  • the tiburon looks and sounds just SO DAMN SEXY! but WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO WITH THE ENGINE`???? 2.7L V6 =167hp? 0,o

  • The 3.3L 249 hp V6 in the Sonata is a great engine. The only problem is there isn't much in the way of aftermarket stuff for it. I had to have parts made for it (Exhaust, Cams, and head work) to get some real gains on the orginal setup. Not cheap but I was able to wake it up a little. The Tiburon has more parts avalible and can be made to be pretty quick!

  • Why in the world would you do dig runs in a curvy road like this?

  • Interesting. I know the 2.7s really wake up with an aftermarket blower. As far as the Sonata? I've driven a few 3.3s and the thing that really holds them back is torque management which you can't disable.. at least as far as I know.

  • @st4vtec Yeah, the 6 speed.

  • i raced a sonata today OMG there so slow i toyed with him like a geo metro... I knew there slow but damn!

  • @gonza1152 It depends on the year and engine. They can have anything from a 110hp 2.4l up to a 249hp 3.3l V6, or even the new 274hp 2.0l Turbo. As can be expected, there is a wide variety in their acceleration times.

Sure, there are cars that can toy with a 249hp 3.3l V6 model like the one in this video, but unless you own something pretty badass you're not going to mistake this car for a Geo Metro.

  • @187sks The 2009/10 SE v6 generates 249 at 4500 rpm. If you have ever driven one you would realize they generate almost 300hp at 6200. The Camary v6 on the other hand generates 269hp at 4700 but that is it. Anything over and the performance goes down!

  • @gonza1152 The sonata also shifts slow as hell and has poor throttle response. If those issues were fixed it would be a good bit quicker.

  • @gonza1152 09 sonatas are not slow. unless you have a corvetter or camaro ss or mustang gt or 350z or some other car that is faster.

  • @gonza1152 Ive seen a 2009 Hyuandai Sonata running around town that every once in a while lights em up foe fun. I definately think they/2009 Hyundai Sonata would smoke alot of camrys ive seen and im talking the v6 SE. For any person to say they toyed with a v6 Sonata they would have to have over 300 horse and be a true sports car not a family sedan like the Sonata. And even then there are alot of 400 hp motors that just cant get it right that might have problems with a 2009 v6 Hyundai SE.

  • @gonza1152 The v6 Sonata in our town actually beats the new 2012 2.0 turbo. Dont know why but i dont know the guy.

  • a sonata 2006+ 3.3 always beat any tiburon!I have one and I know what I say!

  • Wow this is sad....i'm sure has hell glad they came out with the Genesis coupes.....just saying.

  • @notriouschris Yeah, the Tiburon is definitely not fast for a sporty car. But honestly aside from being a bit slower than it should be, and wrong wheel drive, it's a great car. Without the Tiburon the Genesis Coupe either wouldn't have happened, or would have been executed a lot worse because Hyundai wouldn't have been able to use what they learned on the Tiburon to make the Genesis Coupe as good as it is.

  • this is the 3.3 v6 but not the se/sport model. the se/sport model would have stiffer susspension and navigate those winding roads alot better. than the gls or limited model.

  • weight ! ! ! weight ! ! ! weight ! ! ! weight ! ! !

Sonata is not a sport car like tiburon .

if you want check POWER - hook a rope [or chain] on the back both cars and test power this way ... I can tell you winner without this test :)

    P.S. manul vs. automatic : > ? ? ?

    What are we tolking abaut : > ? ? ?

  • lulz u kidding me man. even if u did that a 3.3 v6 would pull a tiburon. HUGE torque advantage. and stock for stock power to weight ratios sonata has the edge. sure the tiburon looks better

  • weight ! ! ! weight ! ! ! weight ! ! ! weight ! ! !

  • @st4vtec thats a cheesy ass limited or gls. no spoiler! HAHA GET IT!

  • @st4vtec yes it was and if this is the 2009 sonata sport/se there is no way the tb could win! the limeted or gs version of the 2009 sonata might get beat on those roads. but not the se. the 2009 sonata se stock runs 14.3-14.8

  • I have owned both. Stock for stock the Sonata is faster.

  • Yeah, I was driving the Tib but it's not my car. It's tough to get things right on a car that you don't drive regularly. It was pretty close but I agree, I think the Tib would edge out the Sonata if both drivers were perfect.

  • Those new Sonatas are pretty fast for a family sedan

  • I cant wait for the 4cyl turbo sonata

  • They look beautiful, it's kinda funny looking at the generations of Sonata, they don't really resemble each other. The 02-05 years are my second favorite styling wise.

  • I have a feeling they are gonna be pretty fast. Do you know if you can get the turbo in a standard tranny?

  • rarrrr

  • very nice race tib sounds awesome my buddy has a sonata with i/e and it runs a 14.9

  • Thanks. I hope to get to the track soon and get some numbers.

  • @shonzy7 v33sonata? lol

  • @downhiller88 haha YEAH!
