  • I made this recipe using Suave Keratin. I had a hair full of white beads that I could not get rid of without shampooing and conditioning again. Suave's product is horrible. I will be going to Trader Joe's asap. Smelled awesome though.

Question: The last time I did a co-wash my hair came out tight and NOT soft. Please help me to figure out what I am doing wrong. Thanks

  • @ThundyByrd Make sure you're using enough moisturizing products. Maybe you may need some more glycerin. Also, rack through a moisturizer and/or oil after you co-wash. Good luck!

  • THAT LOOKS FREAKIN DISGUSTING

and i thought trader joes was a restaurant...

  • @BELLAandZfan Well it's not food, so not sure why it looking disgusting is even an issue. The title does say 'conditioner' - and you don't eat that. It's good for your hair though.

  • @Proverbs31intraining I feel the same way girlie and, that stuff is EXTRA EXPENSIVE. lol. But I won't give up I want natural hair products to help my natural hair to grow.

  • How long do you leave the homemade conditioner in the frig?

  • You are very pretty and your skin lovely!...TRACK

  • I have that trader joes conditioner.

  • @shesingslovely...what did u say abt the powders in the beginning? what r they?what r their benefits? thanks!

  • Making ur own DCs works wonders! Ive been doing it for 6 months and FINALLY my scalp is starting 2 be moisturized, less itchy/flaky and my hair has AMAZING shine, softness and doesnt tangle as easy. The extra time spent is well worth it! I mix coconut milk, olive/coconut /grapeseed oils into my IC Olive anti-breakage treatment along with a dab of Herbal Ess Hello Hydration&Rusk Keratin smoothing condish. It works WONDERS.I get great slip & detangling is easier!Everyone should create a DC recipe!

  • How long can this whole recipe be kept if i add egg or yogurt? I really want to add eggs in my conditioner/shampoo but i think it won't last for days like the one you are making. with eggs in it i think it can only be kept for one day at the most. i want it to last for atleast a week. any thing that can be done?

  • @shawntika I think you should make the mix and for each wash take out the amount you wish to use and then add the egg

  • is your hair locked or is it just twisted? cuz i was wondering if i could do this to my hair cuz i am currently starting locks.

  • @naoluvsjesus I had just taken skinny twists out of my hair in this video.

  • hi hunn can you plc give me the names or links ov theth sisterz yr talking abt as i wld love 2 know more abt they shampoos and cond how they make it plc thanxs hunn grt videos

  • @SuperAyshaa their names are in the description box.

  • Can someone help me i recently had a touch up for a perm and i guess my hair got over processed so now my bangs got kinda burned and i don't know what to do help me please!!

  • @Madiesvideos hahhahaa she is pretty r u stupid

  • @shafreenalovely no but u are

  • pretty girlie :)

  • aww the little bear :)

  • @Madiesvideos Thank you *blushing*

  • Husband: "Hey honey whatcha makin' for dinner?"

SheSingsLovely: "I'm not making dinner, I'm making a deep conditioner..."

    Husband: "Oh I see... xD"

    lol nice tutorial though!

  • Does the deep conditioner dye the hair?

  • @queeny107 no it doesnt

  • @SheSingsLovely - Thanks!

  • @queeny107 Amla and the vakita does dye the hair. Amla and henna are used as natural dyes in India.

  • @MsBellaFate if that is the case, then she probably can't tell because her hair is naturally very dark. i think i'd like to try it-- i like henna :D

  • I need a conditioner that doesn't needs refrigeration. Would you recommend this product? If so what is the expected shelf life?

  • @gallaheralicia I rarely kept this in the fridge. I would say about 6-7 weeks is the shelf life. It never really went bad on me though. Mainly because the base of it is regular conditioner, whose shelf life is extremely long.

  • @SheSingsLovely Thank you so much.

  • Thank you

  • Where do you get your shea butter from? I am getting ready to call Whole Foods to see if they carry it. I don't want to take a trip to the store unless I know they carry it (about a 40 minute drive from my house). I searched through all the comments and could not find a previous post.

