  • indeed a great speech!!!!

  • What a surprise, an ivy league student standing on the shoulders of somebody else to get by. BIG FUCKING SURPRISE.

(I know I ended with a preposition so don't even try to point that out...trolls...)

  • nice speech.. nice video...

  • its easy to tell he never experienced the story he talked about. he grads from columbia and gets caught for plagerism... building leaders it seems

  • Great speaking

  • I like Coumbia university

  • Good video.

  • Columbia is good university.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • @minami935 Thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • Columbia University is very famous.

  • He speaks very well

  • Thank you

  • Columbia University is great.

  • He apparently thought no one had heard that joke? That's the amazing part to me. Sad.

  • BOO THIS MAN!!!!

  • Lets focus on the plagerism, not his upbringing. He did work for his Degree, but the act is what should be condoned.

  • I'm getting tired of seeing young people who have punched all the right tickets but have somehow overlooked the the "good character" category.

  • lol... here's a tip for his new wife: GURL HE GAY

  • Better than listening to the fucking drivel the valedictorian's usually shit out...I've gone to five high school graduations and four college graduations. All of the valedictorian speeches were boring and similar....at least this guy had the balls to do something like this.

  • 박정현이닷 +_+

  • What a fucking cunt.

  • look at this broken fake society, look at it, before it finally implodes all together.

  • Your video has the Youtube status Most Disliked, hahaha !

Never seen before, very cool, congrats :-D

Did not see the vid but I'll help you, will thumb it down too, hehe.

Very funny new thingie YT, lmfao,

    Sharkie

  • What Corman did was wrong, but hardly a big deal. He told a joke in front of the graduating class, he didn't write an effin book with it. People tell jokes without remembering where they heard it from all the time. Also, the joke was pretty lame anyway.

  • Who says douchebags can't become valedictorian?

  • @v1f9 I thought that was the definition of "valedictorian."

  • Some of these grads look hysterically inbred.

  • makes you wonder what else he plagerized

  • Corman's speech starts at 34:33. The plagiarized portion begins at 38:36

  • She can really sing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is it me or is he hanging from a telephone wire... and his pants are also on fire

  • I know this is wrong, but some of you say they should have revoked his degree... they wouldn't and shouldn't do that. He spent years towards his studies and taking a joke from someone else isn't exactly enough to take away his degree.

If he plagiarize an essay/paper... that's different. Many of you assume this just because he took Patton's comedy routine. Seems to me many of you are just looking at this as an opportunity to pounce on someone who has done more in their life than you.

  • @SquishyCandyftw If he could be so blatant about stealing in such a public venue I doubt his academic record, at least in regards to written communication, would stand up to much scrutiny.

  • Somewhere, Nick Madson is breathing a sigh of relief.

  • Pants on fire!!!

  • wow, I thought it was going to be just a small, barely consequential quote from one of Patton's bits, not an ENTIRE bit. That was fantastically shameless. What blows my mind is thinking "how in HELL did you expect NOT to get called out??? Surely you didn't expect EVERYONE you knew to keep their mouths shut and not EVER say 'Woah, buddy, that NEVER happened, what the fuck are you thinking?!?'"

  • He must have a job waiting for him at daddy's company, a non-profit, or local government. General Studies-sounds like a bullshi#er from jump street.

  • I clearly remember hearing the Star Trek joke a long time ago. In fact, it was well before Patton Oswalt became a known comedian. So this leaves me wondering, what part of this story did Oswalt write?

  • lol

  • congratulations to the newly grads! :)

  • Tool bag.

  • Does anyone truly believe this was the ONLY time this guy who became valedictorian lied and cheated? You don't wait for your valedictorian speech to decide, oh this would be a great time to start lying.

  • cheaters suck.

  • Jeez it would be one thing if the delivery wasn't terrible.

Well, no it wouldn't. But still, calm down Anakin Skywalker.

  • @columbiauniversity that's plagiarism. Please tell me you immediately EXPELLED him!

  • watching this makes me feel ill. they should remove this honor.

  • I wonder if he also stole answers for tests in order to become valedictorian.

  • fuck this chump.......but I'm sure he'll be highly successful because as we know in this country the liars, cheats, and shitheads always seem to prosper. congrats Columbia for spawning more scum that will take the country down a darker path of ruin.

