You shouldn't sink it, it was made to capture because it's so powerful for one little ship. I never saw any other clan (on single player) go after it, not even to attack it. But it's not like you could conquer the game with just ships, but it is fun to use this ship to go in battle with. I remember going after this ship with a full army of ships and came out with two left. Sad thing is I ended up sinking it instead of capturing it.
I used the Nanban Trade Ships to capture a Black Ship. The only way to capture it effectively is by using ships of equal calibre. Bows and arrows can't rival to gunpowder at all.
Nearly impossible to capture it in battle without nanban trade ships. Long range cannons will tear you up, and should you get close enough, there'll be a never ending volley of matchlocks raining down, obliterating your whole crew. I had two nanban trade ships attacking it, and all I had to do was stay outside it's range (In front of it) and make it route so then I could bring my men in close to use their matchlocks. He just sat there since he was defending.
I cought it just yesterday ... and I have to say, it's just beasty :O you have to let the PC fight the fight! so you have a chance, to captuer it ... I lost about 20 ships with my allies^^ but it was worth it
i hope they will make a dlc featuring some European powers because that would be pretty cool and it pisses off al those faggy wapanese gaytard douchebags.
What I really hope is that the game's developers will make a DLC unlocking the European Traders as a faction.
Play the game not to seize land but to negotiate trade rights and convince the clans to build Nanban trade ports.
Plus with early access to technology like guns and gunships you could re-enact historical actions like forcing trade on them through the threat of superior military technology, like when Commodore Perry demanded entry to Japan and ended the Edo period.
Problem is that Portugese (historical) shoudn't be anywhere of the Japan area because that was (as efect of Treaty of Trodesilas from 1494 and of course until they were kicked out from Japan) Spanish influence area.
And when comes to class this is Spanish Heavy Carrack and NOT Black Pearl because B.P was (i think) Heavy Galeon, oh and on the side note in "Shogun" movie there was an episode regarding Black Ship and that ship belongs to Spain not Portugal.
i have gottin the black ship before the only way to get it is to use fire arrows and boarding the black ship starts at the bottem of japan and moves up but there is only one black ship but there is a trading ship that is like the black ship but i cant remember the name
i have gottin the black ship before the only way to get it is to use fire arrows and boarding the black ship starts at the bottem of japan and moves up
In matter of fact Red Cross as crest was used by Spanish fleet (as symbol of catolic faith) not Portugals...
And once again please read about Trodesilas Treaty from 1494 which "made" Japan as SPANISH area of Influence until Tokugawa didn't kick them permanently from the country.
@Qusza2007 Take your own advice and read the wiki page? Tordesillas divides the Eastern and Western Hemispheres with the latter being Spanish... and Japan remains in the Portuguese section even after the Treaty of Saragossa.
Also the Black Ship (the historical vessel) was Portuguese.
Riiight... because wiki is sooo acurate source of information ._.
Truth is that Portugal area of influence in far east asia ended on Philiphines when Japan as the rest of Pacyfic island lands in SPANISH hands.
And yes, i admit my mistake when comes to "Black ship" origin but in matter of fact both Spanish and portugal used red cross crest on thier sails and that's why i thougth that this is Spanish ship.
@Qusza2007 do you r stupid the portuguese cross is a real cross that have white squeres in the middle the spainish one have the lower part of the cross more longer . thats a portuguese ship
Btw u need to swarm it and borad w/ur highest maned ship and use stuff like war cry to take it over use small ships to draw it's fire move in while it's reloading and attack from the front or back not the sides XD easy
It's the black ship. It makes a ton of money for the europeans by exploiting japan's need of chinese silk. It'll be loaded with japanese gold and silver.
I captured the ship with only 3 medium bunes in my first encounter. The first one got torn to shreds but then one of them managed to "dock" ( can't think of the right word ) and won the take-over battle. I was like "that's it?". I only noticed how terribly overpowered the ship is when I first used it myself. I have no idea why it was so easy to take over.
@Divvygogo They basically have cannons which is basically superior in every aspect to range then any other japanese ship with that kind of armament (bow ships),but basically are not really suited in melee combat considering european traders carry little armour and armament as they travel long distances and such items were more likely to rust.
I managed to capture the Black Ship when it was on a trading dock. I almost lost the battle. The ship had just 10 cannons that worked and about 200 men on it. I had to fight my balls off to get it. And now im the master of the sea.
@angryhippy It is actually a Caravel ( it has only 24 guns) ...because this takes place in 1580 or so , and another reason it cant be a galleon since galeons have from 36 to 40 guns on board. And the first rates, with more than 50 guns just showed up on the seas only in the begining of the 17 century. The first rates that you are talking about with 100 cannons, nicknamed Manovar derivated from "Man of war", took sail in the end of the 17 century. Thats why I like NTW better :)

Unless you have beat the black ship on very hard with a hard clan then your accomplishment is meaningless. I have captured it on very hard with the tokogawa clan. My vid will be posting soon come watch real skill boy.

@Henners1991 ummm no there are 3 hard clans and the tokogawa is the hardest since its no military bonuses just diplo basically. Forcing u to think about intrigue not just straight attack. Look at my vid i just posted to be amazed at me capturing it on very hard. Plenty of people think they are good for getting it on normal but that aint shit to me.
@gaelenfade Sure, the GAME's hard but when it comes to capturing a ship then really the only modifier should be whether or not you're Mori. But I suppose what you're saying is that it's more difficult to amass the fleet in the first place? ;)
Took me literally 2 hours to capture this ship, lots of frustration, but finally got it. (Heavy bune swarm + Fire bomb bunes + a crap ton of bow bunes for distraction) Reason it took so long is because sometimes it would 1. Flee away after the battle, 2. Destroy the hell out of all my ships, 3. Get sunk instead of captured.
@Henners1991 Yeah, it's a beast. With it you're able to pretty much dominate the waters which helps you greatly on land, you can inflict some economical punishment to all your enemies by pirating their trade routes which leads to them having a smaller army (and you getting that income, which leads you to have a bigger army). Keep in mind, that ship has an upkeep of 1111 gold per turn, so make sure you have a nice income before trying to capture it.
Use the Shogun ship the Namu Manaru or whatever it was, just weaken the black ship so it has less than 100 men and then board it with your 200 men ship. If you wanna destroy it about 10 bow ships with fire arrows can do it
German ships were better at that time ... they were invisible.

Why aren't the europeans in custom battle?
Or a mod/dlc what makes the europeans avaible in both campain and custum battle.
That would just be SO NICE!

No offense to the person who made this video, but didn´t he knew about history of the 16th century?
If he did, he would knew that he should never face a portuguese ship of the 16th century. At the seas, we were badasses at that time.
crocve 8 months ago
@crocve First 5 seconds of the video answers that question ;)
Henners1991 8 months ago 4
@crocve This is very true. However, the black ship is such a massively tempting target to try and take, it's worth trying to capture.

you could actually sink it with that fleet without too much trouble...so long as you have fire arrows.
of course, you don't want to sink the Black Ship, you want to capture it.