  • @reneecarnes72 butters-n-bars website

  • @reneecarnes72 : Sweets, also u can check any store that sells wigs, sometimes African/Vietnamese owned. Shea butter may come in yellow or white - i think they are equally effective.

  • @VeryHappy2bMe nah..those aren't pure shea butter. They have other gunk added to them. Though, anyone can still use them...but if someone wants pure shea butter, those stores aren't the place to go.

  • @SheSingsLovely: Oh my, thanks for the clarification. i've got to research this a bit more, b/c there are vids that state these are pure. I am committed to selecting wholesome products for my hair this year. I've told myself its an investment, ya know?

  • @reneecarnes72 Whole foods actually does carry the shea butter, but I find it to be very expensive. About $9 for 2 oz. You can try the Asian/African American hair stores. I have found they are much cheaper. $6 for an 8 oz jar.

  • This mixture looks great, it's basically food for your hair! Thanks for sharing.

  • you hav nice teeth

  • @8Plalala well, thank you! :-D

  • YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL!

  • @iSLANDSAiLOR21 thank you :)

  • Is there any kind for afros to make ur hair soft?

  • You can get most natural hair products (essential/carrier oils, aloe juice, leave-ins, shampoos, etc) on iherb.com. Just got aloe juice from there. It's a really good website. This time of the year they also have great discount and they have a flat shipping rate of $4 but depending on the weight of your order, you might as little as $2 for shipping. Here is a coupon for you ladies and gents to use for $5 off: ARU392 (this is for first time orders). Many people can use it.

    Happy New Year 2011!!

  • Quick question, the conditioner you used, why did you choose to use that conditioner? I'm just asking because you mentioned that you decided to make your own because of the one's on the market.

  • @lrmdamalm that conditioner is not a deep conditioner..but I liked the ingredients in it and it was moisturizing my hair when I used it as a regular conditioner.

  • You're beautiful :)

  • @MissRobot1 Thank you :-D *blushing*

  • does it have to be extra virgin olive oil or can it be just olive oil?

  • @libby33708 it can be regular olive oil.

  • @libby33708 extra virgin is the best type for ur hair because it is the olive oil plants most natural form of it's oil.

  • Age has nothing to do with it aja, there are kids, or teens that are mature, and regrowing it is smart I had to once.

  • I love your videos, so clear and concise and yet very informative...I'm gonna make me some too...thanks

  • Is the Indian powder a must??

  • @islandgirl1427 no it is not a must.

  • it looks nasty but i tried it and it works well... thnx 4 posting!

  • THanks for sharing this information. I have also been thinking about making my own homemade products for my hair.

  • @Appa1005a I had hair, I had just cut it all off to regrow. But *clearly* I had hair...and wanted to take care of it from scratch.

  • @SheSingsLovely Way to go SheSingsLovely. But that was just a really stupid and useless comment for that person to make. Sometimes I wish Youtube was only for those over 21.

  • @aja4079 I agree. It amazes me how people get serious balls over the internet. They wouldn't say of the stuff they type to people's faces.

  • @aja4079 i noe but mpst adults act sow to dont yhu just hate when ppl leave negitive cmmt for no reasons im not over 21 teheheh lol but i can leave just as respectful and resposible comments as everyone else i wish dumb ppl wouldnt leave negitive cmmt :) well cmmt back plz

  • @Appa1005a your right!

  • @EatingMuffin and what are you getting at? People with the amount of hair I had shouldn't take care of it or wash it? Eww, you're gross.

  • @SheSingsLovely Uh.. I never said that.. I just agreed with Appa1005a that you almost dont have hair in this video

  • @EatingMuffin and what was your *point* in agreeing with it? none?

  • sooo too much protein is bad for natural hair? I have been using egg and mayo and olive oil as a deep conditioner, so is that maybe not a good recipe? Does too much protein/this recipe decrease elasticity in hair, because my hair has been medium length since I was young and yeah not much stretchy-ness going on like some of you natural ladies of youtube. let me know thanks!

