Hi, I watched this video and I picked up the rope and 6 months later I can say my skipping technique is at an intermediate level if not better. Thanks for making it look easy
What if you never jumped rope but have a jump rope don't know how to use it?How do you start?Because my problem is that I have heavy feet.I don't know on what I am doing wrong? What can I do to improve it.
Thanks Denny! I started off skipping by learning from this video! a few months ago I was skipping one foot girly jumps! Now I am at a level where I teach other people to skip! Great video!
my legs get stuck in between the ropes.after every single time i jump :( help please...btw great videos, they have helped me a lot since i train boxing :D
much respect, here i thought skipping was for girls, i cant even do the girly jump for less then 3 mins, i will continue to skip. ty danny for changing my aspect on skipping
i have problems skipping.im 18 and im learning mma.-.- each time my egs get stuck in between the ropes.after every single time i jump -.-..help needed :( any tips?
hey ive got a few problems with my skipping, i'm 13 and a amateur boxer but cant seem to get that boxing skip i can boxing skip with the rope going slowly but when i try to speed it up it seems that i need to move my feet faster and i always catch the rope with my feet any tips?
this is one of the most user friendly posts on you tube, i can skip now, i first saw this 9 months ago ,im no master, but enough to be effective in the gym between sets for 3 min bursts , good for keeping up the heart rate thanks Denny ,
Amazing video, I've been doing MMA training for a few months and we always start classes with a skip and i can't seem to get it, but after watching this vid my skipping has improved a bit and i enjoy it a lot more. Thank you :D
excellent choice of the music and the captions were so uplifting.. thank you i really needed this, i am about a month into owning a Nike rope and using it on an off and this is what fueled me to keep at it.. god bless.... check my boot camp video on my page if you find a moment.. - take care
Came across this Vid after me and my son having a skipping face off....he won obviously! but now am gonna get back onto skipping again...Thanks for posting this Vid....Bless
I can do quite a lot of these, but the thing is, that I can't hold my "repetition"... I just go out of the rhythm, and then I hit the rope with my leg... And that happens quite often... It's kind of strange to see everyone else doing it with no problems, and me doing it with a lot of stops... I can run faster than any one else tho, I think that is still a better achievement :)
brilliant video, I'll definitely try these routines. When ever I jump rope, I start to feel a pain in my thumbs. What kind of grip should I have on the handles?
Awesome video Danny, I've been trying to get the basic jog, but i keep hoping on each foot twice instead of the normal jogging on the spot technique. Do you have any tips or ideas that could help this?
@Dennythetrainer yea i will consider that ... i do so good but as soon as i mess up once i start messing up over and over and over to the point of frustration
@Dennythetrainer i have boxing for quite a while but i never seem to get the jump rope. i feel like i am doing fine and i even watch my form in the mirror but it always gets caught on my shoe ... what do you think i am doing wrong
@MrLazyhollow Could be a few things. Try swinging your rope from your wrists in small circles and lift your feet up a bit more. Probably best sending me a video of you at work and I could critique for you.
i've taught a few people to skip by getting them to split a rope in two. then practise swinging the ropes in each hand while jumping in time to the "click...click...click" of the ropes on the floor
@Dennythetrainer coach , could u help me on my diet , i live in india so i mostly eat rice , and could u suggest tips on improving stamina , im getting a treadmill soon i cant jog outside cause its worse than the forest here , will be joinning a boxing gym in few months so i wanna be ready

