"tough" does not begin to explain them.
J. B. Hunt illegally fired me from the DCS/Staples account in Dayville, CT for refusing an unsafe dispatch. They offered me $35,000 hush money to keep quiet about it and go away but I refused. I told them that I don't want the money I just want my job back. J.B. It's unfortunate that this man is not a rare case in this industry. Lot's of stress, can't always eat at regular times, sometimes do the starve and gorge thing which is terrible. Or sometimes can't park anywhere close to accessible facilities b/c you run out of hrs waiting to be loaded or unloaded.

... Forced to drive at fucked up hours, in the worst conditions, only because your dispatcher fucked up! Missing family event's, birthday's, anniversary, holiday's! Oh yeah, and spending your pay on eating at shit holes, designed to rob decent drivers of their hard earned income. Company's not paying drivers for services rendered, even though they would charge others for similar services.Don't make any difference what company your with.
There's nothing glamorous about trucking any more!
After 25 years of driving big truck, I know the down fall's first hand. I've seen dozens of divorces, family's split up, friends dieing! Drivers having heart attacks! Injury's caused by unsafe working condition's! Dispatcher's fucking you, so they look good in their supervisor's eye's! The good is definitely out weighed by the bad!
I gave and gave and gave some more, untill there was no more to give! Still, the company wanted more. Absorbing daily cost's, sacrificing hours for free...
Officially started 18 when I got my CDL, decided to enlist in the Marine Corps. Trucking may not have much money in it a lot of the time, but who cares. Any Marine or Soldier knows that money isnt everything.
Great line brother "It's not the end, just the turning of a page". Life moves on, although not everyone wants it to happen. Trucking is a way of life. I started on the farm at 11 years old...bout the time I could reach the pedals haha! But, being a Marine 0311, always brings me back to the trucking buisness.
This is a sad video cause my dad got pulled off the road for a month about 5 years ago for stress, it was a hard time cause my family was depending on him and i wasnt old enough to work. Truckers are the hardest workers and they deserve more recognition and respect than they do now. Alot of people see them as bad guys and theyre not, atleast most of them, and Thank you truckers for everything yall do.
I was OTR for 5 months. Loved every minute of it, well there was one part in NY that gave me my grey hair, but otherwise it was one of the best experiences. I will return some day when conditions are better. Perhaps as a tank yanker. Then again I have to get my BMI down again.
realy good video u have done i have see mabye some off ur video i love them all they are so good video this video was realy good my dad is a truck driver to i am with him sometimes at the road but now he has lose his job becuse a stupid accident and he lose his truck =/ well keep trucking =P
Thanks for the answer Sean and good luck on the Ice Roads! Beautiful quiet places out there. And it is really nice to be able to contact a man like you even from the other side of the ocean!
They must not be Canadians - Canadians should have some other choice if so. If you don't like just quit am I wrong? Just try at least. There are ways, even now. I don't understand....
@khunboris it doesn't matter where they are from, or who they are. Some are just bitter, some just don't think they can do better. Some were lied to, promised weath. But they don't realize what driving is all about. They want the quick dollar, but money only comes with hard work. Trucking is what you make it. True, there is less and less money in it. But if you driver for the fun of it, meeting people, seeing the sights, you can make some money
Oh Yeah... trucking is definitely not a way for a quick dollar I think. But I cannot tell that sitting my ass of in the office much better though. There are a lot of whiners here too.... and the situation in whole... in country, in the World. There are some "friends" who can help to move to Canada as a truck driver, money wise for sure... I don't know if I can trust them yet. It gotta be only a long-haul to be eligible to remain as a trucker for me as far as I heard.
@seansuth some do it for money other do it for the fun for the thot of traveling and for the adventure i know when i can get behind i will be doing it with pride. i lost my uncle in a wreck 2 month ago and my cuzin isnt doing good i work in a mechanic shop i always just think hes there watching me when i jump in thos trucks
and now u see people who just dont care anymore its sad to see one guy on the side of the road and others just go right on buy
Sean.... I wanna ask you one think cause I believe you. Why people you mentioned - all those whiners and only steering wheel holders - why they do the thing then? Who are they? Canadians by birth (talking of Canada that I consider to move) or may be some of my damn co-citizens trying to remain there having lost everything back home country? It's so likely for them.... trying to find a happier place but failed with trucking.