GO FORTH AND DIE - watch?v=W21dBbtcfjk

  • He should have stolen some of Doug Stanhopes stuff. That would have been amazing to hear him travel off and talking about the 2 headed baby that those Doctors killed or about Palin having retarded kids.

  • Makes you wonder how much cheating he had to do to get to be valedictorian.

  • "......Diversity is much like the ingredients in a KFC Bowl" =)

  • take the video down, columbia. this plagiarist has no place being a voice for a university.

  • Just another ruling class douche.

  • Look at his smug face after he tells the joke. What an idiot.

  • @arrbeeone no......... he did it with Malice Aforethought . Look that up i'm sure you'll need to.

  • It wasn't just "taken from a comedy routine by Patton Oswalt." It was recited as if it had actually happened to the speaker. So he was lying as well as stealing.

And, Dean Awn, the rest of us put an apostrophe before the "S" to indicate possessition. So it is "our Valedictorian's remarks at this year's School of General Studies Class Day".

Likewise "This year's class of 230 graduating seniors". Right, Deanie?

What did you think when he referred to a class that is not taught at Columbia?

  • @Rajamuttu My point yesterday, Oswalt really DID that because hes such a Star Trek Geek. This Douche acts like it was something that happened in his class. FAILURE

  • @fascistbullygirl13

You can make your points without being foul-mouthed.

I think he did it because he thought "everyone" got that it was a just a joke. As if "everyone" lives in his Geek Universe.

Plus, he thinks he's entitled to anything and everything, because other people's creative work counts for nothing.

    Some lawyer HE's gonna make!

I have no idea why Patton O created his routine - beyond being a creative person.

  • @Rajamuttu yeah I COULD. But then it wouldn't upset coldneck conservative assholes like you. Why am I in no way surprised you don't get it???

Maybe you should just stick to watching Glenn Beck instead of the Interweb....

  • @fascistbullygirl13

Lord knows how I became a "coldneck conservative asshole" (whatever THAT is) and a watcher of Glen Beck, when I was a paid worker for Obama in the last election, and supported Ralph Nader when he ran. And don't own a TV.

If your life is merely about upsetting people, that is just so sad. And pointless.

And there is a big difference between feeling sad for someone and being upset by them. If that was your goal, you utterly.failed, foul mouth.

  • @Rajamuttu WOW U were a paid worker for a political campaign. Now I REALLY wanna trust in & follow everything U have to say. Please shower us w/ MORE! SO your deductive reasoning is that my WHOLE LIFE is abt upsetting people, when really it's just fun 2 annoy censorship fascist like U. (oh, pardon my foul mouth, I didn't know Queen Elizabeth I was in the room) I implore you to please stop aging before your face melts off. Nice touch w/ the 1st yr community college reverse psychology (thumbs up)

  • @Rajamuttu i really hate liars like you. nobody gives a fuck whos dick u suck.

  • Lol what a fail valedictorian

  • Not too surprising. You see successful comics stealing others material and quite a few people think it doesn't matter. Go to Leary's or Dane Cook's page on IMDB and there are all kinds of people defending them.

  • @DejectedPanda *wants to vomit at the mention of Dennis Leary* Yeah, if you'd like to know where Leary got his only funny bits, Look up a man named BILL HICKS!!! yeah..... Dane Cook.. Not even gonna bother. Who did that Genius rip off?

  • fail.

  • WHAT A PRICK

  • Why shouldn't he steal other people's material? Carlos Mencia made a whole career out of it.

  • What I really liked was the personal detail he added to the story. Patton Oswalt must have just been stealing from this guy's life.

  • @Magic1Million yeah mr. patton must have been some jerk in highschool for cheating so much! it's not even HIS starwars joke to begin with anyways

  • Hey Brian, looks like you have a future as a politician, you lying asshole.

  • Well, I certainly hope they revoked that guy's degree. Or does Columbia condone plagiarism?

  • Fuck that guy, that is called plagerism and at Western Washington University you get kicked out for doing that. Doesn't matter If you did it in a paper or in a speech, I'm a stand up comedian and I know Patton Oswalt worked really hard to make that joke perfect with every word and you can't just pretend it is yours. Cite him as a source for who you got it from or pay the price you peice of shit.

