Hey everyone ima upcoming 16 year old rapper from NY. I just uploaded a little bullshit verse I made today to get my name out there before I drop my mix tape in aboutamonth. My real name is Chris but when i rap i go by Gatsby. I got this nickname from my friends a while ago because I sell mad shit illegally just like gaztby from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald . I practice all day everyday and truly love hip hop. JUST GIMME A CHANCE YOU WONT REGRET IT
At the end of the song, when Catch Wreck says that black people have suffered years of oppression, he isn't talking about slavery. He's talking about in he 20s-50s when segregation was legal, & in the 60s-70s when civil rights were looked down upon. Slavery was 100+ years ago and isn't an issue. Even today, I still feel the waves of racism. Even being an educated black female in the south, I have been denied A LOT because of my race. Like he said, there is still a lot that needs to be done.
Its 2011 Blacks aren't owed anything anymore, If you are black and at least 40 years old you may be owed something but start acting equal. Im sorry but african american that are young shouldnt be owed anything. seriously if you want equal rights then act like it and quit looking for a hand out.
@PonkieNation were not looking fr a hand out, but to say tht blacks and whites have equal oppurtunities is not really true, (its kinda hard for an entire culture to recover from years of slavery) i know its sad tht its tht way, but it really is,, we are NOT yet equals
@HI276 We have a Black President. I'm tired of hearing we aren't equal. Just a thought who voted for Obama? I'm fairly sure it was alittle bit of everyone if not more Whites...
@PonkieNation but at the same time tht is one person,, just like not all blacks have no oppurtunity, not all blacks have the same oppurtunities as Obama, but to say that on average whites and blacks have the same oppurtunities to be succesful is not at all valid (in my opinion no disrspect)
I'm black and doing just fine. We all have the same opportunities in life, it only matters if we choose to act on them. We all have the option to stay in school and make a good life for ourselves. Being born black, or any race, is no excuse for not living up to your potential.
@BeezyKid Thank you for saying that. Me being white i feel like people are looking to blame other races for their mistakes. But you just got to work hard to make it in this world. I grew up in a poor family but i worked hard and now i'm living decent.
The black dude sounds like he's saying that Watsky hasnt earned it by not being homeless, poor, and black. Bullshit. Watsky is amazing, and I dont care what some black ass nigger has to say about it. I love the nice, decent black people, dont get me wrong, not a racist, but I hate it when you try to blame us for some shit our ancestors did. Grow up dude.
I've listened to this song like 20 times on my i-pod and I really respect how both rappers are being so blunt about what things are really separating the two cultures from coming together. I love this song to death and I love WATSKY!
WATSKY is definitely the 1st of his kind, an artist in it's purest form and Catch Wreck emphasises the state of HipHop he's uncomfortable with... so what. Watsky wins that debate, but ya'll getting all 'Whites Win' about it just taints Watsky's point to the fullest.
The song is incredible, END. And there most likely will never be a track that ever touches on these points (issues) (Facts) of what HipHop has become (a game of blame tennis) ever again. I know that not everyone is like me and cant just see both angles and shut the f*** up. is an extra opinion needed?
And to start a sentence with "Im not a racist but..." is profoundly and world widely considered the ultimate yet clear defence of a deep down racist person. Let alone starting a sentence with "REALLY I am not a racist" . If only 'I'm Not racist' cards REALLY existed, the world would be such a simple place. It's absurd... illogical how dumb you come across by writing that wattless comment... I'm laughing my tits out!
really i am not racist but blacks would not be where they are today if it were not for white people... just saying and not trying to mean any disrespect by that...
really i am not racist but blacks would not be where they are today if it were not for whits people... just saying and not trying to mean any disrespect by that...
Look at raps history, who has had more success? Blacks. P diddy. Jay z. Master p back in the day, nas, dre, tupac, you can continue. And how many whites actually made tons of money with rap? Eminem? One? Thats it? Color has nothing to do with it.
Naw man, this dude starts off by saying "white man needs to stay where it's at" he didn't even answer watsky's question of what's a white mans place in hip hop. Just cus you're white it doesn't mean you'll blow up and be rich. You actually gotta be good.
Thank you Watsky for pointing out not only the blacks were opressed. good history lesson for everyone. and thank you DJ Kool Herc for pioneering the Hip Hop community among other artist from 1978 to this day forward!
Bad ass song but the little conversation in the end is terrible, the black dude sounds like he's only in it for the money which is not what music is really about. I'm just saying that he sounded like a fool, that's all.
@ArtistGirlNikki its talking about how white rappers gotta be fucking amazing to be noticed but if you are an amazing rapper and your white you will blow up into a superstar, so the colored lines will brake you, make you or however it goes is saying being white will make you a star or break you if your just average
@MrChristopher7 I believe that its talking about how whites have been privilaged and african americans have had to work for it but yet the whites still get credit for it where its not deserved since mostly they had the money for it while since the slavery history of african americans. Sorry if a tad messed up
music all starts somewhere and as long as it stays positive it doesn't really matter where it goes.
the colour of you skin doesn't matter as the guy watsky says he is part Jewish and part Irish..well we all KnoW what happened to the Jew's and for you lot who don't know...in the early 1700's there was more Irish slaves than black slaves.
hip hop is the modern version of poetry and as a Brit all I have to say is... Shakespeare, Robbie burns .... etc.
that's all well and good but where do us halfy's stand? O.o

It's the thought that we aren't equal that makes it true. Too many still think we aren't and that's where ignorance comes from.

The african american seems mad and unable to hold a civil discourse on the topic, even in his rhyme schemes and lyrics.
