  • Safety dickheads unite!

  • That dog knew what was coming.... Hahahaha

  • Most of those radial engines have an issue with oil pooling up in the lower cylinders so the ground crews would turn the prop by hand on aircraft to clear them out before starting up. I know that this is from a tank but it would have the same issues when starting up after sitting for a while. Cool engine, Good luck with it.

  • It's cool how the thing blows smoke rings when it's cranking. Fun messing with any engines! Cool video!

  • smart dog.....

  • awesome smoke ring out of the right pipe at 0:53!

  • That a air plan engine right?

  • @redneckbryon The engine came out of a Tank. It's not an airplane engine.

  • @Batgold That is an aircraft engine. The same engine is used in one of the two New Standard D-25s at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.

  • dogs like.. im outta here

  • Dog- "I'm a dog!"

Also, stop hating on the guy, quit being such liberal pussies. It's his life, engine, and space. I think it's hella cool.

  • yeah sir the engine needs to be re timed. thats why you get all that fuel oil in the exhaust and that is very dangerous.

  • Use castor oil like they used in the old days. Gave the pilots excellent regularity to be behind the exhaust of one of those.

  • From the comments I now realize how many pussies there are in this country too afraid to even light a fart.

  • The poor dog is fully aware of what is to be expected. No wonder he made a swift exit. Wise dog, unlike the owner.

  • i think dog is hurt

  • Even the dog knows it not a good idea he got the hell out of there

  • Old pilots with radial experience will tell you that the last thing you do before you go switches off and crank, is take out the plugs from the bottom most cylinder(s), and crank it around a few times. Clean and replace the plug, then do switches on, and crank.

If it just sprays oil around, and doesn't hydraulic lock and smash the piston, or pop the while lower cylinder off the studs or something, you got lucky.

  • loool Smoke Ring at 0:50 :D right exaust !

  • " Breath deep, the gathering gloom, watch lights fade from every room..."

  • Cool... But I have to tell you: You're a Freak!!! Lol

  • ...soon to be daily driver

  • The dog was the smartest one there.

  • ....guess we won't be mowing the yard today

  • That's some big ass smoke rings coming outta that exhaust too...

  • @dieselheart001 and perfect ones at that too

  • Belongs on a WW2 fighter not a lawn mower.

  • dogs like fuck this then did u see that perfect smoke ring at 0:53

  • The dogs like "I'm going to the store for some sigs but ur ganna have plenty of smoke in 10' " lol

  • Put a prop on it or run it very fast down the road. That is an air cooled engine. Won't last long without some airflow.

  • Dont you need the prop on it as a flywheel?

  • dog - of fuck that im outta here! :O

  • smoke rings brah

  • that was sweet! dont pay any attention to the little nancy school girls, they are scared of electric weed eaters, so you can imagine what a real motor does to them

  • Neat toy!

  • Gotta' love it.. first starts can be fun and have unexpcted results.. Great down to earth comment about the oil everywhere !

  • Classic ! and smoke rings lol.

  • 2 things I love here, I love how the motor was blowin' smoke rings. And I love the first thing he said after it fired was jesus christ fuckin' oil everywhere. Bud I gott'a say you are awesome!,

  • forget the haters, thats a cool toy for any garage!

  • hmm, I bet it would work much better if you put the propellor back on and started it by hand.....

  • Yeah, love the dog. "I'm outta here."

  • lol the dog was like "your starting that thing? fuck this...cya" XD

  • your trailer has a flat !!! 0_0

  • Wow haters are every where....it's his eng his house and his garage...if it falls over or burns his house down just pray he saves the vid to post on here later....

  • forget these people talking about safety... its always a concern, but come on; people have to grow a pair these days!

wonderful motor! wish i had the space for something half the size of it.

  • boy that was smart

  • exhaust valve seal broken or leaking?

  • are you useing a cordless drill to start this

  • The dog knew better

  • 54 - 56 the smoke ring!!! lolz awsomwe

ha theres oil everywhere......lolz thats well funny

  • id suggest putting a load on the engine (prop) to carry the cylanders to the next power stroke, im sure u knew this tho

  • I think the man knew what he was doing.

    Nice work.

  • Dog is the chief engineer! He knew what was coming and beat it!

  • hahaah,lol,

    What was this ?

    Natural wonder??

    Animals more intelligent than humans???

That dog was so awesome cool!!

    -Just a joke man-

-Very nice engine - take care-

BTW tell your dog he just got 5* from Germany

  • for god's sake! D375 is right, the people just don't care about their own safety,

  • Oh, don't worry, I had plenty of safety precautions in place. You don't see the fire extinguisher next to me, if hadn't shut the mag off immediately, the engine would have died right away because I had tiny amount of gas in the carb. This was just a quick test to see if i'd even run, all other times I ran it outside.

  • @VREDFOX nothing wrong with what he's done here, I hear a vent fan in the background too.

hell my 4.2L Jag makes more CO and I've never ran it out of the shop.

  • Oh, man, are you brain dead or something?? Trying to start and run a huge radial in a tiny, low roof garage?? Lucky it didn't fire up, you'd be gassed in seconds, you wouldn't find your way out for smoke, and one decent backfire would burn your garage to the ground!! And the comments about handcranking to pump the oil out of the bottom combustion chambers are right on!