I don't know why people think it is so hard to be healthy while trucking, it is no different than a cubicle dweller in a office that sits all day too. Many of them that I see smoke, eat unhealthy, and are under a lot of stress also, but no one says stay away from office jobs, in fact we tell our kids to go to school get a education so you can get a office job like that running on that hamster wheel everyday. Dealing with office politics, long hours, and bullshit. Find your niche and excel at it.
Oh really like that man? No jobs for a new truckers? Does that mean you cannot start trucking form now, get the CDL? If you're foreigner ever? Sad thing if so....
Best wishes to you and your family...... Look forward to running into u someday in the future.......... Get better so you can get back on the road......KEEP ON TRUCKIN'.......
Best of luck to you buddy.. hope everything goes well for you and the family... God Bless ya buddy.......I been a driver /equipment operator all my life and dont know what i'd do if I couldnt do it any more.. I can feel for you friend...
Trucking is a shitty job. I did it for 8 months. It was the biggest waste of my time and money(schooling). The $'s not very good unless you want to live on the road. Even then, soo depressing.
8 months huh? See this is the difference between being a TRUCKER, and driving a truck. TRUCKERS do in fact like to live on the road, hence a TRUCKER life. YOU, just thought there was quick cash at hand. Go back to flipping burgers, making minimum wage. 8 months, that's not even considered driving a truck, that's just tooling around!
@seansuth Amen to that brother. I am 23, been doing this for almost 5 years now, and I love every minute of every day of it. There is no better feeling then hauling, 40,000lbs of payload behind you. DOT can put as many restrictions they want, it wont kill my love for this industry and the open road.
@seansuth It took this guy only 8 months at finding out that trucking is a poor carrier choice. And you call him stupid for getting out so quick? Fuck your the dumb ass! How long before you figure it out? How many companies have you now driven for? How many times have been fucked by those company's, and been layed over, with out pay, while your family wishes you were home? Yeah, you'll learn. It just takes longer for some!
Yeah, my experience sucked. I didnt suck at it though. It was exciting in the beginning. Then it became boring. There are a lot more things to do with your life that being stuck in a box for weeks at a time. Also, ending up like Eskimo Sean is sad. I would like to live a healthy life beyond 60(average truckers life expectancy). Someones gotta do it though.
8 months; thats still a pup.. ive been driving for 4 years now, and im still a pup at only 24 years of age, ive clocked up just a tad over 800,000km... man, but i keep forgetting to take my camera to show the Australian sights
truck driving is not easy on the health always stressed out worrying about family always hard dead lines to meet just thinking about it makes you smoke one cigarette after another then dont exsersise its not tht easy .somtimes things happen for a reason the best of luck in your recovery enjoy your family i.m sure they will engoy your presents
Sean......not only are your videos really good, but the words you put down are also touching. I have been off the road for almost four yrs. now and have been regretting it everyday. There is nothing like waking up in what could prob'ly be called "a different world" everyday. Nothing like meeting new people. If you stop a one place all the time you are gonna see a lot of familiar faces, but there is always gonna be some new ones also. Keep up the good work. Gonna sift through more vids now.
It only reminded me how much I love this work , hope I wont have to stop doing it untill I retire, great vid man and hope You'll be back on the road soon...greatings from Ireland!
of course, eat healthy keep up with your medical check ups exercise when you can and don't eat from the fast food stops. If you have a fridge in your truck, buy lunch meats and all the good stuff and eat from your "home". If you have to eat from a fast food place or a truck stop try to eat from the salad bar
2 bad the people don't apreciate what we do for then. we put our lives in danger and we are far from our love ones and we are killing ourselves slowly just to do something it get in your veins pure diesel...to all the drivers 10-4
Not often do tears come to my eyes like this video has done. Sean you and Kelly , Darren and his family as well a Steve are the greatest people I have come to know. you all took in a fellow Trucker and helped him in every possible way you all could. I believe John will be back truckin up soon and I hope you and Smiley get out there soon as well. As i Wipe away the tears in my eyes God blesss 3's and 8's.........
Is there any update on Bigfoot?? How is his health?? Did he stay here in California? I totally agree. Trucking is not a job, it is a lifestyle that we all benefit from, and the truckers do not get very much respect for that. I respect them and the appreciate them for what they do. They are Road Soldiers.
I got an email from him a while ago. I don't want to speak for him, but he's not on the road... don't know if he will soon or not. I believe he said he would make an update video soon
you can see the what else can i do in him. for most of us the answer is hmmm
