how long did it take you to bond like that with your glider? i adopted mine after she was a year with someone else... shes not as bad i can pet her but she bites when i try holding her..
@XScarletWarriorX Get 2! Really! When I bought my Saff, while I HAD done my research, I was, in short, being selfish. Now, she is so used to being a lone glider, and having human companions, that she will not accept a glider friend - but I believe that she would be happier if she could. Humans are good company, but nothing can compare to the friendship and love of another sugar glider. 2 is honestly no more work than 1, and they're a real joy to watch together. Good on you for asking around. :)
@Dexien Ok Thanks so much! i just see tons of videos with only one glider. i figured it would be happy if you just let it chill in your pocket all day, but i guess i was wrong. ty :)
@XScarletWarriorX i would suggest you get one, because it needs attention almost all day if you have a sibling that is close to your age i suggest getting two
I think gliders are somewhat like dogs, they can eat off of a special diet and this may affect them in a positive way, or they can live off of pellet food/dry food.
I dont really think sugar gliders are as high maintenance as some people make them out to be, but they sure aren't just goldfish!
People really should consider whether they can properly care for one before buying.
And to the comment a few down about pocket pets- I bet they call em sugar bears. Thats an awful "glider mill" name for them.
You absolutely have to feed it a special diet. I give mine pellet along with the BML mix and veggies and fruits. There are several diets to chose from.
An occasional mealworm and yoggie treat here and there is fine.
But my girl took longer than my boy to bond to me.
Sugar Gliders take alot of patience, care, and love, people.
As the vet of the president of the society of sugar gliders said special diets for sugar gliders are outdated diets and they can eat pellet food fine with a sprinkling of calcium I think. It's in his video on how to feed your sugar glider. Pocketpets I believe they are called provides all this in a two years supply that costs only 88$ dollars. For one sugar glider it should only cost less than $10 a month.
Wow, I wish our gliders were that hand tame!!! We've been at it for about 4 months now and are only just getting to the point where we can scoop em' up with our bare hands, but nothing like this!
He looks like a glider we used to have-- she got sick and my grandma and I couldn't leave the house cuse we were watching my handicapt brother & mom was at work. I told mom to pick some stuff up but she didn't & by the time she got home the stores were closed. Gabby was dead the next morning and mom wouldn't let me hold her cuse she thought it was MY fault Gabby died. you're a bitch mom, RIP Gabby
The wodent wheel, perfect with the sand paper to wear down nails, but was noisy at night, bouncing and banging in the cage as it went mach 5. She only barked if she wanted something, but very noisy.
The female I had hated being out, she's run in my shirt looking for the pouch, if I wasn't wearing it, she'd get in my shirt pocket, push everything out of it once she got in. She was 5 years old when I gave her to my ex in the divorce, only would get out at night in the cage, even if the door was open she stayed in it.
They're SO cute. Too much work for me at this point in my life, being an early 20-something, and already owning a cat and a dog. When I'm old and lonely and the kids have left, totally getting one! lol.
this is scary if u read this this far u will die in 10 days if u dont send to any 15 videos in 2 hours good luck hope u dont die !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well if you think it was stupid why did you remember my comment that means you did it and now you feel like a loser that you did it so the jokes on you ha..ha! madafuka!