I'm able to keep it up for around 2 mins at a time now, which is great considering I could only do 5 skips at a time before. I find it's a lot easier if you have some music going on too.
hey denny nice song by the way...I'm obese and I'm trying skipping from last 15 days girly 100 and alternate knees 100 ,but my legs below knee hurt like hell at night...is it normal? and another question is can I follow only skipping as an excercise to lose weight or do some other cardio and gym excercises.
I used to skip quite badly, but after watching some of your vids, picking up some simple but key techniques and sticking at it, I can now skip really comfortably; consistently, burst, tricks, and changing between them all at will!
Your videos are very helpful for my training.I am a beginner at muay thai+jiu-sutsu training.Your moves are very inspiring, just like a real fighters moves.I wish i would train with you,but i am far away from Australia.Thank you so much.I'm on watch for your all instructions on the web.
Great vid--Thanks--Oh and love the music--I just started and it is kinda hard --I skip rope like a girl...cause I am a girl.....but I will keep practicing :)
hi there ! ... ive been skipping for a few weeks now aint doing to bad :-0 just wondering what rope do you use and what sort would you recomend ? im using a heavy duty rope at the mo but struggle to do doubles :-(
This is so impressive. I just bought a jump rope and practising in the gym, nice cool room, in front of the mirror. Wow, it's hard. I can manage about 10 of the "girly jumps" before I get caught up and have to start again, but I know I'll get better with practice, and this is a cool exercise technique that looks good and is effective. And I can take it anywhere, notwithstanding low ceiling :) Thanks, this is really inspirational :)
a lot of people watch youtube at night, with kids sleeping, this video would be so much cooler to me if it was silent, then I could visually focus on your movements. Our minds are spoiled by the idea that there has to be sound events all the time. Maybe you could upload a version without sound and see how it goes? You might get a lot of hits on that, too. Thanks for hearing my idea and for your video.
hey fellow athlete/trainer that was a great video, helped with my skipping routine! but i do have a question, i usually wear a pair of running shoes and skip. but i tend to have some ache or pain in my ankles now and then..those boxer shoes ur wearing, it does keep ur legs rigid and comfortable dont they? cause i have resorted in wearing ankle support and skipping whenever it aches.
Jumping on Concrete is not advised. Wood is better or even on a mat. On concrete can cause shin splints and tight calf muscles. Its much the same as running on roads compared to running on dirt or grass. Too much of running on roads can cause stress on your joints. Make sure you have a good pair of training shoes.
Is jumping on dirt like jumping on wood? Cuz iv'e been jumping on concrete and my feet and ankles have been really hurting and i think it's cause the concrete. Please reply!
@Dennythetrainer Ok so I just tried it first time. Took me a few mins to even do 1. I can do up to around 10 now without the rope getting caught but im sweating all over now. One problem I can already see I have is when im bouncing my feet I am bringing them too high. Also i think I need to get myself a mat as I was doing it on the back garden porch - concrete. I hear thats a no no.
I watched this and it motivated me to learn to skip.. 2 weeks later i can do all on here.. My tip is to Master whats called the girly jump . Once you get this then the others follow.. The Foo Fighters song is perfect rythmn to skip to. Best skipping video I have seen on here.. Stick with it and it will come.. I sucked at it the first week.. But it falls in to place..:)
@onefineday485 I can keep it up for a while now, and yesterday at the gym I managed to build it up into quite a speed.... im getting there. Although I got a few stares from the other guys at the gym, like they had never seen someone skipping before. I wanted to ask though, yesterday I done it for around 35 mins... my right knee is slightly sore today, not sure if I should be worried about it? I was doing it on a rubberised gym floor.
@MrDampkring At first my calves and knee were sore but it passed. When you get a good rythmn happening there is less stress on your body. You will find that with your breathing too.. It becomes relaxed..Rubberised floor is perfect. Yeah I get similiar looks from the guys at the gym:).. But they all would like to do it and the girls love to see you do it.. Double unders and cross overs come quick when you get the others. All the best.
@Dennythetrainer I have been at it for over 6 months, and I still tend to trip. It's frustrating because I don't understand why: how do you not trip? Plus I have a hard time alternating feet, so I ususally do the 2 foot skip. What do I need to do to blast out of this rut and get into some serious skipping?
