  • he was more of a noodler

    lol

  • i thought there albums were great. gemuis musicians

  • Cynic starts a US headline tour in July 2010...I can't wait!

  • @aguahoja

Seeing them in Ft. Lauderdale on August 13th, going to be amazing. :]]]

  • paul is a cool dude and a really talented musician

  • this dude is so cool!

  • It's a matter of taste...both albums are masterful...but I prefer Traced in Air. I think it's a logical evolution from Focus.

  • Focus is a much more thrash album, where as traced in air is a lot more composed, constructed and mello, i look at it like a ying yang concept xD

  • @s2LoveLust A thrash album? Yeah, because Textures totally reminds me of thrash metal. Traced In Air had better vocals and for the most part a better sound, but Focus had more variety including thrashy songs like Uroboric Forms, but also mellow songs like, as said before, Textures.

  • your right both albums are very good , but for me focus is better ^^

  • its kinda funny to me, i know im going to get bashed for this. i actually listened to most of focus just on youtube and bought traced in air before i listened to all of focus. i love both equally maybe im just too indecisive. both of them are so beautiful

  • Songs sounding like songs? That's totally ridiculous man.

  • it goes on his head

  • Boxofcookies +27 vs. 94mrwhite -3. Funniest comment ever!

    Best, Sandemose

  • I also saw them live recently and was blown away. Pure talent!

  • I just saw these guys at House of Blues in Hollywood and they were amazing. By far one of the most talented bands on the scene today. I haven't enjoyed a band's performance as much as I did Cynic's in a long time. Their new music is great....it fuckin grabs you. The sold out crowd at HOB was totally into it.

  • Yeah, gotta say, as much as Focus was brilliant and revolutionary, I think Traced in Air is nothing short of perfect.

  • I agree. I really enjoyed it. I love how it basically chronicles how they all have grown as musicians and as people in the 15 years since Focus. They would've never done something as gorgeous as "King of Those Who Know" back in '93.

  • yeah it was a bit of a disappointment.

  • I wouldn't call it a disappointment. It's not Focus, nor is it really even the same style. That said, if you look at Traced in Air as something that Focus grew into, like a child growing into an adult, you can fully say that it's another masterpiece. If you're dead set on Focus's sound, you won't see the greatness of it.

  • I think it's a great album, but not as great as a lot of people say it is. There's no use in arguing personal opinion either.

  • That was a great opinion. Seriously hehe. You can exactly see what Cynic did there with the new one (latest).

  • Cynic's next album,

If they choose to make one,

Will go back to reflect elements from focus, i think.

    I hope.

It would be cool to see them go back to that heavier side they have.

  • The only thing that was disappointing about Traced In Air was that it was short.

  • The funny thing is, that Focus is only by 2 minutes longer than Traced in Air.

  • But it did have a lot of lyrical insight and universal understandings.

  • @deadpisser88 lol its only 2 minutes shorter than Focus

  • @themetalreview180 My perspective is fucked. Feels ALOT shorter. Lack of intricate parts, I suppose.

  • @deadpisser88 yeah, but when Nunc Stans ends, you can press "play" on Nunc Fluens

  • @deadpisser88 Same thing I always think....Too fucking bad, before you can imagine, it's already over

  • cool to be homest but it was 100% my favourite album of 08

  • traced in air rules

  • At ease dkky! I know he's a hell of a musician and a hell of a nice dude. I'm just not into the voice synthesizer sound; I still have old Cynic demos on cassettes that are almost 2 decades old now. I'm also used to seeing half of Cynic perform live with Death/Chuck(RIP) numerous times, back when Paul had hair down to his ass. So yes, I have a hard time taking in some of the new tunes. To each his own, richard.

P.S. I did buy Uboric Forms when it came out years ago, so there!

  • I used to watch Cynic in Hallandale, FL, (back in late 80's & early 90's) at the Treehouse, when they were brutal. They'd jam with Malevolent Creation all the time. Paul is still cool, although I don't care for their newer genre of music .

  • Newer genre of music.. You mean now they play intelligent and complex music. I know it's not for everybody though.. You need to be open minded which is certainly not the case for you...

  • paul rules! and rules and rules and.........

  • Thank God, He Exists.

  • This guy is so cool, and he's an awesome songwriter!

  • Nice, thanks for uploading.
