  • I don't know Russian, so it kinda sounds French. (I speak English/French)

  • @SlinkierFugur French used to be taught in Soviet Schools,especially back around the 60's. The languages are not based on a common root, however I can understand how it can sound similar to french. Some of the words are almost direct paraphrases of French or German. For example, the generic Russian word for sandwich is "buterbrod" (prounced booter-broad) which is essentially the words 'butter' and 'bread' taken a paraphrasing of 'Brot Buttern" or "Brot mit Butter". {cont}

  • @SlinkieFugur unfortunately Karlson Returns with English subtitles was DMCA-removed from Youtube by claim from the current copyright owner. Sorry, but you can find a transcript or or the cartoon on other streaming sites.

  • @NomenNescioNY Both my parents learned 10 years of French and speak / write / read it fluently. They can easily carry out a conversation in French, and we've spent many times in Quebec & Montreal, Canada being some 6 hours away by car from NYC.

    Cheers!

  • @SlinkierFugur you are not the first saying that... but nothing to do with a french.

    @anyalove1 I'm glad you're enjoying it!

    I grew up with these and other classic Astrid Lindgren fairytales. The same goes for the Brothers Grimm, Edgar Alan Poe and of course the Russian children's authors.

    Children were very important in the CCCP society and one realizations that the Communists came to is that they recognized the fact for highly skilled labor force, and an educated populus. I recall many foreign folks coming to the CCCP during the 70s/80s for Uni/Post grad work.

  • @anyalove1 School began at 7yo, lasted 10 years, 6 days a week, 3-5 hrs of homework daily, the teachers were super-anal about penmanship and crossing out. By 3rd grade we were doing Algebra/Geometry (10yo). 5th grade intro to Calculus, engineering intro etc. Some went into the trades after this and others went on to learn. My cousin, 2 years older than I am (female) won the Russian/CCCP equivalent of a "Summa Cum Laude". Each school in a district competes for a spot in top "oblast" (State)Comp!

  • Thanks for uploading a great quality version!

  • @CopseGrinder23 You're very welcome!

  • @NomenNescioNY these are so awesome. i loev prastakvashena and cheburashka too.
