  • Basic beginner info, and showing only one kind of extinguisher (the one West Marine carries). Please do a followup with more detailed information.

  • @jrhgswrhfg While it's true that there are other extinguishing agents (CO2, halon replacements) and there are other clases of fire (class D, class K), the vast majority of boaters use dry chemical extinguishers just like the ones shown in the video. If you own a wooden boat, I'd recommend a Tri-Class extinguisher, but the Coast Guard only specifies a Class B model. Boats with gas inboards or sterndrives might consider an engine-room extinguisher as an additional precaution.
