It's about preserving the innocence of the child - being the youngest one, instead of subjecting him to violence, he was gently pushed aside to allow the "big kids" to finish the job. It happened to TK in season one all the time, but the writers back then knew how to balance each character out. There isn't any balance in this season, which is why it's SO weak.

Although the main reason is due to the fact that the main viewers are young boys, and they wouldn't want to see a girl be a leader, even though she could definitely be a much better leader then the hotheaded boys we get season after season, constantly leading the team into danger. For you second question Rika in the Tamer saga was in the beginning the strongest and tried to lead but in the end she was not a leader due to her characteristics. A leader needs to have the characteristics of one and they end up to be the guy who happens to have goggles. Agree or not reply if you don't to me.

Season one and two were not as childish as this, it had latent themes hidden under all the cuteness and cool battle scenes, just like a lot of kids movies. So far I haven't seen any underlying themes here, this season is more like Power Rangers, which was made purely for kids entertainment.