  • @SAYSHABIE I have a vid called "Calm Down With the Protein". Check that out, I think it may find it helpful.

  • kool

  • why is dimetthicone bad for you hair?

  • @princessbluexpink it clogs the hair shaft preventing moisture from getting in.

  • @SheSingsLovely wow didnt know that...thanks

  • I love this piece of video. its rich in the information that it has.i will try it. keep it up.

However , could you send me the links of the two people you made reseach with, i will greatly appreciate this. thank you and i look forward to your next video.

  • @Lyrics0804 Thank you. Their Youtube names are in the description box

  • Are you sure its ok to store it outside of the fridge with the ayur herbs in it?? I think I might try this with some henna and cassia mixed in because I don't have any other herbs on hand....

  • @mzmillion yes, it's fine

  • Looks like melted ice cream lol. I didn't see the link for the Jamaican Caster oil though.

  • @princelover1 it's in the description box

  • great video....you should try Duke's mayonnaise to condition your hair...it really works...Here are some of the ingredients: soybean oil, eggs, water, distilled cider vinegar, paprika, etc...these are all ingrediets most use in their homemade conditioning mixes....Try it and let me know if you like it.

  • I just had to compliment you on the crystal clear quality of your video.Your video was very high standard, not fuzzy, notdark or anything.Keep up the high quality.

  • @Electra709 thank you!

  • does this work for long thick silky hair or damaged hair no affence to anyone

  • @taylorswiftfan229 yes it works for all types of hair...especially the Indian Powders : )

  • I am enjoying your vids, I am a mixtress as well and love using natural products. Thanks for sharing!

  • Hi thanks for the video Im very proud of your approach to hair. As a cosmetologist their is a science to hair. You get that. Before applying anything to the hair we must know its purpose. You mentioned two people youconsulted the last person I would like to look at her youtube channel but did not quit get her name. I think you said Deshundra. thanx for sharing

  • @dreamofhair hello. glad you liked the video!! The other channel name is Desaundrea

  • YAAAAAAAY good vid, alot of ingrediants!

after one jar of that im pretty suree my hair will be unfryd hahaha

I have really thick long hair and I dye it blonde so its pretty fryd

    THANKS FOR SHARE/ING :) !!

  • HI, Great video...is this exclusive for african-american hair, or have you had any caucasion friends try this with any results...thank you,

    Virginia

  • @gin4jc this can be used by anyone of any race.

  • Hey!! It was soooooooooo nice of you to share this with us!! It inspires me!!

  • how long does your deep conditioner last and is it gritty because of the amla and shikakai powders

  • @KaleidoscopeIdeas no it's not gritty...especially now, since I blend it with a cake mixer (I can't think of the real name). My conditioner hasn't gone bad. The longest I've kept a batch was 2 months.

  • this was really great! i think i am going to try this!

  • Comment removed

  • What website do you purchase your castor oil from? And do you recommend any other oils?

  • Thanx 4 replying so soon. I do condition her hair every time i wash it and use the olive oil moisturizing lotion and that still does'nt work.

  • Hi, my daughters hair is4c and super dry and i have been searching for mthings to put in her hair to keep it moisturize and from falling out, can u suggest any shampoos we both can use that will not dry our hair out and his this mixture for deep treatment only? Waiting for your reply with thanks. Kimoni.

  • @kimoni6 This is just a deep treatment. The shampoo is not the issue. You need to find a better moisturizer. Possibly one that doesn't have a protein in it. You could also look into using a creamy leave-in conditioner as well. Also after you shampoo make sure you run some sort of conditioner right after that.

  • @SheSingsLovely

The Shampoo an be a problem if you use a drying/sulfate loaded one. You should you something natural like liquide castor sope w will keep you daugthers hair soft and not dried out!

  • where can i found that vegetable glycerin

    ????

  • @KISstudio12 vitamin stores, organic stores, or amazon

  • You have absolutely beautiful skin! That's the first thing I noticed about you. Thank you for posting this great video. Well done. :)

  • @Kanani30 Thank you! :-)

  • Where can I get the herbal hair powders?

