  • @LilText850 When you use a lifting belt, you need to use the Valsalva maneuver, which involves HOLDING your breath and creating pressure in your abdomen. This creates a tightness against the belt which in turn supports your lower back as well as the rest of your torso.

  • This is a common issue with the valsalva maneuver (using a belt with breath holding to increase intrabdominal pressure). The increase in abdominal pressure will alter blood pressure if the pressure is generalized to the entire torso and not just the abdomen. If the increased pressure causes vasoconstriction of the cerebral blood vessels long enough, you pass out. The cure? Focus on abdomen pressure. If you feal pressure building in your face, your doing it wrong. Red face = wrong technique

  • Squats are a lot easier to do when your legs are spread out as far as this guys'. Bad form. Try actually squatting with your legs slightly wider than your shoulders (not like you're about to attempt the splits), with your knees facing forward, not diagonally out. Still impressive with the amount of weight he's doing, no denying that. But his form sucks. especially since he's supposedly training for a pro competition.

    Yes, I started out by saying that I don't disagree with his point of it being acceptable to hold one's breath. However, to throw out a blanket assumption about medical professionals is beyond stupid. He's probably never heard a doctor claim that holding one's breath is risky; rather he's making up some imagined dissident opinion.

  • Inhaling and holding your breath in your diaphragm helps with intra-abdominal pressure which means tighter core which means you can hold you form A LOT better. You cant go as heavy as you can without holding your breath. Now, if your doing high reps then that's a different story. I have some experience in bodybuilding and powerlifting, so i have an idea of what I'm talking about.

  • @amitai3 All stars are actually pretty decent shoes for lifting because they are flat soled shoes. Most shoes people wear to the gym give you elevation at the heel, which is pretty not OK when doing squats or deadlifts.