  • I never did try to start it in the garage after this one attempt, I have other videos where I started it outside. I had all the lower plugs out before I test fired it, the quart of oil that sprayed out all over my head, face and arms was pooled up in a low point within the exhaust pipe, which I didn't know about.

  • @D375 I just love how people bitch about safety like it's the end of the world if someone checks out an old engine in a garage for a few moments.

  • lol! I love how there is always a flat tire on the engine stand!

  • Dog- "here we go again!"

  • ha blowin O's

  • lmao @ the dog

  • Does that dog know that guy or what? See Ya! LOL.

  • the poor pup was like"shit i gotta get out of here. its going to get loud" even though it didnt start it knew what was comming up.

  • Don't cry just because u got oil on ur skin. Just continue until it's running... Great engine btw.

  • With these engines its vital to turn them by hand a few times if stood for a long time as oil drains down past the rings into the lower cylinders,if you try and crank it electrically after being stood for a long time you can hydraulically lock the lower cylinders and bend a conrod or two.If you cant turn it by hand atleast remove the plugs on the lower cylinders to let any excess oil drain out.I assume you knew this.

  • hey how do you properly oil a radial anyways, its not like you can stick an oil pan under it like in a inline motor????

  • @1991kissmyass The dont have a sump as such and use whats called a dry sump system, you have a seperate oil tank and oil is pumped from this tank by an engine driven oil pump, some engines you can prelube the engine before starting by either a handcrank pump or electric pump to get the system up to pressure before starting, the oil is pumped around the engine by the pump through a network of pipes and galleries, the oil drains down to a pickup point and is pumped back to the tank (scavenge pump)

  • LOL

  • Smoke and oil everywhere. What did he expect cranking that big radial in his garage, rose petals and angels singing on high?

    LOL!

  • the dog has the right idea....

  • i would not attempt to fire up sucht a large cube engine in a clean shop like that i would of wheeled it out since its on wheels anyway

  • he needs a club prop or i will not run properly, and he could seriously damage the engine

  • LOL funny

  • The problem with radial engines is called hydraulic lock, where when the engine stops running, engine oil collects on the bottom pistons. He has to hand crank it to make sure there's no hydraulic oil cause if he starts it he can damage the engine. Now, for oil to be every where, looks like he blue some gaskets.

  • As soon as the old dog heard the starter, he was smart enough to get out of the shop!

  • I saw that. At least he knows wutz up.

  • is he really gonna put that in a car? lol or truck i suppose cause it looks to have a front axle lol. Sweet tho haha :)

  • haha seriously!

  • NICE SMOKE RING!~ I would had pushed it out side" SMOKEY"

  • eyy das ist der metalysator von werner ^^

  • well thats what radials do they leak oil always! Its said when a radial doesnt use up oil somethin is wrong

  • Dog got the right idea!

  • surprisingly quiet

  • nice smoke ring at 0:51 :)

  • IT WAS SMOKIN POT :P

  • LOL the man says Oil everywhere!

    Good work!

    Congratulations

  • Good work Batgold, there arent enough radials out there, its nice to see one going.

  • Ooooo! That wascally wadial marking it's territory. LOL!

  • Oil collects in the bottom cylinders on a radial engine. He should have spun the crank around about 720 degrees before turning on the mags to get the oil out.

  • Radials don't have oil control rings, the excess goes out the stacks. They consume oil as a normal function of their operation because of that.

  • The dog did'nt seem too keen but I sure was. Thanks you for showing.

  • What a REDIAL Engine?? :)

  • whell, what did you expect????

  • time to divert those tailpipe blasts!

before the missus has a fit...

  • Aêêê, burrão !

  • well that things a pain in the ass to start

  • apparently you havent seen a chevy then. hahaha

  • Jesus Christ FUCK oil everywhere.........

    HAHAHAHAHAHA zu geil :D

  • Jesus Christ of St. Radial...never heard of him.

  • Jesus Christ of St. Radial...never hear of him.

  • The dogs reaction is the best lol

  • perfect O-ring at 0:54

  • Haha, well observed!

Todays jet engines are cool but they can't even do this! :P

  • LOL dog knew better to leave

  • nice smoke rings

  • As my secretary used to say: Don't be callin on the Lord -- he don't know who you are!

That said, I'll bet the Lord, like me keeps this video in his 'favorites'.

  • Guy...you need a club/dummy propellor. Yes radials belch lots of oil everywhere. I remember running the 985 and 1340 at A&P school and tuning that beast. You'll be better served with some fans and a good ventilation system....or that room will fill up with smoke rather quickly.

  • +1 on the club, remember radial engines don't leak oil............They mark there territory!

  • Nice. 0:49 to 0:56 there are some near perfect smoke rings!

  • The dog's heard it all before and wants none of it! haha

  • scary...you can hear the compression leaking through the cylinders....they are BIG

  • Interesting; very rarely do we get to see the early stages of getting one of these beasts up and running! Thanks for the vid!

  • Smoke rings! Ha! That dog was gettin' the hell outta there!

  • I am surprised it started with no flywheel inertia. Lots of cylinders I suppose.

  • damn that was so cool! radial engines are beautiful, at the first cranks, the exhaust in the right threw out circles of smoke, EPIC!!!!

    REALLY GREAT JOB MAN!!!

  • WOW ! crank it up again ,That was cool!