  • To get to the point...go to 1:54.

  • @DancingChakra or they could watch the intro to hear why I'm making my own conditioner instead of buying a store bought one.

  • Love the vid girly. I've been thinking about trying some Indian products, like Henna. The closest I've come to Indian Ayurvedic products was/is through Afroveda. Thanks for the vid though very, very thorough!

  • WOW YOU MADE THAT LOOK SO SIMPLE!!!!!!!

  • You can also get the Indian products at Somali stores because generally Indians and Somalis have very similar hair.

  • Great video. Thanks for explaining everything. I'm going to make my own version today based on your tips. I'll just use my all natural moisturizing conditioner, organic honey, evoo, glycerin, and castor oil. I will be on the lookout for the Amla powders when I'm near any Indian shops.

  • Thanks for this. I have been looking for deep conditioners without protein but had hard time find one. I know you said if wanted protein treatment to add egg or yogurt but I wanted to know does the version in this video have any protein at all? if so, it is too much for a person with naturally dry hair that creaves moisture? Also, do you consider your shea butter mix as the moisturizing cream when sealing in it moisture? Thanks in advance.

  • @NadegeP1 There is no protein in the mixture. Well actually I just recently realized that the Trader Joes conditioner has some protein. But if you choose a conditioner with no protein, then this will be protein free. I have dry hair and my hair loves this conditoner. Yes shea butter is a moisturizer.

  • @SheSingsLovely thanks so much for the tip. I didn't know that!

  • @SheSingsLovely Thanks. Btw, I am terrible on picking conditiners with no proteins. Do you know any?

  • @NadegeP1 Not off hand at the moment :-/

  • Thanks so much for the information! Will I be able to sit in the steam room with this deep conditioner in my hair?

  • @Graceful465 yes you can

  • i love this video, thanks. can you send me the videos of the other girls you were talking about please.

  • @Jenna1814 their names are in the description box

  • @SheSingsLovely LOL thanks

  • i luv the video im going out today get all those things to make my own but my question is would it be ok to add an egg to the mix or would it be better to add it as you deep condition your hair???

  • @MzShonda777 definitely add it as you deep condition.

  • nourish spa has dimethicone or a paraben...cant remember which of the 2.

  • @miknotti not that I know of...i've read the bottle. pretty much all natural. unless I'm mistaken

  • @SheSingsLovely can u give me a link to desandria. im not sure how she spells her name. thank u.

  • @miknotti I put her name in the description box to help ya'll out....Desaundrea

  • can i add some boiled beer for the protein as well?

  • @me0728 not sure...but add egg instead..or mash and avacodo and add in the conditioner and stuff

  • question for you though, when you said use your favorite conditioner......did the conditioner you use in your dc have dimethacone in it??? im talking about the nourish spa one to be exact

  • @litlkutie no, i stay away from dimethacone.

  • Thank you for this video. I made my mix and it is working wonders!! I had over proteined my hair to the extent of the hair being like wire!!! I had thrown my powders to the back because initially when i used them they gave me blisters on my scalp. This time they r working wonders (i think initially i overdosed lol). Thank you again.

    PS pron=shee-ka-ka-i

    shee-qaa-qaa-y

    lol sorry couldnt help myself

  • i deep condition more than once a week, and i use at least 5 moisturizing products in my hair daily. by the end of the day my hair is dry again, plus my hair feels kinda rough now that you mentioned that and i'm scared i over protein-ed it, lol. what should i do ?!

  • try cutting back on the protein for a month and see if your hair softens. If not then then look into avoiding demithicone, petroleum, mineral oil and silicones. This ingredients coat your hair blocking moisture from getting in.

  • damn, don't pretty much all conditioners have demithicone in it? do you have anymore homemade conditioners or shampoos? i've been wanting to make my own but i'm too lazy to do all that research lol. is it okay to mix a couple of different brands of conditioners? youre very helpful, thank you (:

  • yes most do. that is why I make my own. this is the only mixture i have. but if you want to try others research is the best. You could just use a plan conditioner then add warm olive oil and honey. I wouldn't suggest mixing a bunch of different conditioners.