I am overweight and have started cycling and running but inflammation of the achilles is hampering my progress. I notice that you tend to land more on the ball of your foot rather than the heel. Do you think that skipping would help me or does it put high stress on the achilles also?
@AnEclecticMusicFan To add to what Denny said, I would also suggest rowing, elliptical trainer and high intensity training they''re all good for weight loss with minimum impact on your legs. Possibly over time you will be able to run pain free depending on the extent of the injury and your age but all in all take tender care of your achilles for now they take ages to heal.
@rasibra Thanks for taking the time to consider my problem rasibra and for your suggestions. I have embarked on weight-loss through controlled dieting and reduced running, instead opting for swimming. Hopefully my achilles will strengthen enough through this winter to allow me to enjoy running again in the spring.
This is by far my favorite instructional video. I've been trying and trying to get better but it really is as you said...creating neuro pathways! Apparently mine were completely disconnected ;)
I dont comment on youtube much,But i watch this video 5 days a week to help me to motivate my jump ropeing skills,Thank u for posting this video danny the trainer
haven't jumped rope since i used to kickbox, at 170 lbs. now i'm 240 (weight lifting) and tried it again. the pain!! my ankles gave up on me. where can i get a good rope, the plastic one i have keeps tangling.
wow. i like the khan khan. cool man. will add these to my work outs. hahas. never knew there are more styles to rope skipping. just one question, what is the ideal length rope.? coz i got it smacking to my feet at times. is it too short, or need more practices.? =) cheers.
Hey this video helped a bunch. But i was wondering how exactly it is you do the base jump, like what specefic pattern you follow with your feet. thank you
I seriously dun get base jump. In fact I culd do only girly jump. For now. Anyway, this is the ONLY professional skipping video around. Do appreciate this guys!
Thanks for an excellent video (amongst many others) I'm just getting back into using a rope, not done any skipping since my novice boxing days in the army and this vid has been a big help- I'd forgotten how bloody tiring it is though!
I'm starting to feel the benefits now though, it's well worth the perseverence.
I start boxing training 8 months ago (I'am 27) and did not attach much importance to skipping. But seeing as you move (from other videos) and the various methods of skipping, I realized that it's all connected. And, actually: why I did not pay this super-fine exercise proper attention?!
Today started jumping! It is difficult to smile when you do not receive a normal jumping! ))
I will develop neural connections! Will try become a pro..
i watched this vid 2 weeks ago, then i went out and bought a rope. 2 weeks to the day im able to skip rope and its an amazing feeling to pull off some of the steps/jumps. my ultimate goal is to do the can can properly ! i wont stop until i can do it :)
I remember my first time trying to jump rope I strained my calves too much and I could not walk right for a month...now it comes natural, that is how my coach told me to jump rope awesome vid man.
El video es muy constructivo, muchas gracias porque haces entender muchas cosas en los 5.30 min que dura el video, pero queria hacerte una pregunta... Ya veremos si la entiendes en mi ingles malo :D BAD ENGLISH : Its bad to jump the rope every day ? ( 5 day for week) I say this, alternate the jumps. If this is bad, how days for week can i jump, without lesion ( my objective is rating my stamina) Thank you much and sorry for my very bad english!
@jokerscarl - boxers training on the ropes everyday they go to the gym. Its important for footwork, speed and agility. You should be careful not to jump on concrete but on a mat or wooden floors..inside a ring is the best :-)
how long is it usually until someone can get relatively decent? (i know everyone is different but just an approximation). Also when im skipping i am ok but i find i trip up on my left foot whenever i mess up. Any ideas on why this might happen? im 6'2 and use a 9 ft rope.
@Dennythetrainer Ok, I got one! My left hand is a little retarded, but I guess the "Neuro Pathways" will continue to build. I'm getting better and better with the "girly jump" so far, using your techniques. I Thank You Denny the Trainer :-D
@YoBootyStinks The "girly jump" is more difficult than the initial jump he showed. Running in place is easy. I would say the hardest is double jump - it's hard on your arms because of the speed of the rope, and you really have to push to get far enough into the air to make 2 revolutions.
@YoBootyStinks "Is the running in place easier?? Hasn't been for Me :("
I'd say it's the easiest. It requires better coordination, but it's not anywhere near as exhausting as the so-called "girlie jump". Coordination is less important than a workout for me, and that's why I consider running in place much easier.
very good video i learned how to skip in a week thanks to this video

