Jazz musicians and those in the know idolized her for her understated technique. Thanks so much for posting this! Also interesting to see a 78 in the US issued as late as 1956.
Very nice console it sounds great, and your putting out more highs with that 78 than a lot of people do with LPs. Nice resotration job. What type of camera did you use to make this video.
Thanks for the kind comments! This video was done a year ago when I only had a really crappy camera but it did make it easy to transfer to YouTube. My more recent videos were are done with Sanyo Xacti HD camera - much better quality...
Hank's got good taste if he likes Jeri Southern. It's odd that "Occasional Man", from 1956, was the only charting release for Jeri. Her signature tune was "You Better Go Now"; she was the originator of "When I Fall in Love"; Jeri recorded so many great songs. I have a 45 copy of this, but have never seen her material on a 78 disc before. The U.S. phased out that speed by '58, replaced by the smaller 45 and long playing 33. (That's a beautiful stereo too.)
@pgh45rpms here in the Uk we was lucky as 78's was phased out in the mid 1960 the 1st 3 Elvis records of 1960 was on 78 not sell on ebay for over £100
the 1st 2 Everly on W bro and Roy Orbison Only The Lonely on london was on 78 too they all bring Hi ££££ when ever on ebay the only 1960 78 i have is Poor me by Adam Faith
Thanks for the comments and subscribing to my videos. This console came with 2 headshells, the one you see playing the 78 is a turnover MONO LP/78 chrystal cartridge and the one at the back is the STEREO only cartridge. As this was the first Stereogram in Australia, it had a seperate cartridge for this purpose. See my other videos on this console to see it in action, search for KRIESLER STEREO RADIOGRAM - Circa 1960. Thanks!
A jazz disc jockey in St. Louis introduced me to Jeri Southern's music back in 1956. He was a rare jock who actually stopped records to comment on them and would proceed to play a specific section of the record again. He pointed out Jeri's sensitive phrasing. Her voice was so unique. Thanks from another appreciator of this woman's talent.
When I go swimming I wear nothing but a great big smile for the occasional man Jerri makes it sound so classy! LOL. Hank is a star to. I hope my unit sounds this good when its finished. I do love the ding, it gives it a bit more character. Thanks for the vids. Cheers, Rob.
Yeah, that was the LOGO for Kriesler, it's a large V with the letter 'K' in the middle. Yes, Hank trained me well, we both go outside to do our business! ;)
Very nice console and record!

Love this, but still like Ernie Wilkin's swingin' chart for Sarah Vaughan a bit better.

The quality of sound, for a 78 and 78 player, is amazing. Great song, thank you.

I found a 45 of it on Ebay, couple of years ago. Any other favorite jazz vocalists? How about Jackie and Roy?
