In addition, large portion of the firm's earnings comes from advisory services, here they really help the companies. About securities side of the business...well they are front runners, but who is not? they are no worse than MS, or BOFAML, or JP.

@sahseeker : they were not paid as advisors first of all. they are not fiduciary in CDO market, whereas they are when they advise for M&A, ECM or DCM transactions. they dont have an obligation to disclose the generic strategy of the firm. Every firm like Goldman had to keep certain amount of CDS on their books to protect itself from losses which they would incur if the security was on the book. the only thing that you should blame them for is for not selling the protection after the sold Abacus
