Plus, since WWII the Japanese have grown to adore America and consume American pop imports without much discretion. In 1968 that country was far more insular and its people relatively nondiscerning about what was going on in the West. In other words, their tastes were unsophisticated, they took what they could get and were barely able to tell the difference between the Beatles and the Osmonds. For what it's worth.
Fascinating. I have been to Japan numerous times and respect the Japanese and love Japanese pop culture. It is supremely ridiculous. I also have a high tolerance and appreciation for "guilty pleasures" of the 1970s like Starland Vocal Band and Disco Duck. But Japanese pop music and Japanese tastes are notoriously terrible. What else could explain a 5 year old "lesser Osmond" being such a hit in their country.
what a lovely, humble, gracious man he has become....that all of the brothers have become....what a wonderful job Father and Mother Osmond did of raising their children.
@rhiann0n1 I agree. Very sweet peple and their work with The Children's Miracle Network is wonderful don't you agree? Glad he got to talk to a mentor of mine Sir David Frost.
Whatever you think about his music, he was a millionaire before he was 18 and has always been successful. He's still working in the entertainment industry after all these years...I should be so lousy at what I do...
Well, well, Jimmy turned into a nice fella. It was nice to see how he declined the opportunity offered by Frost to minimize his Mormon faith. Good man, Jimmy.

IT"S A LIE! Jimmy Osmond was NOT five-years-old, and that blubbery one-hit-wonder. (only one #38 single in 1972 at the age of NINE) He'd have been five in 1968, and that regional Japanese hit was releasedl years later. Chart history outside of the USA shouldn't be considered legitimate, anyway. Cliff Richard is barely known for a few minor hits in the late 70s and Billy Fury (or however it's spelled) never existed in the civilized world. David Frost is a 70s has-been here, too.
What on earth are you talking about? Jimmy had a number one hit in Japan in 1968, singing a song in Japanese, and was later named Vocalist of the Year in Japan at the age of five. "Long Haired Lover from Liverpool" - entirely different song than the earlier mentioned Japanese song - while not a huge hit in the States was a mega-hit in the UK in 1972-73. Watch the post first, do some research, check your spelling and your text comments will be better served for it.

Prove it, then. Introductions by Frost or statements from Jimmy, his family, or Osmond fan sites do not count. Washed-up recording artists constantly stretch the truth regarding age and chart history.. Singer DION was just on "Huckabee's Fascist Rally" on FOX News Network, claiming to have 15 top ten hits in the US, which he absolutely didn't. All one has to do is refer to Whitburn to prove it. If you're sure you're right, you're welcome to send along Japanese charts or other solid evidence.
Are you a frustrated singer/musician in any way? First it's Jimmy, then Frost
then Richard, then Fury ("however it's spelled) and now Dion. Britney Spears is making a comeback, for pete's sake. The song in which you took issue - "Long Haired Lover" - is not the song that Jimmy achieved both a number one hit and Male Vocalist of the Year in Japan. You made reference to the fact that it was the song in question. It is not. I'm going to get right on those "Japanese charts" for you.
Never said that I thought "Long Haired Lover" was the Japanese hit. "Little Darling" was. Believe what you want to believe, but only US Billboard charts have any credibility. Americans don't care about Cliff Richard any more than they care about the Olympics or World Cup or Worlds Cup or any third-world entertainment. No need for a rant. I asked for proof, and you couldn't provide it....so I'll conclude that you base your beliefs on hearsay. No problem. I encounter many like you in this world.
You do understand this program that David Frost is hosting is produced in the UK - a place that does care about the Olympics and the World Cup(s)? Why watch this in the first place and put so anger into your post if everyone in it is washed up? I'm an Osmond fan, came across it and watched it. "Little Darling" was not the song in question either - those words are not in Japanese. Please bear in mind the song was in JAPANESE. No problem. I encounter many people like you in this world.
baysadaye ive just got to read all your childish words talk about petty look jimmy osmond in fact had 5 number ones in japan on denon records from 1968 to 1981 all sung in japanese so get of your high horse and get real ha ha your a joke
Excellent. Show me Jimmy Osmond's discography and anything else you have. The last person who dared to argue over this LOST. I'm not picking on Jimmy Osmond or anybody else, but when people try to rewrite history based on HERESAY, I cannot accept, nor can I forgive. I own Jimmy Osmond's albums, even "Little Arrows," and I was THERE when Jimmy had his one and only top 40 single in 1972, which barely made it to #38. All I'm asking is that you SHOW ME EVIDENCE. I'll give you 72 hours.
He won a Best New Male Vocalist Award in JAPAN in 1969. Had his hit song in 1968. Why you are being such a JERK is beyond me. Google is your friend! A simple search will reveal the info in many places including Rolling Stone Magazine. So take your attitude and shove it.
Search? Show me.. You have 24 hours to prove what you say is true. No matter what you say, he was no more than a fat little jump-suited butterball who rode his family's coattails to one #38 single at the age of nine in 1972. Christ, if only I could access that horrid video of him at age 14, singing "You Should Be Dancing" on "Donny & Marie." Wretched stuff. That's why they cut and bury such things and pretend they never happened...like guest star Lee Majors Singing "Bye Bye Blackbird."
Baysadaye, the only LOSER here is you. Grow up. Your hateful, ignorant attitude is appalling. Get a life and get some psychological help because you need it. I did not respond because unlike you I have a full and busy life. I'm sorry your life is so pathetic that you have to troll YouTube videos and insult people like Jimmy Osmond to feel better about yourself.
Jimmy's popularity depends on where u live ... I happend to be visiting Europe in the mid 70's + Jimmy was huge! I returned to Canada to find him relatively unknown (understating). More power to the Osmond clan, an extremely talented ensemble!
Jim is an honorable man. I attended an Osmond "Get Together" in Las Vegas a couple of years ago and Mr. Osmond make a very strong impression. This man is much more than what he appears to be and I mean this in the very best way.
You are obviously a deranged Jimmy Fan, aren't ya? Most of you are a little unsable, but you have no right telling me I can't have an opinion. It's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH, Phsyco!

This Dude is not the talent in that family. You can't even call him a "Hasbeen", he's more like a "NEVER WAS". He did invent the "ONE HIT WONDER" Concept though.
Thank God for Jimmy Osmond..he has revived the 'Osmond'mania...and now our best goes to him and David (Idol) too! Jimmy deserves all the credit and happiness out of all his ventures...still waiting for 'Broadway'..Jimmy!
Jimmy!!! Good Job Mate!