  • petroleum???!!

  • no petroleum :-)

  • wow! this deep conditioner is stock full of AWESOME things!! amazing! thanks for sharing!

  • Great video thanks so much for the tips I will have to try this!

  • protein is not bad..but I deep condition every week. Protein every week is too much. It makes your hair strong but too much if makes you hair hard and can dry it out. In this case it can be too much of a good thing.

  • there is a more simpler recipe tht works just as great! Just ingredients consisting of avocadoes, oils, honey and a conditoner. Thats all. Works wonderfully. You just went all out out with it! lol Thanks though! : )

  • Thanks for the tip. I'm familiar with that recipe, but I wanted a deep conditioner with no protein in it. Avocados are full of protein. But that's a great recipe for those who don't mind the protein. Thanks for sharing.

  • I'm glad I read the description because I was going to tell you that the combination you use is full of protein and the last thing need was an egg.I wonder why you use glycerin but not silicon?

  • the glycerin is a moisturizer and penetrates the hair with moisture. A silicon coats the hair and doesn't have the same benefits.

  • who are the other youtubers you mentioned?

  • I wrote it in the description box.

  • This is such a great idea!

  • Looks good! What types of powders are those that you were talking about and how do they benefit your hair?

  • Those are Auryvedic Powders. They're from the Indian culture.

  • I'm going to try this! thanks!

  • Girl, I tried that coconut milk and honey conditioner and my hair loved it! I will try coconut milk with avocado soon.

  • youre skin has a beautiful natural glow...and u give great tips !! IM GOING TO TRY IT RIGHT NOW ~~~

  • great! Let me know how it turns out for you!

  • ok my mom went and bought the stuff for me and i just tried it...and washed it out and im sitting here with my hair up in a towel...but it is sooooooo soft and bouncy and very shiny but not weighed down !!! thank you soo much

  • I know this is off topic, but your sooo pretty :D.

  • Thank you so much!! *blushing*

  • i agree

  • do you make your own skin cream? you're skin is flawless.

  • Thank you! No, I don't make my own skin cream. I have a vid called "Dry Skin Regimen." That vid will show all that I do for my skin (which isn't much at all lol)

  • @SheSingsLovely Why you so..Tense?:D We're all friends.^v^

Btw,This works GREAT! :D -high fives-

  • huh?? tense?? not sure what you're referring to.

  • @SheSingsLovely Eh,Maybe its just me...o-o....But its okay! ^v^

  • wow. you are gorgeous!

    great vid.

    thanks!

  • Thanks so much! :-)

  • I made this DC and this was great for my hair and my daughters. Her hair is very, very dry and she had tons of shine after the DC. I found that it was hard to wash out of her hair. Did you just rinse out or do a CG wash to remove from the hair?

  • not what you mean by CG...but I found that I need to *sometimes* focus on rubbing my scalp clean. Sometimes I will rinse with apple cider vinegar then run my cowash conditioner through it to get rid of the smell (i do this after my dc...sometimes)

  • I felt like maybe others were DC-ing more frequently. Thanks for clearing that up. By the way, your hair is really growing and looks so healthy. :)

  • How frequently do you deep condition? I make my own homemade DC as well and initially planned to do it once per month. But...my hair loves it so much I want to use it mayber once per wk or every two wks. I just don't want to overdo it because I heard from other naturals that too much protein and/or moisture isn't good for your hair. Since my DC is very moisturizing I wanted to make sure I'm not doing it too often.

  • Most naturals DC once a week (including myself). The only way you could over moisturize your hair is if you were to do a moisturizing treatment every day. and don't worry about the protein, just make sure you're not dumping *tons* of protein in your hair every week.

  • I use everything u just mixed but i've never tried them together like you just did, im 4b hair type i think, but the problem is even though i moisturize, my hair dries up b4 d end of the day, i dont really understand the language of my hair. oh i've been natural for 5 months now although its not been easy. :)

  • This is a great recipe.
