It's a beauty of a lens isn't it? but I'm considering selling mine and then saving up for a 2.8 IS (most likely only a mark I unless I save enough for a mark II)
I would say that taking of the end cap and then turning the zoom ring is a bad idea. If there's dust flying around near by the inflowing air may be sucked into the insides of the tube. I ruined my 24-105 4L that way.
@starfedrogue Hello very nice unboxing vid... i actually bought 70-200mm f4 IS lens one question does the ZOOM RING doesn't rotate even if you set the camera and lens in to FULL auto??, so it's manual zooming ring then.pardon me with my ignorance im just starting this hobby THANK YOU in advance
Greetings, thanks for the recommendations! I just thought to myself yesterday, how rude of me not to respond! I will thank you by making your channel my first subscription (I honestly have not found anything worth subscribing to yet) ~ thanks again
Hey Starfed, very good unboxing video! I couldn't help but notice how many apps you have on your iPhone, do you happen to have any good photography related applications? I'm always looking!
@MrJamesonKurt Yeah, a couple. I have only got free photography ones so far... "Sylights" lets you draw and share lighting diagrams, "Field Tools" is a depth of field and hyper-focal distance calculator, and "Canon Lenses" is a complete Canon lens database. If you are into astrophotography "Planets" is an awesome night sky app, and "Sunrise Sunset Lite" is invaluable for outdoors or weather-related pics.
I like how with more expensive lenses all the movements happen INSIDE the lens. Where cheaper ones have barrels that move out and in. Or cheapest even turning filters :(
You pay for quality such is obvious. Not to mention BUILD QUALITY.. less plastic more expensive worthy materials!
@DanitGeek Personally I would go with the 550D and the 70-200mm. The 550D gives a blistering set of features for the price and the 70-200 will make it sing.
@CARLOSMENCIAS The price has gone up because of the Earthquake/tsunami in Japan which has affected production and distribution. Fewer lenses with the same demand equals higher prices. Eventually they will come down to pre-quake levels again.
i've got this lens. fantastic quality for a zoom. one of the best zooms canon make. think at 1:40 you meant to say 'not as heavy as the '2.8' version'. the 2.8 mkII is of course desirable but it's bigger and heavy! a lot of pro's even opt for the f4 over the 2.8 for easier handling. if only shooting outdoors this is the chap to get i feel.
@MrLukasDiSparrow I don't have a 60D so I can't really say. The 60D has the same sensor and crop factor as the 7D I use though, so I assume it's just as good.
@Rhysz1 Just when you think you understand the modern photographic world they go and release "system cameras" and "mirrorless cameras". What's going onnnnnnn? :-S
@starfedrogue Blast my lenses! I'm still running an old Canon EOS, The world has passed me by, damn you kind and you newfangled gadgets..... What's next portable transistor radios?
@starfedrogue OMG, $120k for that!!! "more than 12, less than 20 in existence" I went to a page that showed some of the pictures taken with it and they are gorgeous. Some are up to 2 miles away!

@opmdevil Is the 24-105mm not weather sealed? :-O
starfedrogue 4 months ago
@starfedrogue It should have some sealing but they did no good for me.
opmdevil 4 months ago
@opmdevil Nightmare! Did you have to get it serviced?
starfedrogue 4 months ago
p@starfedrogue I had a quote for the cleaning and it's about 250 euros or more. I'll take it serviced propably next month.

@66biboy I think you mean the focusing ring. The lens will auto-focus without turning the ring on the exterior of the barrel.

Which lens is similar to this one for a nikon camera?
locosrayo 5 months ago
@locosrayo No idea, sorry. I don't have a Nikon so I don't really keep abreast of what lenses they release onto the market.

Not as heavy as the IS version??! LOL
Velodynamic 8 months ago
@Velodynamic Yes, obviously I meant to say "not as heavy as the f/2.8 version". Well done for finding the hilarity in an innocuous misstatement.

i hate that this lens is white, doesn't match up with the black body, also too big
lsvtec 1 year ago
@lsvtec Er.. OK. My priorities were reach and sharpness.
starfedrogue 1 year ago
@lsvtec With all the glass inside, it should both big and white, you don't want your lens to crack while using it under the heat, right?

I heard the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 is a great lens and it's only $100 more than the Canon 70-200mm at F4.