I am 5.2" woman and my brother was 6' 2". He taught me so much about fitness and skipping was the thing that really kept our weight down.
When done properly can look so easy and be so effective.

@MrDampkring
But it falls in to place..:)
onefineday485 7 months ago
@onefineday485 I can keep it up for a while now, and yesterday at the gym I managed to build it up into quite a speed.... im getting there. Although I got a few stares from the other guys at the gym, like they had never seen someone skipping before. I wanted to ask though, yesterday I done it for around 35 mins... my right knee is slightly sore today, not sure if I should be worried about it? I was doing it on a rubberised gym floor.
MrDampkring 7 months ago
@MrDampkring At first my calves and knee were sore but it passed. When you get a good rythmn happening there is less stress on your body. You will find that with your breathing too.. It becomes relaxed..Rubberised floor is perfect. Yeah I get similiar looks from the guys at the gym:).. But they all would like to do it and the girls love to see you do it.. Double unders and cross overs come quick when you get the others. All the best.

@kale11111 It is bad ass and after a while you will find the others easier...keep going
Dennythetrainer 8 months ago
@Dennythetrainer I have been at it for over 6 months, and I still tend to trip. It's frustrating because I don't understand why: how do you not trip? Plus I have a hard time alternating feet, so I ususally do the 2 foot skip. What do I need to do to blast out of this rut and get into some serious skipping?
rmsolympic1 6 months ago
Great instrcuional vids - congrats.
I am overweight and have started cycling and running but inflammation of the achilles is hampering my progress. I notice that you tend to land more on the ball of your foot rather than the heel. Do you think that skipping would help me or does it put high stress on the achilles also?
AnEclecticMusicFan 8 months ago
@AnEclecticMusicFan I wouldn't recommend running or skipping if you have sore achilles. Take it easy and go for squats and leg exercises.
Dennythetrainer 8 months ago
@Dennythetrainer thanks for that Denny
AnEclecticMusicFan 8 months ago
@AnEclecticMusicFan To add to what Denny said, I would also suggest rowing, elliptical trainer and high intensity training they''re all good for weight loss with minimum impact on your legs. Possibly over time you will be able to run pain free depending on the extent of the injury and your age but all in all take tender care of your achilles for now they take ages to heal.
rasibra 6 months ago
@rasibra Thanks for taking the time to consider my problem rasibra and for your suggestions. I have embarked on weight-loss through controlled dieting and reduced running, instead opting for swimming. Hopefully my achilles will strengthen enough through this winter to allow me to enjoy running again in the spring.

All the best. :)

Hi, Denny, you're channel just brilliant!
Thank you!

El video es muy constructivo, muchas gracias porque haces entender muchas cosas en los 5.30 min que dura el video, pero queria hacerte una pregunta... Ya veremos si la entiendes en mi ingles malo :D BAD ENGLISH : Its bad to jump the rope every day ? ( 5 day for week) I say this, alternate the jumps. If this is bad, how days for week can i jump, without lesion ( my objective is rating my stamina) Thank you much and sorry for my very bad english!
jokerscarl 9 months ago
@jokerscarl - boxers training on the ropes everyday they go to the gym. Its important for footwork, speed and agility. You should be careful not to jump on concrete but on a mat or wooden floors..inside a ring is the best :-)
Dennythetrainer 9 months ago
how long is it usually until someone can get relatively decent? (i know everyone is different but just an approximation). Also when im skipping i am ok but i find i trip up on my left foot whenever i mess up. Any ideas on why this might happen? im 6'2 and use a 9 ft rope.
whocares191919 9 months ago
@whocares191919 - yes, because your left foot is lazy. Pick your feet up and focus on your body doing what you tell it too.
Dennythetrainer 9 months ago
Man, you've got a lot of stamina!!

do you need a heavy rope/string/cable?
do you need a "speed rope" with bearings?
can u recommend a brand/model of jump/speed rope?

@Dennythetrainer Ok, I got one! My left hand is a little retarded, but I guess the "Neuro Pathways" will continue to build. I'm getting better and better with the "girly jump" so far, using your techniques. I Thank You Denny the Trainer :-D
YoBootyStinks 9 months ago
@YoBootyStinks The "girly jump" is more difficult than the initial jump he showed. Running in place is easy. I would say the hardest is double jump - it's hard on your arms because of the speed of the rope, and you really have to push to get far enough into the air to make 2 revolutions.
fuzzywzhe 9 months ago
@fuzzywzhe Is the running in place easier?? Hasn't been for Me :(
I can do the criss-crossover (I forgot the name) with ease now, tho. I will eventually master the running in place too.
YoBootyStinks 9 months ago
@YoBootyStinks "Is the running in place easier?? Hasn't been for Me :("
I'd say it's the easiest. It requires better coordination, but it's not anywhere near as exhausting as the so-called "girlie jump". Coordination is less important than a workout for me, and that's why I consider running in place much easier.