  • @allen91315 NOt to defend plagarism, but I imagine that, in this case, the guy probably didn't realize that his speech would be noticed by much of anyone beyond the folks in the crowd, which would have been pretty much harmless.

Had he imagined so many people on the internets would be watching him, he probably would have considered being more cautious with what he said.

  • @allen91315 The only problem with this, is how to work in that citation into a speech without effectively ruining the effect of the joke. It can be pretty hard to do this if you aren't a pretty spiffy writer.

  • Brian Corman raped and murdered seven young girls in 2007.

  • @JeffreyDMiller now that just horrible, even for me!!!

  • thumbs up with forefinger extended placing back of hand on my forehead.

he should put this on his resume.

  • wow, I should have plagiarized in school. don't make the same mistake I did, kids.

  • What an idiot.

  • Ha ha, moron.

  • Columbia Dean teaches the world that plagiarism is a tolerated sin. All you have to do is "appropriately" issue an apology. Oddly, Columbia's Administrative Code of Conduct leaves out "I'm sorry" from its "Procedures" (p. 5 of their Administrative Code of Conduct): "An individual's failure to live up to these principles may result in disciplinary action, including suspension, termination, and monetary fines". I guess Columbia's "principles" end at enforcement. They don't *really* have any.

  • what a loser and a phony

  • @columbiauniversity As a comedian, I would like to thank you for calling out your student's plagiarism. Most people refuse to see stand-up comedy as an art-form, so it is nice to see an establishment stand up for it.

  • so he got to graduate? lol go Ivy League Education hahaha

  • @enj06 some asshole named nick madson stole some of patton's material word for word and performed it in front of a dozen people or so. it happened at the end of April, so not exactly in the same month, but within 30 days.

  • Makes you wonder what else the guy plagiarized....

  • The funniest thing is he changes a few words. Sort of like, oh I dunno, how you would plagiarize an essay for class: go to Wikipedia, cut and paste, replace a few words with synonyms, and hand it in as your own work. He really learned something in college, I'm sure.

  • So... apparently it's OK for Columbia University students to plagiarize after they're done with their courses.

  • A valedictorian? Aren't they supposed to be smart? Like smart enough to realize that one will immediately get flushed out doing this in the age of the internet?

  • did u strip him of his diploma at least?

  • GS or BS?

  • give this fuck a Bachelor's in Fine Arts for Plagiarism

  • @NorbyIII huh?

  • i think its a nice speech. congratulations to all the graduates.

  • @NorbyIII Do you understand what is happening here? Mr. Oswalt was ripped off in a shameful display of obvious plagiarism. Did you even read the script??

  • @Arbitral please dont be mad at me. lets focus on mr oswalts plagiarism which is the real issue. i dont think we should support it whatever people say.

  • @NorbyIII I'm not mad at you, but you said "Shame on you Mr Oswalt". Patton was the victim- not the one who stole material.

  • Fuck this guy

  • twice in the same month. must be frustrating for patton

  • @JaredSanbird when did it happen before this month?

  • I'd rather work my ass off and fail on my own merits than steal and cheat my way through college like this shitbird.

  • Great. Reflects unfairly on the school, GS and other true scholars. What else did he plagiarize? Thank you cheater.

  • And now this is immortalized on the internet forever. Way to go, sir.

  • It must suck to realize later in life that you missed an opportunity for a truly fine education, apply to Columbia's School of General Studies, be accepted, attend classes, complete your finals, be notified that you were the class valedictorian, accept your diploma, stand in front of your peers and then do something monumentally stupid and forever taint everything you worked hard for. Congratulations, Brian Corman. Your resume will say Columbia but a Google search will always say "plagiarist".

  • WAY TO GO KOELLUMBEEYAH!

  • Thanks for leaving the video up and making the acknowledgment. That is the right and honest thing to do Columbia.

  • Boo this man!

  • (awkward)

  • This is obviously not plagiarism. Point number one: In Oswalt's joke, it's a Romulan ship. In this speech, it is a Klingon ship. Point number two: In Oswalt's joke, Kirk tells Chekov to fire the phasers. In this speech, Kirk directs the command to Spock. These two facts make the scenario entirely different and avoids any copyright infringement. Brian Corman is a brilliant young man who deserves every great thing to happen to him in life. /sarcasm

  • @hotmessization If you have to tell us it's sarcasm it's probably not funny.

