ughhhh bro you didnt get that humanity for the message you made you got it for killing one of the enemys before the boss battle they have a random chance of giving humanity thats why it looked black when you took the guys soul because he gave you humanity this is also a farming technique you could use like this so he can see it

I heard you say you couldn't kick with the scimitar, this is incorrect. I am pretty sure you can kick with any melee weapon. To kick flick the left control stick toward the enemy and as the stick hits the stop press R1. You press R1 right after you move the control stick. Practice this since its pretty useful for anyone with a shield.

@Northernlion you should kill the merchant in the undead burg because you will get the Uchigatana which upgraded is a good trade for the drake sword since the Uchigatana is as or faster than the scimitar and good for the wanderer since its a great dexterity weapon

the humanity you got wasn't from your message. when you are in a area where you have not beaten the boss you have a random chance to get humanity from enemys (up to 10 humanity)

The upgrades are 10% of the weapons base damage. So a +1 would be 10% more powerful, +2 20%, ect. to the (eventual) max of +15 for a base weapon.

Also, you can gain humanity from killing a large amount of monsters in an area before killing the boss, up to 10 humanity per area. Humanity also increases your item discovery chance and curse resistance.

I don't know why you insist on fighting all these high-level people, when you can just holster your weapon and walk past them. They're undead, so they won't attack you unless you're agressive towards them. Just kidding. :P

By the way, if you end your sprint before you empty your stamina bar, you won't have to wait until it fully refills before sprinting again. However, if you end up draining your stamina with sprinting, simply rolling while it's refilling will reset the sprint timer.

an easy way to kill the boar is to stand on that platform where those archers were with that spear guy then throw a alluring skull at the ground near the platform your standing on the boar will get close then you can jump down and perform a plunge attack to weaken it or kill it

Couple of quick things thought you should know,when you mentioned that seemingly random humanity gain, actually you gain a humanity after killing a set number of enemies(not sure if anyone knows the exact numbers though). Also that longsword is likely doing less damage because it synergizes less effectively with your current stats,

You should buy a 100% physical shield from the blacksmith or the merchant. The chip damage from the wooden shield doesn't seem like much, but it adds up.

How does the save system work? Do you save when you go to a bonfire? Can you have multiple saves of different characters?

@KingCheesyPants It auto-saves after every action. I could quit in the middle of a fight and when I reload I'll be in the middle (or at the beginning of) the same fight. You can have multiple saves but only one save slot per character.

I love how so many newbies scream about getting the Drake Sword in EVERY LP of Dark Souls they can find.

The Drake Sword, kids, is bad for you and it builds bad habits. People use it way too late into the game, it's a pain to upgrade, and other weapons vastly outclass it even at the point you can get it. Raw power will only get you so far. Maybe if you suck and have to brute force every situation, but if you've got any skill at all, you should use, say, a Morningstar+5 or something.

You can NOT backstab while guarding. It's why you keep going regular hits. Let go of L1 once in a while.

1.You can trick him to run injto the fires.

2.You can get a fall crit from the high ground.

3.On the same bridge you get alluring skulls to throw into the fires.

4.You can skip if you are a noob.
