  • When peoples chips aer down it's easiet to leave, but that is when they need you most. Get em clean if they are willing i couldnt of done it alone

  • Being a jealous lover, I would never compete with a bottle - time to leave!

  • I was driving to work tonight when I heard this song for the first time thinking it must be a fairly new one. This gal sings so fricken BEAUTIFUL, and the music and the beat to the song it was one of those "I will look until I find it" and THANKS TO YOU TUBE I did. The name "Conrete Blonde" threw me for a loop as well, never heard of that either? Thanks to WIKIPEDIA I now get it and much to my surprise the song came out in 1990, TWENTY years ago?

"Gee aint it funny how time slips away" (Willy)

  • @TheTuggerrype Psssst that's a bass :) Now if you meant bass guitar, well ... then say that :P

  • @MeanestCoachEver It was a bass! It was a Bass!! Sorry :) anyway i reckon they should invent a one string thing that me and the rest of the world can play. Wish I had tallent :)

  • What kind of Bass is she using?

  • I saw Concrete Blonde last night here In Portland, OR and was just blown away. No one has a voice like Johnette. No one makes music like this anymore.

  • @Xenapage i wish i had her voice... alas... mine sounds like i have been smoking for 80 years. haha

  • her voice is haunting. such a powerfull song. Love it.

  • Tears in my eyes every time I listen!

  • i hear you, i feel the same. when a song brings chills to my spine i know it is special!

  • this was a departure from what alternative rock was doing in the late 80's, more grown up, gritty, dark, working class than depeche mode, etc.

  • When I was younger I used to think this song was about enabler/addict. But, I think it really is about unconditional love.

  • So am i....God, I wish I had the money........

  • This sounds as good today as it did the day it was released.

  • what ever happend to joey

  • @falklandmistake - He drank himself to death. :-(

  • @falklandmistake - Concrete Blonde lead singer Johnette Napolitano wrote it about Marc Moreland of the band Wall Of Voodo. Moreland died of liver failure in 2003

  • concrete blonde me all over!!! so dreamy yearning and tell it all say it again..i want more!!!

  • 1990 wow....very good song all the way around and her voice is haunting to the core.... the best.

  • I do love this tune

  • I remember listening to the radio and this song came on many years ago. I immediately grabbed hold of it and it still circles in my brain now...lol Great song, great group! Thanks for the post.

  • my god 1990 seems like a life time ago,, i had my first break up just when this song came out wow still gives me chills makes my eyes water

  • damn she sexy

  • I was @ a show in Saint Louis a while ago. It was the day after the person "Joey" was written about died. They played it ( sans drummer - quit the show before) & there wasn't a dry eye in the house - band or audience.

  • @iktomi76 omg, wow I was there... both - at the show in Kansas City when the drummer didn't show and in St. Louis, at the Pageant if I remember right. Was a weekend I'll always remember. And yes, Marc Moreland (i.e. Joey) passed away just before these shows. We sure did have tears... everyone did!

  • my uncle loved this song.....he is gone....and dearly missed....after watching him fight his secret war

  • I'm not........

  • So am I : (

  • sometimes i feel like Joey

  • I remember spring break sitting at a beach condo with a friend and we were irritated that MTV kept playing this song when we wanted to hear Slaughter 'Up All Night.' He He. Appreciate this song now.

  • Geez.....I almost forget about this song. Used to hear this all the time back in the 90's. Love the vocals!

  • Still a phenomenal, moving, and very sad song. Though, feel old now that it is twenty years old. Would be a great song for one of the alcohol and drug intervention shows.

  • Do they call themselves "Stage Door" these days? It's not as catchy as Concrete Blond

  • Excellent Song.

  • Amazing song!!!, shame about the Ramones hair-do.

  • The lead guitar player looks disturbingly like Tiny Tim.

  • funny back in the 90's i didnt care to much about the grunge scene but loved the women vocalist groups concrete blonde,4 non blondes, veruca salt, letters to cleo and other absolutely fantastic groups wish we had them now !!!

  • Marc Moreland, of Wall of Voodoo.

  • Don't worry they still jam this song and all their songs, Napolitano's voice has only improved with age, they still tour, i just saw them a few months ago it could have been 1990 or 2010, still a great band.

  • I love this song so much even though it makes me cry every time I hear it. It's one of the best love ballads of all time.

  • story.man take's a drink.....the drink take's the man.beautiful lady with a great range of vocal's.but a very deep and personal song for her.wrote it after her hubby died of alcholism. wish i could remember their name's.help, forgot name's!

  • It's difficult to find artists with one positive comment after another. But this is one of the few that deserve it.

I love "The Beast" wish they had made an actual video

  • then I'm getting old too

  • Send this song to a suffering addict you care about

  • This song holds special meaning for me. It is all about my late husband. I can finally listen to it without crying ,eleven years later.

  • omgggshh i love this song i know how to play it on my guitarrr!(: and imm only 12 hahah woww my mother taught me well!

  • This song is ..........THE SHIT!! Her voice is hauntingly beautiful....It gives me shivers!!! Kat Von D got a portrait tattoo of her.......She must really like her too, eh?? I think she really liked the song "Mexico Moon" (?)...considering shes a recovering alcoholic, you'd think THIS song would mean more to her.....

  • This song is ..........THE SHIT!! Her voice is hauntingly beautiful....It gives me shivers!!!

  • I don't get angry anymore, since the Judge ordered me to take those Anger-Management classes....But I still yell at my wife....

  • Sorry about your loss.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. My daughter and I loved it, too. And I also lost her. You don't get over it, don't you? You just learn to live with the loss.

