  • nicely done..

can you tell me how you control your ultrasonic sensor...

  • this is nothing. enter trinity firefighting expert division you have to find a candle on a two deck maze (equivalent to a two story house) - your timed. air to put out the flames makes you lose points. you have to get back to base. there are obstacles randomly placed in the maze. your not allowed to follow walls.

  • Yes, but I think that an important difference here is that the robot in this case has no prior knowledge of the layout of the area. For example, the maze could be changed around from mission to mission and the robot would still be able to locate the fire.

  • you would think so, but- theres a room not attached to any walls, you wouldn't sense it.

  • Yeah, they have one of those island rooms in the trinity firefighting competition but there is also one in this maze here (the room with the flame in it). The search algorithm on the robot is a lot more than just following the walls as you can see from that odd looking maneuver at about 1:34.

  • my apologies, I should have thoroughly watched the whole thing first. thinking about it now, this is pretty sweet- our robot doesn't use dead reckoning (sorry for spelling) but our programming even with ultrasounds is required to 'know' the maze. its what we get for using a drag n drop c engine rather than a direct code editor.

  • Simon also rules! Go Simon!

  • YOU RULE JOHN!!!!