maybe because you didnt take care for it well i hate people buying excotic animals and not doing their research then the animal dies so think of what you did to the animal sorry for being mean but do your reseach fist before buying exotic nocturnal animals if your just gonna kill it thank you
at least your sugar glider lets you hold it mine attacks you because she hates being confined =( it kinda sucks but i still can kinda play with her a little =)
this means you must bond with your sugar glider. Use honey on your finger and give it to them or put your dirty shirt over their cage at night to make them bond to you. Then try to pick her up.
They don't growl, he was never growling. Unless you were asking if its normal for any sugar glider. They making noises called "crabbing" when disturbed or upset. He wasn't making any.
hey. i need help! how did you get your sugar glider to like you???
i have hand fed mine and everything but hes just....not warming up to me. when i put my hand in the cage he kind of..sniffs my hand then tries biting it..what do i do?
Try offering him treats away from the cage. Put him in a pouch and carry him with you around when hes sleeping. Put cloth, or anything you wear near the cage to have him get used to your scent.
check to see if they are legal in your state. they are legal in florida. i know that. greays can go from 150 to 5000 and pretty much a white one will go from 300 to 7000 but at the cheapest with all the care and food and stuff it costs 800
They're probably illegal in the same places as hedgehogs, I would guess.
Arizona, California, Georgia, Vermont, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Maine, and (I think) New York City. Some places will allow them with a permit, but PA is considered one of the worst states for exotics (bad enough that you should drive AROUND the state instead of through it if you have an exotic with you).
READ THIS IF YOU ARE AN OWNER OF A SUGAR GLIDER. Many cages for sugar gliders are made of EBC plastic, zinc, and paint that ccan easily flake off from the cage bars or any other part of the cage. If these parts get into the Sugar Glider's mouth, and swallowed it can be poisonous and cause a Sugar Gliders death. Please be careful when ordering cages for these animal
i never heard of a surgar glider before intill i watched a youtube video wit one in it i thought it was a flying squirrl but now i want one where are they from?
We adore our suggies too. A word of caution to glider newbies: Do your homework. Read EVERYTHING. Talk to glider owners if poss. Gliders are not domesticated. They're semi-tamed little "minibeasts," and their proper care requires a life-changing commitment: live bugs; fresh fruits/veggies; supplements; calcium vs. phosphorus; exotic vets; nail trimmings; poops and pee everywhere; the musk odor; etc. But it's worth it when they snuggle up in your bathrobe pocket, safe and oblivious to the world.
Yeah, a glider is really no more expensive in the long run than a dog or cat. Rats don't live long enough, aren't as soft, are way illegal where I live, and I guarantee they're less likely to get adorable and curious reactions at least from people around here. Keep at it .. there's some good articles on bonding at sugargliderinfo, just google it and it should come up. That said some of them never will; they're kinda like cats. :/ Gl tho.
Don't buy one just cause they're cute looking .. check them out first (sugar - gliders . net or something). They piss all over the place, have needle-like claws and can be very independant. Trust me, don't judge a book by it's cover. They can also be very affectionate and calm, but make sure you're prepared to have your clothing smelling of glider urine and red scratch marks all over your body. :P
@Dexien have you seen the videos by Dr. David Brust? He does a great piece on potty training. Not sure how well it works, I just started with my year old glider (whom I've had a week and have found that he doesn't really appreciate being held on his back the way Dr. Brust does it). i too had a fancy rat once the only problem is they gte like tumors and stuff real easy thats what mine died of and its a shame cause you get attatched and next thing you know its ogne with sugar gliders yea your paying a good amount of money but theyre like a dog or cat theyre with ya for like 15 years and theyre loayalty is incredible especially if you train them right and not treat them like a pet and leave it in a corner but treat it like a kid and take good care of them they can be awesome
yea but that 150 is way worth it for these little guys lol as is the 10 for the fancy rats ebcause there intelligent as anything but i mean in my personal opinion id pick a sugar glider over a fancy rat any day just because suagr gliders are just flatout amazing
That's sweet. I have a 3 1/2 yr old female, but she won't usually sit still and stretched out like that. She prefers to be in a ball with her head hidden, or in my shirt.
I really wish mine would sit still like that. I bond with them yet they still run around constantly. I almost never get to hold them steady, they just run up my arm to my shoulder.
yeha im gonna try to get a sugar glider for christmas. they seem really cool. at first i tought you had a stranglehold on her then i saw that u were petting her and it wasnt a tight grip at all. =P
lol mine kicked my ass but after a week he wasnt scared and never rlly crabbed. lol i miss laying with him and watchen him jumb from my bed to my curtans
Depends on the glider! Some bond within a few weeks, others take months. Try googling for Glider Central, they've got loads of great info there on how to bond with your suggie. :)
NEW GLIDER OWNERS AND/OR POTENTIAL BUYERS sugar gliders will not be that friendly the first day or probable the first 5 months it takes time for them to bond and get used to a new owner
well i am buying it from a breeder so i will get it 8weeks out of the pouch, hopefully it will be more tame because of this. What time do they wake up?
8 weeks oop is decent .. it's not to do with being tame, it just means they get as much nutrients and such as possible from their parents. :) Anything below 8 weeks imo isn't particularly fair on the glider, so your choice of breeder sounds good. :) As for wake up times .. mine wakes up around 7-9pm, but friends of mine who have gliders find they can wake up anything between 6pm-2am. (try searching Glider Central on google, there's loads of good info there) =)
Sometimes! They're kinda like cats.. if they want a snug and some attention, they'll let you know; but god forbid if YOU want a cuddle and they don't. :) They all have different personalities though, so I hope you get a cuddly one! =)

you have to prepare yourself to take care of it constantly..
between 5-15 mins a day just to prepare it's dinner..a complete requirent that you cannot get around by getting a premade food..
also they are nocturnal, meaning you CAN NOT give them the 1 hour a day required attention during the day, you MUST wait till they wake up at night..
so consider this before you buy one..
they LIVE for 15 years and DIE when they dont get attention in a less than a week

I really wish mine would sit still like that. I bond with them yet they still run around constantly. I almost never get to hold them steady, they just run up my arm to my shoulder.

Aww, bonding with your suggie! :D I have a 6 year old one named Rocky. That isnt forceful, heck even mine does that. (He has very sharp claws!)

Try sugar-gliders . com, and look at the newsletters. There was a recent one on dealing with biting. Has lots of good suggestions. :)

how long do they take to bond to you like completely...?
musiccwg 4 years ago
Depends on the glider! Some bond within a few weeks, others take months. Try googling for Glider Central, they've got loads of great info there on how to bond with your suggie. :)

NEW GLIDER OWNERS AND/OR POTENTIAL BUYERS sugar gliders will not be that friendly the first day or probable the first 5 months it takes time for them to bond and get used to a new owner

well i am buying it from a breeder so i will get it 8weeks out of the pouch, hopefully it will be more tame because of this. What time do they wake up?
musiccwg 4 years ago
8 weeks oop is decent .. it's not to do with being tame, it just means they get as much nutrients and such as possible from their parents. :) Anything below 8 weeks imo isn't particularly fair on the glider, so your choice of breeder sounds good. :) As for wake up times .. mine wakes up around 7-9pm, but friends of mine who have gliders find they can wake up anything between 6pm-2am. (try searching Glider Central on google, there's loads of good info there) =)

do they really like to cuddle? I cannot wait I get mine in two months!
musiccwg 4 years ago
Sometimes! They're kinda like cats.. if they want a snug and some attention, they'll let you know; but god forbid if YOU want a cuddle and they don't. :) They all have different personalities though, so I hope you get a cuddly one! =)

Mine wake up around 9PM, but I can wake them up as early as 8 and they are fine, just a bit sluggish at first.
