The Germans hardly ever defended their bombers over england. Had they, I am sure it would have gone quite differently. They would send in flights of 50-100 and come back with only 7-8 because they did not send fighter escorts hardly ever, or not enough.
As the war was coming to an end and it was Bomben auf Deutschland my father, a British POW in Deutschland for over three years and his friends, would sing this song to their guards. They got away with it because the guards knew they would face Allied justice in a few weeks if they committed any atrocities against the POW's
Britain with the assistance of Canada, Australia,New Zealand, South Africa and other Empire and allied Pilots dropped more bombs on Germany then the USA did. 1945 was the years the USA overtook the Empire the bombing effort in terms of numbers dropped. Canada produced about 1k four engined bombers to Britain's approx 18k four engined bombers plus 20k two engined engined bombers. Russia fought a huge land war & left the bombing to the west
