Of course the original is better but this is a pretty good cover and nice to see Schenker paying tribute to G.Moore and P.Lynott, both of them gone to soon.
Gary and Michael were great friends and admired each other immensely but I can't say Michael, great player as he is, gets anywhere near Moore's originally solo in terms of quality.
@road2ruins I agree with you, is like Gary Rest in Peace & bless his soul for all the amazing music he left for us would cover Lost Horizon, to me this version is more of paying respect to Gary's original, but in Schenker's style, nobody can top Gary's masterpiece!
@AXEFLYERFV: Don't get me wrong. It is still a good song, but not because of the "good" cover, but because its a superb song in the original version.
The cover is not that good to my mind and the drummer sounds really bad for my liking. Who ever produced this failed when he mixed the drum sound, but not only that, the drummer does not get into the "feeling" of this song.
Thanks Axe never heard Michael do this, and they just happen to be my 2 favorite guitarists of all, this is awesome Great Post Thanks again ! Love It ! Love to see these Two amazing talents duel it out on Stage, that would make my life complete, and i would go quietly to my resting place !
@GregMikoyan As I mentioned in another comment,Covers are no tconcider or expected to out do the original, like Gary trying to do INTO THE AREA from Schenker!
@AXEFLYERFV Yea I agree, btu who needs a cover version of a song if you can have the original? Fair enogh play it live, that´s okay, but why record it? If then I think it should be an interpetation in your own style and different to the original.
@GregMikoyan well,I think there must be a reason why covers are made ,released & obviously the owner of the song is aware of it & has given permission to have it done, maybe even feel honored!
,there are people out there that either love them or hate them!
but we all have our own opinions & tastes,I realize that!
Michaels music taste is fantastic. I look forward to him playing something from Rory. I know he will someday. He shows such appreciation and value to so many .
I remember MSG from the early 80s and Gary Barden was an essential part of the MSG sound. Although there may be better technical singers he encapsulated what was good about MSG and the band without him was never the same or as good. I'm delighted they are now playing together again. It brings back wonderful memories.
Suck drummer or not that's cool. Michael giving Gary props! That's awesome!

This version isn't nearly as powerful or well performed as the original, and I'm not sorry to say.

@BinYalla covers are not meant to be more powerful then the originals they are more like tributes!
is like Moore doing a cover of Schenker's Lost Horizon,I would probably post the same comment as yours, thnx for your input!

Gary Moore is one of the greatest guitarists ever. His technique and sound are impossible to match. He even turned down Ozzy

@lerxt42 lets not forgt led clones! a bizarre mix that turned out to be.... gary moore bluesing and ozzy being gothic. i didn't like it.

Good cover but I prefer the original-Moore and Lynott are a hard act to follow!

Sorry but Barden is so over rated. I can think of at least 20 better singers off the top of my head in 2 seconds!
1207king 3 years ago
Absolutely... he's just nostalgic hype from those first albums. Graham Bonnet, Robin McCauley are infinitely better singers than Barden.

Barden fits with him more in my opinion