all the loopholes are closing in on us slowly but surely .
one of my coworkers failed his annual so he went through another surgery got another stent just so he could drive, now hes laid up with complications he could died just to get some to sign a piece of paper /
thanx driver and although i can't say i'll keep it shiny side up, i sure can say i will do my best at it. you never know what you'll come up upon but you can be prepared for it which i'm always expecting the unexpected, know whats goin to happen before it does, you'll be able to avoid it faster. like i said brother when my passenger seat is empty your welcome to ride along.
this here is little britches sayin keep on trucking bud even if it is just in your mind, im 10-7 keep the big one between the dicthes, p.s you will always be in my mind and my passenger seat is always an empty spot if ya ever wantto ride and still enjoy the trucking fun/lifestyle.
this driver is right its not just a job its a lifestyle, most say you can always find another lifestyle/job let me tell ya its not easy your basically leaving your home (truck) behind. if you remember when you first moved away from the house youve been raised all your life in thats how it is when you leave trucking, its truckers like this driver that got me into trucking ever since i was 6 yrs old and now im 30 and yes i drive truck, my hat comes off and air horn blows in respect to this DRIVER
it's so sad that so many people don't respect truck drivers. like the people that cut them off and start hitting their brakes right in front of trucks. seriously, show some appreciation to the people that help you live your lives.
Very true. without us truckers America would stop dead in its tracks, many people don't believe that but it is the truth. Truck drives deserve a little more appreciation of what we do.
don't cry you'll be back, having more stress and health problems when you get back in the truck 29 days from now. you should use your time off to find a good job near the house. I hope you stay healthy and find a better job.
ive never been a trucker and i can tell how hard its for him its like trucking is his number favourtie thing to do but there is also other things in live and i als odid get the shivers whille i watch this video...god bless you all
I have never drove a truck myself, but i have know since i was 5 yeras old that i wanna be a trucker, and i stil want that, and my uncel have been taking me with him in his truck, and trucking is not a job it's a lifestyle. it is not easy on giving up that, my other uncel did'nt wanna quit, but healt befor lifestyle.
Having a heart problem sure makes it a lot easier when it comes to quiting the smokes. I know, as it happened to me. I drove long distance for about 20 years and now I am driving a transit bus. I do miss the road but at the same time I'm glad to home every night. Take care of yourself as we all only have one kick at this can. Thanks for the vid.
Good luck trucking there. My only advice is remember its a lifestyle not a job. Nothing you haul is ever worth your life or the lives of others on the road, so keep it safe and don't take risks. Other than that enjoy the open road.
Good job sean...i see john is on the up n up walkin talkin, thats great u should feel proud to kno u are good friend when other's are in need. u sir are a all star!!!
Great video. Hopefully you get your health problems taken care of. Put your health and your family first.
I got out of truck driving this past February after 14 years on the road and I did it on my own mostly for health reasons. I'm doing much better now and am riding a bike 12 miles a day after work. There's a few things I miss about the road but not the detrimental effects on one's health.
My heart goes out to you my friend. I 've been on and off a truck for 15 yrs. I agree with you about your family 1st. Given you best in your new adventures in life and on the road. Keep it safe and the dirty side down. Best Wishes...
I left for 12 years after a wreck I was in. Scared the crap out of me. Things sometimes happen for a reason. You'll get it figured out and if it's meant to be, you'll be back. Good luck.
sniff...thisis one of the most heartfelt videos on YT, i know its been said numerous times, but i dont think John could ask for a better friend that you Sean
Hell yah. well said!, i had to hang up the keys permanently, i miss hte days as well, i know hte feelings hes got right now. and will have. BUT he can get back in, when hes able to. so things are not bad , jsut need some time off to heal up
Sean, If there was an illustration in the dictionary under the word brother" there would have to be a picture of you. Words can't express how powerful this video is. John, I pray you have a speedy and complete recovery and get to get back to your home on the road soon.
Wow....I had tears in my eyes watching this....Don't worry, John! I know you're on the road to full recovery, and you'll be back in the saddle in no time!
You'll never escape the call of the road, and the white lines are in your veins.
This country needs truckers like you...with your heart, and dedication, you are destined to do what you love, and do best.
trucking sucks. thinking about doing it again makes me sick to my stomach. If you like to be treated like shit and working for free trucking might just be for you, though.

