I find Wallis disturbing and extremely disturbing. It bothers me that he avoids the issue of abortion. That is bad. But what is worse is that he is a respected preacher of a set of values that lead to some of the worse oppression and genocide we have ever seen on this planet. What does it say about us that he has risen to such heights in a Christian church?

He said YOU should take care of the poor and the widows, not the Government. If you want to help the poor, you should be a Capitalist. Capitalism is the only humane option. If liberals are so great why was the homeless rate in America until the progressive liberals took over in 1913 .01% of the population and it is about 14% of the population now? Land argues conservatives give more to charities but this lacks context. Liberals are for policies that help the poor & the poor vote Democrat, but the poor liberals don't have much money to give to charities. It's no merit rich Republicans give more dollars. Do Republicans give a higher percentage of their income than liberals? States w/ lowest income disparity are Democratic & give more money in taxes which pays for the federally-funded programs in high income disparity Republican states.

The sad truth is that there ae MILLIONS who would rather hoard their money rather than help others. @Goohuman Uh.. no! Wallis and many other churches realize that the effort and work must be started from WITHIN the church. After meeting some volunteers of Wallis' it was clear that ANYONE could volunteer, that said, many were believers in Christ or some other denomination. So the BIZARRE idea that Wallis want to force anyone to do anything is at best a unfounded conclusion.

Lands point is based on works. Not on Faith or Grace, most conservative Christians will give to a "deserving" cause thats not grace. Jesus said" Your righteousness must exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees.

Wallis confuses prioritizing issues with solutions to those issues. Certainly poverty is an issue. But it requires a different government response than abortion. If the unborn are human beings like us, then the law must protect their right to life too. However, gov't can't legislate against poverty because it can ban it.

Really, Land, no other country EVER has contributed to freedom or international freedom and stability in the world today? Only the United States? I'm also sure that the United States hasn't done anything like help overthrow democratically elected leaders in South America, supported Oppressive dictators like Pinochet, or helped overthrow another country's government because it benefited an American company like the United Fruit Company either. The US is clearly the only moral country.
