I actually don't think she's a very good dancer. To begin with she needs to be in better contact with the music and vary her moves more. second, she's just showing off her body and swinging her hair around. third, every video I've seen with her looks just the same. the good thing about her though is she puts alot of energy in to the dance and she has good contact with the audience and looks like she's having fun.

I think her technique and layering are fantastic and her trade mark shimmy just rocks. It looks to me from what i've read most of her performances are or include improv, i am into tribal but i just can't help but be caught up in her infectious joy in this routine, her rapport with the audience is clear, surely in the final cut that's what counts...

the way she dances is just an her interpretation of bellydance--her personal style. It would be really boring and sad if every bellydancer danced the same.

Does she make them with her own hands or does she simply draw out the pattern and have someone produce them for her? The styles of belly dance that Ansuya and Rachel Brice do are different...Ansuya does Cabaret, which is more dramatic, whereas Rachel Brice does Tribal, which is more serpentine...both are amazing, but would it change your opinion at all to know that Rachel did Cabaret for 10 years before she started to pursue tribal??? Ansuya and Rachel are my models for how I want to be, regardless of their differing styles!!!

I can tell they loved her, and with stage presence like that, she must have loved the audience too! I wasn't at this show, but I've been part of the Utah bellydance scene (as a drummer) for 10 years. A typical Utah audience rarely gives any indication of whether they're enjoying the show or not, so it's gratifying for a dancer to get an enthusiastic response. It's not easy to be this energetic when the crowd seems "dead" or disinterested. Whooping and hollering probably wouldn't be appropriate during a moody, contemplative piece, but when the music is loud, a cheering crowd adds to the mood.

Ansuya,a wonderful performer,a sweet kind spirit with love and compassion. She assumes positive intent for all. I attended this show. The sound was notworking very well. I don't know if many remember her workshop, she did comment the warmth she felt from all,us and the audience. The audience responded with Zagareets and appropriate praising vocals.The video is a poor example w/sound problems. Things are not always as they seem. Happy New Year!

Well, outside Middle East, because of the language barrier we can't get the meaning of the song , so the dancer must be very theatrical and expressive to get the enthusiasm of the crowd. I heard that back in the Middle East during the perform the audience keeps silence to show respect for the dancer,they are there to see her and will wait if she decides to, for example ,encourage them to clap hands.I think that a rid of applausse would have been better than yelling.

Actually, Middle Eastern crowds are very noisey and vocally involved with performances, traditionally. It's the western audiences accumstomed to ballets that do the polite silence thing. But when people know it's okay to show vocal appreciation, then they add energy to the performance.