  • @Herbuliss I love this song also, My sympathies.

  • @Herbuliss So sorry for your lose.

  • There are rumors that she dated Joey Ramone and this song is about him. Once again, rumors, but it would be cool if it truned out to be true.

  • i love her crimped hair this song rocks my socks right off lmao lol XOX :|D

  • She's got the most awesome Fu**king voice!!

  • While the video shows drinking, it could be about anyone with an addiction. Booze, drugs, etc. Love this song..

  • great classic rock song

  • drinking long term changes the brain and the brain screams for more alcohol and it is no longer a moral issue but the people around the alkie thinkthey can control the behavior with anger and sympathy but really its a chemical imbalance and shouldbe treated in hospital with medicine and nutrition and then relearn to take care of oneself and value oneself not to poison oneself anymore the person needs to give up and call rehab

  • ..unless in FEAR!...The Family!...Her Love is So Excellent!...Save a Friend!..so cool thank you Concrete Blonde as the bride queen supreme Heaven!

  • Blah, blah, blah. Alcohol is the cause and solution to life problems.

  • this song is about the guy in wall of voodoo who died of alcoholism (awaiting liver transplant) so I guess that is the solution that you think is IT

  • I was just quoting Homer Simpson. I was out drinking last night with some friends and that song came on at the bar. So I wanted to hear it again when I got home, so I was a little drunk when I wrote that. I really like her voice in this song,

  • Zildjian cymbals in this video....THE best

  • she kinda looks like michael jackson in this vid

  • i tell people about this song and they dont know it, they listen to it and say they love it. wish there was more stuff like it nowadays. beautiful music with meaningful lyrics. miss the days!

  • i love this song! to bad we dont see much of them theese days. still great song.

  • OMG I LOVE this song!

  • that freakin guitar solo is perfect for this song!

  • My God this is PERFECT!!!!

I've fought (and thank God) won my battle with alcoholism and this vid drives it all home with a vengance!

  • Right on you won. I am barely trying. Just don't see an end to this madness. Don't know where to begin....

  • tell you what. my b-f died 2-27-07 from a long relationship with vodka. age 49 and we all loved him somuch. Some have "the gene" you gotta check yourself into rehab and get on medicine pronto to save your liver man. People love you and don't want you to be in pain.

  • My wife & I have a cat named Zoey who we sing this to...well at least part of the song, not all of it...Great song...20 years ago I asked a girl what her favorite song was and she said "Joey"...I said it must suck because I had never heard of it...Well now for the last 15 years I've loved the song...Go figure...Thanks for the post...

  • I dig it.

  • Johnette looks amazing in this vid!♥

  • Great song with the great Paul Thompson on drums! Love it!

  • I've never listened to a song more perfect than this that I feel I can really relate to.

  • One of the most haunting, beautiful songs I've ever heard. 20 years later and it's still fresh and has meaning.

  • Take a fucking drink man!

  • High School 1990. Couldn't stop listening to this album.

  • awesome guitar solo

  • i get goosebumps everytyme i hear dis song

  • Me too. I've always loved this song. It brings back a ton of memories.

  • ii no rite??

  • I think I am getting old.. I don't hear music like this any more and I miss it. That voice of hers smoulders with emotion and to me that makes her one of the sexiest women out there... This song will never age IMO.

  • @grantwelton74 yessir............i'm 42. there is no more music that has a solid meaning. what happened to Boston singing about girls and partying. Uggh..........i'm bald

  • this song reminds me of my brother cory he has schyzophrenia and he is a drug addict he has tried to commit suicide 10 times but he always gets saved before he dies i love him so much and he is the only person in my family that is not a selfish worthless fuck even if thats what he thinks he is

  • 10 times he has tried to commit suicide? not very successful even with that, it's no wonder he feels so worthless...most people "get it" the first time around, God must really have something special planned for him...go, tell him that now...

  • @luvmyjohnnydepp Your brothers just looking for attention....if he was serious he would be dead.

  • IRONIC isnt it. See he is VERY sensitive person. 10 times he tried suicide. Hes a good person. Better than the happy selfish ignorant pricks who go to church. If your too sensitive you can FEEL everything my friend. Just to let you know. A thought of DEATH, Cancer, War, TIME, MEaning, etc, etc feel more alive to people who r sensitive. they can FEEL and i mean FEEEEEELL the thoughts. Super empathy. insensitive people r selfish fucks if u search in detail. plain smiling happy selfish ignorant fuks!

  • I met her this tour- I SO admired her, but she was a raving f'ng drunk bitch @ me- nevertheless, the soundcheck was INCREDIBLE-

  • James Mankey fuckin' a man

  • piss off man... life short get a grip!!!!

  • This song makes me think of my Kerry...why couldn't it work out? I can make it better this time, Kerry...oh my God I miss her every day it's insane.

  • peacegurl i amm soooooooooooooooooooooooooo sorry. i know exactly how you feel! i lost my brother joey to suicide and it's a terrible feeling!

  • You poor bastard. I have never experienced family suicide.

I'm 59, kids and Grandkids, and I hope the fuck it never happens.

I grieve for you and the tormented soul.

    I truly grieve.

  • this is a true rock classic

  • That comment gave me chills= true love indeed.................this song is timeless

  • one of my favorite artists, Johnette Napolitano

  • Her voice breaks me up.

    She was the best.

  • She still is. "Was" makes it sound like she died. She's just solo these days. Great voice indeed.

  • This song is very sad for me....I lost my boyfriend, Joey, in a car accident when this song came out. My daughter will never know her dad cuz she was born after he died. This was back in 1990. Love you Joey and still very much miss you!!
