If i may, monicauk30 is correct, in that the rumba is essentially, the dance of love. It really should be fluid (with a good mix of degrees of speed). For example, the couple at the beginning of the rumba performed at least 3-4 lines in the start, two of which they could have held longer for impact. It's not just about routine, it's adapting to the song regardless of which song (rumba in this case) it is. Generally I think most dancers now focus too much on speed, not enough on character.

Rumba is a slow dance that requires a lot of dance skills. Rumba is about rumba walks, the right hip actions, love, seduction and all about the ultimate connection with your dance partner. It's the slowest dance in the Latin American discipline. Don't know where you're taking your dancing classes, if you're taking any in the first place.

While I agree that it is indeed slow and its nature is to fill out every beat of the music, you can't forget that you have to create speed in rumba to stand out and create contrast. Actually, the fact that it's the slowest dance gives you the possibility to be extremely fast.

During the time mrtyles is speaking of the girl is already late from her action and loses balance in the middle, so it's no surprise it looks like throwing around each other because her partner has to pull her by force.

First of all, the samba is not at all a dance in with sexyness is the charactarising part of the dance, the samba is a carnaval dance in witch the couples dance as if they just met and have the time of their lives dancing. second, in dancing is who you are on the dancefloor a whole different 'you' as in normal life.