Oh yeah, and spending your pay on eating at shit holes, designed to rob decent drivers of their hard earned income. Company's not paying drivers for services rendered, even though they would charge others for similar services.Don't make any difference what company your with.
There's nothing glamorous about trucking any more!
kanukster 1 year ago
@kanukster that's not just the drivers working or driving odd hours that's the transportation sector as a hole
dmadalton 1 year ago

Alot of people see them as bad guys and theyre not, atleast most of them, and Thank you truckers for everything yall do.

konacjetanak777 1 year ago
I was OTR for 5 months. Loved every minute of it, well there was one part in NY that gave me my grey hair, but otherwise it was one of the best experiences. I will return some day when conditions are better. Perhaps as a tank yanker. Then again I have to get my BMI down again.

They must not be Canadians - Canadians should have some other choice if so. If you don't like just quit am I wrong? Just try at least. There are ways, even now. I don't understand....
khunboris 1 year ago
@khunboris it doesn't matter where they are from, or who they are. Some are just bitter, some just don't think they can do better. Some were lied to, promised weath. But they don't realize what driving is all about. They want the quick dollar, but money only comes with hard work. Trucking is what you make it. True, there is less and less money in it. But if you driver for the fun of it, meeting people, seeing the sights, you can make some money
seansuth 1 year ago
Oh Yeah... trucking is definitely not a way for a quick dollar I think. But I cannot tell that sitting my ass of in the office much better though. There are a lot of whiners here too.... and the situation in whole... in country, in the World. There are some "friends" who can help to move to Canada as a truck driver, money wise for sure... I don't know if I can trust them yet. It gotta be only a long-haul to be eligible to remain as a trucker for me as far as I heard.
khunboris 1 year ago
@seansuth some do it for money other do it for the fun for the thot of traveling and for the adventure i know when i can get behind i will be doing it with pride. i lost my uncle in a wreck 2 month ago and my cuzin isnt doing good i work in a mechanic shop i always just think hes there watching me when i jump in thos trucks
and now u see people who just dont care anymore its sad to see one guy on the side of the road and others just go right on buy
wintersfaith 1 year ago
It's so likely for them.... trying to find a happier place but failed with trucking.
khunboris 1 year ago
i hear you john. it's one of those things that are so hard to give up. hang in there you will pull through.
madflyer1093 1 year ago
I don't know why people think it is so hard to be healthy while trucking, it is no different than a cubicle dweller in a office that sits all day too. Many of them that I see smoke, eat unhealthy, and are under a lot of stress also, but no one says stay away from office jobs, in fact we tell our kids to go to school get a education so you can get a office job like that running on that hamster wheel everyday. Dealing with office politics, long hours, and bullshit. Find your niche and excel at it.

Trucking is a shitty job. I did it for 8 months. It was the biggest waste of my time and money(schooling). The $'s not very good unless you want to live on the road. Even then, soo depressing.
oaklandraider81 2 years ago
8 months huh? See this is the difference between being a TRUCKER, and driving a truck. TRUCKERS do in fact like to live on the road, hence a TRUCKER life. YOU, just thought there was quick cash at hand. Go back to flipping burgers, making minimum wage. 8 months, that's not even considered driving a truck, that's just tooling around!
seansuth 2 years ago 2

theartonthewall 1 year ago
@seansuth Amen to that brother. I am 23, been doing this for almost 5 years now, and I love every minute of every day of it. There is no better feeling then hauling, 40,000lbs of payload behind you. DOT can put as many restrictions they want, it wont kill my love for this industry and the open road.
SuperTruckerJay 1 year ago
@seansuth It took this guy only 8 months at finding out that trucking is a poor carrier choice. And you call him stupid for getting out so quick? Fuck your the dumb ass! How long before you figure it out? How many companies have you now driven for? How many times have been fucked by those company's, and been layed over, with out pay, while your family wishes you were home? Yeah, you'll learn. It just takes longer for some!

Yeah, my experience sucked. I didnt suck at it though. It was exciting in the beginning. Then it became boring. There is nothing like waking up in what could prob'ly be called "a different world" everyday. Nothing like meeting new people. Is it even possible to drive a truck for a living and still have a healthy lifestyle? God bless the truckers who put it on the line every day.
Circusmnkee 2 years ago 15
of course, eat healthy keep up with your medical check ups exercise when you can and don't eat from the fast food stops. If you have a fridge in your truck, buy lunch meats and all the good stuff and eat from your "home". If you have to eat from a fast food place or a truck stop try to eat from the salad bar
JoeOnTheRoad 2 years ago
yes it is possible but takes a hellacious amount of discipline...apples instead of chips and veg sandwiches instead of big macs...you get the point.

They are Road Soldiers.

lifes twists are surely not fair.

thanx driver and although i can't say i'll keep it shiny side up, i sure can say i will do my best at it. you never know what you'll come up upon but you can be prepared for it which i'm always expecting the unexpected, know whats goin to happen before it does, you'll be able to avoid it faster. like i said brother when my passenger seat is empty your welcome to ride along.

this here is little britches sayin keep on trucking bud even if it is just in your mind, im 10-7 keep the big one between the dicthes, p.s you will always be in my mind and my passenger seat is always an empty spot if ya ever wantto ride and still enjoy the trucking fun/lifestyle.

this driver is right its not just a job its a lifestyle, most say you can always find another lifestyle/job let me tell ya its not easy your basically leaving your home (truck) behind. if you remember when you first moved away from the house youve been raised all your life in thats how it is when you leave trucking, its truckers like this driver that got me into trucking ever since i was 6 yrs old and now im 30 and yes i drive truck, my hat comes off and air horn blows in respect to this DRIVER

I got out of truck driving this past February after 14 years on the road and I did it on my own mostly for health reasons. I'm doing much better now and am riding a bike 12 miles a day after work. There's a few things I miss about the road but not the detrimental effects on one's health.