  • @sloanedone It worked for SarcasmSmith. I thought stealing his idea would work out well for me too.

  • @drookie13 I feel it may as well stay up to show this guy up for what he is. A thief.

  • Too many young people today have been conditioned to believe that content can be freely appropriated without any compensation made to the content originator.

I'm a subway performer and I see this all the time. People come by, take photos, shoot videos, and then just walk away without even a tip. Then they upload to Youtube or their own sites and monetize this content.

No, it's not a crime to do this but it doesn't show any class either.

  • If he's the valedictorian at Columbia, that's probably not the only thing he plagiarized.

  • Fail

  • Wow. Verbatim theft of a well-known comedian's bit at the commencement of an elite academic institution. This guy is a real piece of garbage. Way to embarrass yourself and your school.

  • The university might want to review this guy's previous academic work to make sure he didn't rip any of that off either.

    Valedictorian, indeed.

  • who cares

  • Brian Corman... what a scumbag

  • Hope that laugh was worth it, fucking thief.

  • Really? You HAD to rip off Patton's joke to make your speech?! Fail. So glad I don't go to the disgrace of a school that is Columbia.

  • It is about 38 minutes in if anyone really cares.

  • At least you corrected your horrible misspelling of Patton's name.

  • @ConesieGirl014 Columbia College is the school you'd have wanted to apply to. This is the school of General Studies. You usually go to GS if you're applying to a joint program like the Union Theological Seminary or the Jewish Theological Seminary. And most people apply to UTS or JTS because they can't get into CC without a prayer (no pun intended).

  • I'm surprised that Columbia hasn't deleted all these comments by now and blocked new comments. Do not hire a Columbia graduate as a PR man. It's called damage control dumbasses.

  • @mackafella (slips on a banana peel) yeah you seem like a real coldneck probie.

  • What an idiot.

  • Dammit, now they've gone and fixed the "Mr. Oswald" part at the end, so my joke is now rendered moot. Oh well, good on them for fixing this so quickly. I love Patton's parting shot on his blog about the issue: "High standards, indeed. Did the salutatorian smash a watermelon?"

  • @DevanLund "bit too Gallagher for my taste....."

ps: that chicks singing is painful to look at/ everybody has to be a Whitney Houston

  • I like the KFC bowl one better.

  • Much ado about nothing.

  • @rbodine PLEASE, i'm pretty sure that was something Patton Oswalt really did because he was such a Star Trek Nerd. Then this Rico Suave Douchebag gets up & pretends it happened to him. It's not news like WW3 starting but don't act like he didn't rip Oswalt off & lie about it!! That makes YOU a Douchebag too

  • he should have done the rape stove bit

  • Comment removed

  • OH. MY. GOD. Take his degree away. What a loser.

  • who gives a shit if it isn't his joke? it's a college commencement speech, not the mind of mencia. direct your energy towards something that matters a tiny bit more you fucking 12year olds.

  • @ebolart News flash dumbass: Telling a comedy bit that someone got paid for word for word in your speech is the same thing as giving a speech someone already gave and wrote themselves. Plagiarism is plagiarism.

  • That's just embarrassing for the school. They gave valedictorian to a man who's not afraid to plagiarize a comedian... who knows who else he has not given attribution to.

  • god damn, if he rips off jokes, wonder how he got valedictorian?!

  • What a fucking tool.

  • #t=37m38s - For all the Patton Oswalt fans out there.

  • what an idiot!

  • Brian Corman fuck off and die you joke stealing fraud.

  • hang yourself.

  • This guy is funny. Who's his writer?

  • Comment removed

  • Plagiarizing Patton Oswalt's material is no way to go through life, son.

  • Patton Oswalt deserves an honorary degree from Columbia!!!! Boo Brian Corman!

  • EAT A DICK, BRIAN CORMAN.

  • That's some fine valedictoring, boy.

  • practice makes perfect.

  • brian corman deserves a hiding

  • what a douche bag, asshole. i hope he never gets a job

  • What a humiliation.

  • dirty dirty dirty thief

  • Booo. If you plagiarize a stand up comedy bit for your valedictorian speech at Columbia, you might be a redneck.

  • he already looked like a slimy douche when he took the podium... hes probably only valedictorian cause he copied off all of ling-ling's note
