Pink Floyd will always be the greatest band ever. Pink Floyd is not just music, but it is art and even a style of living. What made them awesome was the contrast in the voices and styles of Gilmour and Waters. Waters brought on an intense style with his voice and music while Gilmour brought on a peaceful and smooth style. When they put those two contrasting styles together it was a match made in heaven. Truly the best.
After hearing this... I just can't understand how there's people in the world (my roomate f.e.) who don't like Pink Floyd and other great bands, but is always listening to the marketed shit we have today, like Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, and all that... Tell me, how's that possible? I can understand Calculus and Physics, but I sure can't understand that.
@pedroca2424 -- I think you're onto something. "Cookie cutter" people will gravitate towards cookie cutter music... Abstract thinkers will seek inspirational tracks such as this. We can't all be rocket scientists, but we can't expect everybody to recognize brilliance when it hits them like an 18 wheeler truck, either. :)
Gilmour was really on top of his game here. Probably one of the best live solos I've heard for this song. His pinch harmonics from 3:19 to 3:25 sound amazing.
If you can feel music, and you love music. Then you love Gilmour and his playing. There is no one else that plays with that feeling he has. Im happy to get to listen to this god. Thumps up if you love music, feel music and love this.
i love the feel to this song, the words give hope of what could be, while the guitar solo says instead "this is our world we must make it a better place in anyway we can or we will lose it" unlike roger who makes the words too damn forcfull, dave instead keeps the words light but makes the music do all the talking to the heart instead of to the head.
this is the best live version on youtube. the ones from the sound of thunder stuff has too much backround singers and not enough keyboards, the ones from the pulse stuff is just boots but this is perfectly balanced. its a shame the best version of the emotional and beautiful tune does not have the rest of the floyd in it. would have been way better with rick on keys. the singers are perfect though, not too loud yet you can feel their presence.
@aweoig Weird to see Dave without Nick Mason (who btw, for those of you who don't know, is the only ORIGINAL member of PF) but I do like Wallis' delivery. I love Dave's solo here. The master........as usual!
@zdlore1985 I agree....to a point. But Nick Mason was there at the beginning.......and remained through all the changes....Syd, the addition of DG, the split when Waters left. That's what I was trying to say, I guess.
The only major segway Mason made was going with Gilmour and Rick Wright (and still performed as PF, by the way) instead of with Waters....a smart decision on his part imho......and it IS unusual to see DG performing here without Mr. Mason. They are a perfect match.
no, they stuck other players with him at the anniversary.......phil manzenara who played with him on the on an island tour played at the anniversary though...
I would love to see him do this one of his Steinbergers. The whole "Momentary Lapse..." album was recorded using a Steinberger. Listen to that album and "Division Bell"...you'll hear a difference. I think "Momentary" has more "energy" than "Division". Although David set up his famous red Strat with active EMGs like a Steinberger, it seems he really has to work harder on his Strat to get that similar Steinberger studio album sound. Check out David Gilmour and Kate Bush doing a performance live.
Steinberger guitars were a breakthrough at the time during the 1980s. There were two shapes: a square shape dubbed "the broom stick" and the other was a Stratocaster style but the bottom is recessed towards the tremolo. The uniqueness was the tremolo/bridge setup and of course the headless (no headstock) design. The neck on all of them are made of a carbon composite material to prevent warping. Most of these guitars have active EMG pickups while others had passive ones.
I somehow messed something on my additional comment so I deleted it, but if you're interested in a Steinberger look for an original Newburgh model (Made in the USA)...look for an 'N' before the serial number...80s models had four numerical numbers while the 90s models had five, Examples: N8942 and N10324...just random numbers to give you an idea. Later on, the "Spirits" appeared, and these are Korean made models licensed through Steinberger which was sold to Gibson at the time when this occured
Gilmour looks like a mad genius.

That's Gary Wallis on drums I believe, Jon Carin on keyboards, and Sam Brown on backing vocals. They were also on the past two Floyd Tours.
