industry and history. Wake up

Who are you and who am I
To say we know the reason why
Some are born some men die
Beneath one infinite sky
There'll be war and there'll be peace
But everything one day will cease
All the iron turned to rust
All the proud men turned to dust

Fave band, fave album by this band, fave song on this album... And now saved to favorites.
I try and try to get some people together and play this old gem. Surprising how ignorant even fans can be of the Floyd's work- like the time I went to an open jam and tried to bust into Young Lust- and nobody else knew how to play it. Most of these guys were professional musicians and Floyd fans... Sure, they could play Time or Comfortably Numb, but get two bars into Mother and they're lost. Pity.
TheAtomicist42 1 year ago 4
@TheAtomicist42 Most people who say they're Floyd fans barely know the music. They should teach college courses on Floyd.
AndyO1987 1 year ago
@AndyO1987 Agreed. I also think D20 character design should be available as a college course though. Hell if you could take Klingon.....
TheAtomicist42 1 year ago

BilisNegra 1 year ago
@BilisNegra These days the media decides what's gonna be a success. Wasn't around then, but did the media just latch onto DSTM more. I think they are so different as albums, but each as good in their own way.
cockywatchman1976 1 year ago
@cockywatchman1976 That's true. Music has gone from being art to being a product just like anything else. It wouldn't surprise me if you within a few years were able to buy underwear lying on the same shelf as the latest Lady Gaga album
cemalson 1 year ago 2
@cemalson - Actually...I think we'll start seeing Lady Gaga cds being sold alongside toilet paper. How is is that a talentless 20 something can re-invent the wheel of musical expression into crap? Lady Gaga most certainly isn't the first young female to come up with uinque ways of musical expression. Remember Nina Hagen anyone?

Best song on album, along with free four and gold-quality underated album.
cockywatchman1976 1 year ago 2
I don't like a lot of their early work, but Obscured by Clouds is a great album. IMO, this is the second best song on the album. People never give Gilmour enough credit; I see there is no Floyd without Waters but not no Floyd without Gilmour.

I am 14 years old and I have all BEATLES albums. But when I was 12 and I heard this for the first time, I was so impressed. THIS IS REAL MUSIC.
In the next year I bought all PINK FLOYD albums. But this is my favorite one.
THANK YOU for sharing such beautiful music!
And all I can say to the 18 people who disliked this beautiful song is: FUCK YOU!

Love the lyrics! It's all about the inevitability of everything fading ... turning to rust..
"all things have an end" sings Gilmour.
Great song for those of us "non-believers" in an afterlife.

I've always thought this was one of Floyd's greatest tunes, though much overlooked.
Don't like the stuff they did after The Wall.

Obscured By Clouds is Identical to the way Dark Side Of The Moon was put together as an album. Its just as good in my opinion. No doubt in my mind this track had a lot of influence on the song Time.
Metalitron12 1 year ago 3
@Metalitron12
Man, I always thought that myself. To me, both albums have the same feel and same message to me. It's just more together in Dark Side of the Moon.

Wake up
