Maggie Jones deserved her soap award by miles. She was soo funny and played the part of Blanche superbly. She is still missed over 1 year on and Coronation Street just isn't the same without her.

Her voice is so weak, I think she hadn't long to go when this was filmed, I believe it was cancer. She is sorely missed. ;-{

@Paskovitchz i like all the older characters it won't be the same without blanche like it is not the same without vera.all the yonger characters seem so mallicious and crummy,and all they really do is look pathetic at least the older ones had some class to them.

@Paskovitchz I agree..Betty does nothing for the show.If I were producer,I would axe Emily,Betty,Gail(overused),Sal­ly,Liz,Rosie,Dev,for starters.

These characters are either overused,underused or just plain shocking actors.Blanche was the best actress Coronation Street ever had.I still miss her.

@Paskovitchz Well,Les and Curly were both axed.They did not leave on their own wishes.Curly served 20 years and les served 10.Curly has been gone so long,what would be his purpose nowadays?He didn't even come back for Vera's funeral.

Shed a few tears today. You could tell here that she was not doing well yet being 75 and recovering from illness she seemed very together! Mind you I believe she did not have her operation until after this was filmed. I read she returned in 1999 to Corrie. That was near the time my mom died and Blanche was mom's favorite! Not sure if I ever told mom but Blanche reminded me of her! They even looked a bit alike and watching Corrie became bittersweet. My best to her family and those who knew her.

A bit of trivia for the YouTube world. The chair she's sitting on is a cast-off from the old set of the regional news programme 'Granada Tonight' which was broadcast from the same studios in which Coronation Street is filmed. It was last seen in bad boy builder Charlie Stubb's flat.
